It’s funny George Lucas didn’t want Mel Brooks modeling the hero after Han Solo so Mel decided to go with Indiana Jones. Also George told Mel he couldn’t do any merchandise for the movie for fear it’d be confused with Star Wars so that’s why Yogurt has the store inside his place. Funny thing I didn’t notice when I first watched this movie was that Dark Helmet is wearing a necktie and what the necktie looks like. Not many people catch on to the fact that the prince she’s supposed to marry is called Prince Valium and he’s always sleepy. The radar tech is Michael Winslow who played in the police academy movies and does many different sound effects with his voice. Marlene and Charlene (the twins) did promotional stuff for double mint gum back in the 80s.
In one of the earlier drafts of Star Wars, there was no Han Solo or Luke Skywalker. Just Obi-Wan Kenobi. Though the names in that draft wouldn't tell you that. That detail you only find out if you saw Akira Kurosawa's 'Hidden Fortress' (1958) which was a major inspiration for the plot and characters.
I THINK one of the actual Yoda concept arts, before the final one was chosen, did look a lot like Yogurt....wonder if Brooks got to look at some old Star Wars concept drawings whilst making this film.

The dink dinks are a jawa version of the Seven Dwarves. Yes, the ship turning Mega Maid refers to Transformers. Absolutely no idea if the suck/blow refers to anything. The end of Planet of the Apes shows a half buried Statue of Liberty in the same shape as the crashed Mega Maid components. The Diner scene with John Hurt references an Alien scene with John Hurt. There's a movie and he's the same actor in the movie called alien
All of you who recommend Spaceballs need to tell them to watch Alien and Planet of the Apes first.
26:26 He's right, you know.
wait have you been mixing up C3PO and R2D2's names this whole time?
It was too late when I realized it 😂
Nia , you might have seen Prometheus, that was a prequel? to the Alien movies from the late 1970s
YES! That's it!!!!!!
So many hilarious one-liners in this movie.
"Whatsa matter Colonel Sanders??? CHICKEN??" I saw this movie as a kid, but didn't get that joke until I grew up.
I think when I was watching I just laughed at the sound he made when he responded, but when I was editing I finally got it lol
While the little alien creature didn't have much to do with the plot it was a direct reference to the Alien movie from 1979 ( which I'm sure someone has already pointed out ) and the little creature was doing a spoof of a 1940's cartoon character that goes by the name Michigan J. Frog who sang that exact song in the cartoon. ruclips.net/video/bkjsN-J27aU/видео.html and BTW did you notice a familiar looking ship outside the space diner ? You saw it in Star Wars. Its a real blink and you miss it moment. Great reaction !!!
Coffee - the morning happy juice.
That is true, I only had instant coffee that morning, the horror 😂
You got the droids backwards dot matrix is supposed to be c3po and r2dr is the droid not appearing in this film
Coulda put some brandy in your coffee ya know!
ahhh, I may consider it
@@NiaMakiReacts i was joshing lol! I give the worst advice lol
Irish Coffee to watch a Mel Brooks space comedy, sounds 100% American.;)
11:26 All movies Mel Brooks has actually made.
I think you’re confusing Star Wars droids. C-3P0 did get a parody in this movie, it was R2-D2 that didn’t
yeah I corrected myself in the outro lol
17:01 "She's already _had_ a nose job. It was a Sweet Sixteen present."
🤔 _Sixteen?_ You got her a nose job when she turned _sixteen?_ I mean, shoot. _I_ would never do that. When you're sixteen, you're still a _kid._ If the operation is not something you'll die _without,_ you can do without it at least until you turn _eighteen._
I mean, at _that_ age, in the eyes of the law, you're an _adult,_ so if you still want a nose job, and you're _my_ daughter, sure. I'll pay for you to have a _nose_ job. But wait 'til you're eighteen. Sixteen is too young.
Thanks!
Thanks so much!!
When Mel Brooks asked George Lucas about making the movie George said he was ok with it but Lone star could not be dressed like Han Solo so Mel said ok I will dress him like Indiana Jones instead.
either way it worked out haha!

President Skroob - Brooks spelled backwards.
Nia, if you want a funny movie, try Midnight Madness (1980) i think it was secretly made by George Lucas from Star Wars
oh can you see similarities between them?
Nia, Google Joan Rivers!
That is who C3PO voice was meant to be if it wasn't indeed her for real.
The only part of this i don't like is at the wedding lone Starr does not close his eyes when he kisses vespa, that's just wierd
Spaceballs the comment!
13:52 Am I the only one who thinks this scene bears a resemblance to _The Wizard of Oz?_
I mean there are _four_ of them. One sort of looks like Tin Man. One sort of looks like Cowardly Lion. They're going to see this character with a very large, far-reaching _social_ stature whose _physical_ stature is not quite so impressive.
Is it just me seeing this resemblance?
So you don’t like a BIG HELMET?
Just worried about the fit
Hello there Nia
hey aran!
I fuckin' love John Candy(Barf). John Candy is who Chris Farley was trying super hard to be but failed at it.
😭 😭 😭
No lies detected
Nia, i think you can say ass on tv , so you don't have to bleep it?
youtube just updated some of their terms and they are even backdating prior videos...
I really hope you gave this reaction its title because you meant to... Otherwise.................. :)
😂
She don’t get it
🤷♀️
other movies to see
Alien Franchise and planet of the Apes Franchise. See both in release order not newest to oldest or time line order
other Star Wars parody things
hardware wars
robot chicken
family guy
Phineas and Ferb
Muppet Show
Muppet Babies
Fanboys
Jay and Silent Bob
Pinkey and the Brain
Tiny Toons
as well as many RUclips videos and a bunch of things that casually reference it
also other fun weddings in movies
Three Men and a Little Lady
The Graduate
Father of the Bride
So I heard Alien is scary… but I didn’t know so many other shows parodied Star Wars, that’s awesome
@@NiaMakiReacts Alien is scary or at least R rated with jump scares. Fear is subjective. It has creatures that can kill but also a hero fighting back and it and Predictor are part of the same story line.
yes many shows did parody of Star Wars either for part or all of an episode.
Muppet Show and Muppet babies fall in to the "1st trilogy era" where as Family Guy, Robot Chicken and Phineas and Ferb fall in to the "1st 6 movies era" and Lego did all 9 movies
@@NiaMakiReacts Hardware Wars is a fan short that was shown at science fiction conventions. I find it hilarious.
Loved this one as a kid, but the older I get the more cheesy it gets :D
Haha!!! It’s definitely a very silly movie
