Reactions to anything that happened after the Seat of Sacrifice are coming! I wanted to keep the video around the 1 hour mark and couldn't fit the rest in. Expect them soon! I am starting Endwalker this Friday (the 16th) as well as watching the Cinematic tomorrow (the 13th) if you fancied joining us on the adventure.
This game is incredibly fulfilling in ways that are hard to describe, but possibly the apex example of how Video games can be art, as this game moves the soul. It brings us laughter, and tears, and so much more. It allows us to reflect on ourselves and our own lives, in contrast to the Warrior of Light and their struggles.
The one trick FFXIV pulled off that I haven't really seen an MMO pull off before is they turned your Generic Adventurer, your custom character, into someone with a past. Someone who had been important, had family and friends and loved ones, who lost it all, even the memory of it. And yet stayed true to who they were. And they made it completely compatible with whatever headcanon backstories we invented for our characters. And they gave us this backstory in a way that made us care about it. WANT it. I don't think I've met anyone yet who's said "This is lame. I don't want to be Azem!" Everyone I know has been reaching for every single crumb of that backstory we can get. It roots our Warrior of Light in the world. They are still our character, our avatar... but they also belong to THIS world. They didn't just pop into existence at the edge of a forest, they have history and weight and an ancient duty. And that connects US to that world too. I don't know if all of that was the intent, but it really is a potent way to get us invested.
In like fashion, they made a feature we've been utilizing since 2.0 - Duty Finder - canon, as an ability (also able to be) invoked by the officeholder of Azem, to summon allies to their side when needed to strike down a threatening foe.
Technically it’s our past life. But it seems the soul always has similar dispositions through the ages. So it gives us the freedom to be our own character yet having a connection to the past and the characters past and present, and sometimes future.
It is technically our past self, but in practice it almost feels like a long lost relative like a parent or a sibling. That dynamic makes us FIEND for any information we can get on Azem's life.
47:38 A masterpiece in visual storytelling, and "Show, don't tell." The snap, and the wave. You know *exactly* who that was, even though not a single word is said.
I came across an ALT that looked like Haurchefant after playing HW and we became friends. I tweeted about them gifting me something by saying "thanks to my old new friend"! It was many many months before I hit Shadowbringers and I realised that term was pretty significant in the FFXIV community.
Fun fact about The Seat of Sacrifice fight: If a DPS tries to limit break when he's not casting something, he will shout "Clad in prayer, I am invincible!" and invuln himself.
Ohh yes, THE patch, don't worry we're all broken down here. BTW, did you notice The Exarch crystallized smiling, cuz you know... A smile better suits a hero
It's a crime that the Lyna scene before Seat of Sacrifice was not voiced. My only complaint about 5.3. Amazing patch. Actually Lyna's writing is so consistent with her voice delivery that the first time I watched someone replay the cutscene I was surprised it wasn't voiced because I remembered it as voiced but I must have just read the lines in her voice since it's so distinct.
There's a moment that gets overshadowed, but when Elidibus reacts to the incantation, he asks you a question Thordan asked you after defeating him: "What are you?"
One did it in fear, the other in awe. Elidibus is even more saddening as he *should* recognize the aether of Azem but he can't even remember who he is....and as an ancient he near worshipped Azem.
"I did not come to feel, chat." Dude, all you're gonna do is feel in this game 😆 I've seen these cutscenes so many times, having played through it a few times myself and from watching other reactions, and I'm still sobbing. So many feels!
It's really something, isn't it? For the longest time, Elidibus came across as just another cookie-cutter generic villain....but then in the span of just two patches, they turn him into someone that you legitimately feel bad for and you mourn him when he finally dies....though his end is bittersweet, as his soul finally gets to reunite with those of his fellows in the afterlife and he finally finds peace.
Because he is cookie-cutter vilain if you look at him. He has no motivation to fight us, no goal apart from "Fight the WoL" Why? Cuz you a hero, me a bad guy, now lets fight. And then it slowly shows you he is this way, because he no longer remembers, he is broken, torn apart, haunted by what he no longer remembers. He seeks fight for..... no reason... because he forgot.
I wouldn't say cookie cutter. He certainly wasn't groundbreaking but there was a mystrious side to him. On the fact that he was master and savior of Unukalhai. His concern with balance was an interesting one and while we also eventually learn its for the sake of the rejoinings he at times seems to actmagainst the other ascians. Even just his white robes set him appart from the others. Unlike Lahabrea, now HE was cookie cutter. Even if in his kackling madness he was a bit entertaining
Remember the role of the Warrior of Darkness according to legend? To deliver peace to all souls, regardless of disposition. Whether by death or comforting the dying, they are meant to deliver souls to their final rest.
The dialogue with Temulin is really great, and if you haven't revisited her yet she gets new lines after this fight. Though one of my favorite details is that the part of Lakeland you drop into at the start of the expansion is "Forest of the Lost Shepherd"
All the imported warriors of light will be stuck at the entrance with Graha's slow on them til Elidibus pulls the boss and they get the option "teleport to the sealed area?" :)
Shadowbringers takes you on a massive emotional journey before lighting a cigarette and giving you a hug. The post-game drags you on another one while you think you’re recovering from the first. Then also gives you a hug Shadowbringers is one of my favorite pieces of gaming media out there. It’s just… an experience
This was the first trial I ended up with just after my dog passing almost 2 years back. I'll never forget that run. I grabbed a beer, sat down still sobbing, and ended up with this as my trial roulette. I dedicated the run to my dog (silly as that may sound) And was then informed almost the entire party had never done it before. So I was crying, shot-calling, and doing my DRG rotation all at the same time. A beautiful moment, to be sure.
I've come across your play throughs just a smidge ahead (I've just completed EW but have yet to do patch quests). It has been a utter delight to watch your reactions and emotions, how they have mirrored or expanded upon my own journey through Shadowbringers and other expansions. So thanks. Looking forward to seeing you traverse the end, traveller.
13:40 Remember what nabriales did to Moen when they first met? He blasted her with "something" it is an attack, if you remember he mentions that "your aether is strangely dense" I can only assume that Elidibus wanted to knock him out, but could not. 40:39 I thought you'd remember. This is the second time that you been asked "what are you?" Hint: the archbishop asks you that after his defeat when he see the WoL turning into a shadow.
I've been watching your VODs and you commented on liking a certain character whose name begins with U's robe in one of them. That's the Augmented Crystarium Robe of Healing dyed Adamantoise Green. It can still be purchased with Poetics from the Shadowbringers vendors or sometimes retainers bring it back in quick ventures.
Every time I play through or watch someone play through 5.3, I usually start crying during the dungeon (all our friends we made are helping us! q.q) and then it just doesn't stop lol. I'm so glad it resonated with you and you enjoyed it as much as you did! Hopefully, I can break the shackles of the vod squad and make it to one of your streams this week and see you start end walking!
I've seen quite a few comments asking about the Eden raids. The vods can be found on Endy's twitch channel at: www.twitch.tv/endyd20?sr=a Thank you for pouring so much love and care into these videos, Endy! Please excuse me while I mourn my Final Fantasy husband. 🥲
If you're a crafter/gatherer, you can do collectible quests for Kai-shirr, and doing so will eventually unlock airship travel between Eulmore and the Crystarium. Yes, I think it's a little backwards as well that THAT'S how you unlock direct travel between the two points, but that's how they did it.
friend asked me why cry for the exarch when graha is still alive bitch i cried when the 11th doctor die knowing fully well he's going to regenerated to the 12th doctor
47:10 ish - don’t click. Face roll your keyboard ;) (It allows you to press a lot of things at once. You can do the same with a controller - i tend to just run my thumbs across the face pads. Either way, clicking is the most likely method to get yourself RSI and also fail due to the difficulty. Make sure you’re not typing in chat when you do though. That happens and it’s very funny.)
We know G'raha Tia will come back... We have his soul and memories, and he will come with us. Yet we cannot help at that moment cry and wish "Let us see him again... Bring him back to us... Let us keep our promise..."
Liked and subbed, there's nothing better as an FFXIV vet than to vicariously relive the storyline through others! XD -- Quick edit, spoiler free, I promise: Having "Walked to the End" as it were, this stuff makes a lot more sense now!
"The rains have ceased and we are graced by another beautiful day... but you are not here to see it" Gets me every. single. time. And I'm a cynical jaded old curmudgeon.
It's really cool to see people who let themselves get swept up in the feelings that the story is trying to pull from you. Not to mention the lore and speculation! So glad I found your channel!
It just gets so much better. But man, 5.3 was such a pivotal time in my own life, not to mention Soken and the team at Square, as well as the millions of players going through the hell that was the pandemic. It was so special, and I'm thrilled that it remains so! Elidibus remains one of my favorite antagonists, and even more so because of... well, you'll get there! :D
5.3 is my favorite as well. The ending is just so wholesome. I cried my eyes our (and still do) on a lot of occasions. Plus i screamed when G'raha joined the scions
Hurts even more when you realize his model is small because he was a "child" or the approximation of one. They even remark on your size being childlike in the sunken city.
he WAS a child...he was the youngest member of the Convocation. Every member treated him like a favored younger brother and he was just happy to be counted among their numbers.
Just found your channel, nice video. You are way more perceptive than me, most of the callbacks in the writing just fly over my head the first time around. Curious for you to reach Endwalker, it's going to be crazy.
I'm lucky in that I've played nothing but the game for a year, so my memory of past events is a lot more recent compared to people who played it over the years :D we're finally starting Endwalker on Friday, can't wait!
I absolutely LOVE your excitement and love for this game 🙂 Trust me. Endwalker is great. And i personaly cannot wait for 7.0 to come. I myself am so dedicated to this game. Its nice to others enjoy it as much if not more
"The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day...But you are not here to see it" This line makes me burst into tears every time I hear it
So fun fact: the spell G'raha uses on all the spectral warriors in the tower, Break, was a healer role ability in earlier patches of FFXIV, that would cause Heavy status (slow down movement speed) for a single enemy. Him turning it into an AOE like that just makes the overly humble catboi even more badass, IMO.
The The thing I love most about watching blind runs in amazing content most, is that it's sort of vicariously reliving it for the first time. Because you can never have two firsts yourself.
Nothing in this game for me will ever compare to patch day 5.3 All those extra months of waiting due to covid suddenly hitting after 5.2, hoping they can even still get the patch out, hoping that the world doesn't grind to a halt and then some Patch day hits, and it's one of the best goddamn blind experiences I'll ever have in a video game, if not the best Still my favorite extreme trial, to boot, farmed every single weapon and still use a couple as glams to this day
It was cut from the video but pay attention to what the elzen man said on the balcony at eulmore during the starshower and his mannerisms. You will see it again in endwalker and blow your mind that what he said in the moment and meaning behind it.
Strangely, the Eulmore airship dock only unlocks if you do some crafting/gathering side content. Specifically, you have to get Kai-Shirr's custom delivery rank to max.
i love how this expansion really made you feel for the ones who you saw as the evil bad guys since the beginning. What they did was bad but part of you understands. They want their friends, their world and so on back as any of us would.
48:00 Now my charms are all o'erthrown, And what strength I have's mine own, Which is most faint, as is my breath That quavers here at brink of death. 'Twas e'er my fate to wager all For that which wrought my brothers' fall, And thus the aether beckons me To depths of black eternity, To dream of things long lost and gone, And futures which might yet be won─ Though not by me, lest you mistake, For others wait, the stage to take, And while their worth is far from sure, I bid the falling curtain─pause. Let "encore" be my final word, Their epilogue to death preferred.
Oh you poor, sweet summer child lol You are just in the middle of a loop on this ride. I can’t wait to see your reactions to the coming content. Tighten your seatbelt and grab some numbing lubricant; things ahead are going to get rough 😂😂

Elidibus voice acting in that last scene is so incredible, it makes me tear up every time ;-;
The way his voice breaks... gets me
His voice actor just generally is very on point with dialogue, pauses, etc.
That little touch how Ryne becomes the narrator when Exarch is gone. The story never ends.
Fun fact about The Seat of Sacrifice fight: If a DPS tries to limit break when he's not casting something, he will shout "Clad in prayer, I am invincible!" and invuln himself.
Paladin's Hallowed Ground. It was hilarious for new players to go "wait what? where did my lb damage go?"

Because you can never have two firsts yourself.
it scratches that itch of sharing something you really like with someone else.
Nothing in this game for me will ever compare to patch day 5.3
All those extra months of waiting due to covid suddenly hitting after 5.2, hoping they can even still get the patch out, hoping that the world doesn't grind to a halt and then some
Patch day hits, and it's one of the best goddamn blind experiences I'll ever have in a video game, if not the best
Still my favorite extreme trial, to boot, farmed every single weapon and still use a couple as glams to this day
Mashed that thumbs up button like a 🥔
It was cut from the video but pay attention to what the elzen man said on the balcony at eulmore during the starshower and his mannerisms.
You will see it again in endwalker and blow your mind that what he said in the moment and meaning behind it.
"For yours is the fourteenth seat, the seat of Azem."
"In the end, we're nothing more than scions and sinners"
Had to watch it again. Such a great experience.
I love how this game constantly feels like it 4th wall breaks. Its not always explicit but so many lines can be related to real life.
It philosophizes.
Strangely, the Eulmore airship dock only unlocks if you do some crafting/gathering side content. Specifically, you have to get Kai-Shirr's custom delivery rank to max.
Time to revise the Endwalker predictions 😺
Congratulations on completing 5.3. *hugs*
i love how this expansion really made you feel for the ones who you saw as the evil bad guys since the beginning. What they did was bad but part of you understands. They want their friends, their world and so on back as any of us would.
13:50 Oh my sweet summer child...
This was such a good reaction! Also Hi Jesse!!!
Can I watch the reaction to the rest of 5.3 anywhere?
It’ll be live tonight!
Time to watch Endy look adorable and smiley through 5.3 (even with the emotional content)!
And 5.3 ain't even over! 😛

Now my charms are all o'erthrown,
And what strength I have's mine own,
Which is most faint, as is my breath
That quavers here at brink of death.
'Twas e'er my fate to wager all
For that which wrought my brothers' fall,
And thus the aether beckons me
To depths of black eternity,
To dream of things long lost and gone,
And futures which might yet be won─
Though not by me, lest you mistake,
For others wait, the stage to take,
And while their worth is far from sure,
I bid the falling curtain─pause.
Let "encore" be my final word,
Their epilogue to death preferred.
You are going to love Endwalker. I shall try to watch your livestreams because I love watching people go through EW for the first time.
I don't think any game ever will top patch 5.3 for me, I just don't think it's possible
best video thus far.
"Kinda glad we didn't get an Ardbert/Seto reunion, that would have broke me"
And that, children, is called foreshadowing.
The handwave that broke the community
One way or another, 5.3 gets everyone eventually. 😭
Oh you poor, sweet summer child lol You are just in the middle of a loop on this ride. I can’t wait to see your reactions to the coming content. Tighten your seatbelt and grab some numbing lubricant; things ahead are going to get rough 😂😂
