FORECAST: Winter mix will transition to all snow through mid-afternoon

Today is a Storm Track 5 Weather Alert Day. Travel is not advised today. A winter mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow will transition to all snow through mid-afternoon for the KC metro. The roads are expected to quickly become ice/snow covered during the morning hours. We will see a transition to all snow by mid-morning for Kansas City with moderate to heavy snow bands at times. In the afternoon the snow intensity will ease up leaving a total of 3” to 6” across our area. The wind will gust to over 25 MPH through the afternoon which will cause some of the snow to drift making it difficult to stay ahead of the storm in terms of clean up.
