Qatar saved me during the pandemic and got me home from Italy. Etihad has increased their one way ticket from Rome to Sydney to over $7,000, but Qatar didn't raise their prices and continued business as normal. I will always be grateful
Helps when both those airlines’ owners are very wealthy governments. Qatar Airways “brought people home” just to capitalize on the high demand for freight during COVID. I have yet to see an apology from Al Baker or Al Meer regarding the treatment of those women back in October 2020

Another great video, Dan! I booked my first Q-Suite and A380 First Class flight last month to Perth Australia and I'm already a victim of an equipment swap, and have been 'downgraded' to business class Q-Suite from first. Being that the amount of avios I used was the same for business and first, I'm not too upset from that standpoint, but I was really looking forward to the ground experience in Doha. Fortunately I'm booked on a first class 777 from HK on the way back so I'll get to try the Cathay Pacific seats in first...hopefully. I love the insta360 cameras, as I have the X4 and Go3S as well. You made great use of it in this video! Only feedback is that I believe you're using the bluetooth audio which doesn't sound great at all. I think you have the DJI Mic 2, which has internal audio which sounds much better. Love all of your videos!!
I like a bus gate and climbing the steps to the aircraft. I find it very interesting being able to see other aircraft close up and getting a good view of the actual aircraft I'll be flying in.
as long as you are young, fitt, are able to walk and climb stairs, and also interested in planes, this is cool. But if you arent interested in planes and need assistance, the world is a totally different one.
Preech dan! Let Dan cook! I am so happy someone has finally addressed this topic! Qatar is awesome but how can some routes just jump from an a320 all the way up to a 787 only for you to get a a330 in the end!
I saved all my money for a biz class Qatar and was so disappointed that it was not qsuites despite it stating so when booking and seat choosing. While service was flawless, I couldn't help feel shortchanged. Now with such high fares, will stick to pre eco on another competitor airline
Exactly! They even give excuses like "due to operational reasons." Imagine ordering a favorite dish at a restaurant but they suddenly serve you something else "due to operational reasons"
We HATE those Cathay Pacific aircraft (BO series as they’re called) The service is not compatible and you end up with a mess in the only galley we have in JC. Also the 787-9 forces 15 passengers per crew and we need to choose whose meal goes into the only 2 ovens. Either we heat the meals or bread or you make sure the other passengers eat later because we can only fit 20 meals max in the ovens. The workload for those in business is immense. More than once I haven’t sat down, drank water, ate something or even took a breather on 10+ hour flights. I love my job, but management is still in the AlBaker times with 0 clue how to proceed. Many will and Are jumping ship for Riyadh next year
Dan, I fly business class Qatar out of Miami to Doha and then on to Nairobi, Kenya several times a year. Always on the A350-1000, in Qsuite. I love it and confess to being addicted to it. On occasion, my trip home on the leg from Nairobi to Doha has been other than Qsuite. In those instances, I flew the Boeing 777-200lr. I have to say that Buisness Class in the 777-200 was immaculte, the crew was fantastic, and it was very comfortable. A positive experience all around. Why my comment? Sometimes, change is difficult. I look at it this way. I'm blessed to be able to fly a high-quality business class product as i am a revenue customer who flies and travels for fun. So i don' t let the change of equipment rent any space in my head. Have a Merry Christmas, and keep providing your valuable content.
I have only flown Qatar 4 times. Each of those times it was supposed to be QSuite but that was never to be due to "equipment changes". One flight was on a 2-2-2 configuration that was straight out of the 90's. With Emirates now upgrading their business class hard product, I think in future I will be flying with them again.
I like these kinds of videos, Dan. They're very informative and I learn a lot. I hope you and Oskar had a great time in the Maldives! I don't think Qatar takes criticism of any kind very well, though. Josh Cahill had the same issues, and they banned him from the airline because he wouldn't remove his video.🙄 You both have an excellent point. If an airline as second rate as United can do it, why can't Qatar? Oh, well, first world problems, huh? you and Oskar have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to your further adventures in 2025. Hugs!
I tried Qatar 2 years ago. It was supposed to be 4 legs (return) qsuite. Ended up with just one leg because equipment change, which was disappointing, not OK to bounce me into 2-3-2. Lounge in doha is superb. I travel between Asia and London 4-5 times a year and for me it's Emirates all the way. As long as I stick to the a380, it's just so good and so consistent, and i can use miles to shuffle forward to first occasionally (which is truly something special). My kids fly Emirates unaccompanied sometimes (economy, of course), which they love. I know everyone's experience is different but Emirates has delivered so consistently it will be hard to wean me off. That said, the 777 product is woeful.
Im a Emirates A380 girl. Just love their BC. Yes the 777 is not so good but only had it on the shorter daytime hops to Europe. Our flights next year 3 xA380 and 1 x777. Cant wait. Always feel like my holiday has begun when i get on the A380. And i have to say Emirates ground customer service is brilliant. Makes Qantas look like ametur hour. Though they have been heading downhill both in the air and on the hround for sometime.
Dan, I subscribe to a few aviation channels. You, however, is the best in articulating your assessments of the airline. You’re quite eloquent, mostly objective and your delivery is excellent. Like an editorial. Only 1 little detail- sometimes you speak so fast I couldn’t catch up. 😅nevertheless I’m a fan of you and Oskar. Happy New Year.
Thank you Dan. To concur with the other commenters here, this was a really well made video - loved this new style and hope you do more of these along with your usual content. Hope you had a nice Christmas and wishing Oskar and yourself a happy new year ahead! 🙂
I can't stop watching your videos now. Ever since the Virgin Atlantic downgrade one randomly popped up in the algorithm and I watched it (mainly because I'll be flying via VA to NYC in Feb), I'm addicted by this content. It's great stuff, keep it up!
Yes this. In 2019 our flight Doha-Copenhagen was the old style 2:2:2 configured craft. It was ok on the shorter leg of our trip. We had an equipment swap (Doha-Adelaide) this necessitated the half hour bus trip and stair climb. At least business class had a roomy bus, while the economy were crammed in to another one or more. They loaded the economy buses first, then the business class. When we got to the plane, we loaded first and economy had to wait. It must have been intolerable in those buses.
I don't think he'll have that issue. Ultimately, what got Josh Cahill in trouble was putting peoples' faces on video without their consent. Yes, the critical video was probably the real reason, but taping people without their OK did end up being the rule violation.
@@lebelgo Yes, obviously it was just their excuse. So it's a moot point. That said, I don't understand why Josh said he accepted the directive from the presumably chief purser, yet went right on videoing. Strange? Or is that too charitable.
Yes, there is a difference in treatment depending on the country. I noticed that .About a month ago I traveled from Guangzhou to Doha. On the flight from Guangzhou to Doha I took the business B777-300er Qsuit but you know what? When we got off the plane the bus was for economy class not the one for business. and they didn't take good care I felt a huge difference, especially since I am a constant business class traveler on Qatar airways.
I was lucky to have an equipment change upgraded to q-suite. The 4 leg journey from Manchester to Tokyo ended up with 3 q-suites. The Tokyo return was on the 777 and Doha - Manchester was a350. The a350 was a much nicer cabin. Usual airbus topping boeing
Absolutely! Qatar Airways Business Class is in a league of its own-luxury, comfort, and service redefined. The QSuite alone is a game-changer. Let’s talk about how it makes flying feel like a five-star hotel in the sky!
Thanks Dan! Really informative. That is what sets you aside from others - loads of background info. I never knew the backstory behind the airline’s issues
Just had our qatarairways flight from Manila to Doha changed from qsuite to 787-8 😵💫fortunately complimentary change so we got to change that, but now now we have an 11hr layover but hey Ho transit tour here we come.
The economy experience alone is much worse than when I first flew them in 2017 which is frankly impressive. They’ve also been the only ME3 carrier out of ATL for over 8 years and hopefully Etihad will knock some sense into them starting next year. Emirates will also replace their 777 seats before QR even manages to standardize their fleet.
NonstopDan I just traveled with Qatar Business Class and it was amazing. I must admit this was due to your videos as I have watched other reviews but find your videos are really well done but also real opinions of your experiences
Great stuff! One question... why do you hold the mic instead of attaching it to your shirt? I think it would look more professional if you did it that way.
Exact reason we don't fly Qatar anymore going in that directionn and use Emirates instead. Much more consistent. You know what you get and it's always good 👍🏻
Great video Dan. Really liked the investigative journalism style - a departure from your normal reviews, but no less enjoyable. You’ve got a wealth of knowledge of the industry, so more of these ‘story behind the story’ videos would be great! 🙌🏻
I flew Qatar business on the 787-8 from Kathmandu and it was amazing. The staff were great and it was so nice to have such a yummy hot meal and be able to order hot drinks throughout the flight, I hope they can sort all this out.
Thank you Dan! This just had to be said. Too many people book Qatar J class expecting the Qsuite product but more often than not they get one of the other configurations.
Thank you for this. I knew there was inconsistency in their business product but didn't realise the experience in business was so poor if you didn't fly on an aircraft with Q-suite.
Interesting. My hubbie and I flew them on our way to Cairo (via Doha, of course) from LAX. We were lucky to get the Q-suite from LAX to DOH and back, but, although our AA Advantage number was clearly on our boarding passes, Qatar ripped us off by not giving us the AA Advantage miles to which we were entitled. It took hours of work over several weeks talking to many people from both airlines, send e-mail copies of our boarding passes, and so on, to get that taken care of. It soured our willingness to fly with them again. As you said, nice soft product, but we didn't appreciate being ripped off for all of those miles, which are quite valuable.
This is a good video! I had a Turkish flight scheduled with a 787-9. Late aircraft change to a 777. I specifically booked my flight because of the 787-9, and was kind of let down because the 777 product is outdated, amongst other things. Turkish, to my knowledge does not advertise their flights with their different business class products, apart from the seat map maybe. Qatar on the other hand does. They advertise and sell you the Q-suite product while booking the flight. It’s a lot cheaper flying on most of the 787-8/9 operated routes, compared to the Q-Suite equipped aircraft’s. They market the product, and the prices are clearly more expensive on routes operated with Q-Suite equipped aircraft (not always, but in most cases) An aircraft change resulting in a downgraded cabin from the Q-Suite should definitely qualify for a refund of some sort. All the best ✈️
I actually have been lucky, had probably 16 Qatar long distance flights in the last 24 months and only had an equipment swap on 1 (!) flight and that was actually on the short hop from Kuwait to Doha. There they swapped from an a359 with Q-suite to an old 777 with 2-2-2 in biz. As I was sitting next to a nice Kuwaiti and we chatted for the whole flight it wasn´t a big deal. As my home airport is BER (Berlin) we normally get the 789 which has a business class suite which isn´t much different from the Q-suite. A seat mattress would be nice, caviar service an appreciated extra, especially as the prices have increased by 30% since corona.
Not to mention having notifications of aircraft changes with different seat config. I experienced it with one of my Qatar biz class. The seat comfig changed 3x within 2 days
Except for the oldest J seats, Qatar J is better than most options in most markets. That said, I understand the lunch bag letdown of missing out on QSuites.
I have been flying Qatar Airways Business class since Covid, but you're so right, I just did a Hong Kong to Qatar to New York. It was the old Cathay aircraft that flies HK to Doha, then the lovely Q Suite to New York, so really inconsistent in equipment. I'm looking forward to your review of the new Aria seats from Cathay which I just saw at an event. Looks pretty fab.
Thanks Dan, great detail and agree consistency is key in making a choice of carriers for J class and hence have largely avoided QR, even though superb soft product. Maldives looks stunning.
I flew from DXB-DOH-DFW-MSP for $2,300 USD back in July, and I was originally scheduled to fly on a Boeing 777-300ER for the DXB-DOH leg. Just before boarding, we were notified of an equipment swap. Now granted, it was an A350-1000 with the QSuites, but it was definitely a surprise. That was my first taste of the Dreaded Qatar Airways equipment swap.
Thanks, Dan, for highlighting this long-standing issue, which I have unfortunately experienced numerous times over the past few years, and likely will in the upcoming future. When I have complained to Qatar, they always respond that I'm not paying for the seat, but rather the service. Hogwash! I reported them to the USA Federal Trade Commission as an illegal bait and switch scheme. Although, when I flew them from Doha to Miami back in July, I got the Qsuite, as advertised/purchased.
3:19 that could have been the DNA of cabin design to isolate passengers with Distanciation in aircrafts and perhaps rethink the size and space in the loo for all passengers.
Great video. Keep them coming Dan. I find it very arrogant for anyone or any corporation to state to the multiverse that they're the best. It's a huge turnoff. Throw in lack of consistency coupled with high fares and alleged shady business dealings and you know the reason some people simply avoid flying Qatar Airlines. Doesn't help being a part of a government who's not respectful of some basic human rights. Incidentally, you took some risk of getting banned, these lads don't seem to appreciate well-intentioned feedback.
Excellent insight into the airline, Dan! I've flown Qatar quite a bit over the last year and it seems pretty apparent to me that they're experiencing growing pains. The inconsistency in their business class offering has put me off of them for a while. The last two flights I took I was downgraded from Qsuite. Hoping they'll find their way again, but hard to tell in such a competitive industry.
It’s understandable when it comes to types that they want to retire ASAP, like the 777-200LR, 777-300ER, A330, and A320CEO. But they do need to retrofit fleets that they want to keep for the long term, like the A350-900 and 787
Thanks for the video Dan. I've only flown Qatar once as their pricing is just outrageous, but I was very specific about booking A380 services only (Sydney - Frankfurt then London - Sydney). I had heard about their appalling equipment swaps (getting "Qatar'd") and really wanted the best premium experience for my money. Although their A380s don't have QSuite, the onboard experience is by no means inferior, and I really liked the reverse herringbone layout and onboard bar. I'd gladly fly Qatar again, but they don't always fly A380s out of Australia anymore, and I'm very reluctant to risk getting Qatar'd on such a long-haul flight (and at such a premium price).
This is not problem of QR, but it is a very good move because they don't have to give the best pieces to defeat weak opponents. Only a few of airlines offer equivalent hard products to QR. Non-Qsuite Business class of QR on 787, 350, 380 are still far ahead, compare to LX, LH, AI, TG and so on.
Qatar airways seem to love Maldives. My flight from Doha to Auckland emergency landed there 2 weeks ago with a failed engine. The long flight of 16 hrs became 31 hours with 14 hours stuck in Maldives departure lounge. Replacement plane was still an A350-1000 but the q-suite was slightly different than the original plane.
I'm planning a trip to Europe from BKK next year, and I'm looking to travel on either Emirates or Qatar. If I book EK and they do an equipment swap, I go from 1-2-1 seating on A380s to 2-3-2 on B777s. If QR has an equipment swap, I still get 1-2-1 or 2-2-2 seating, which is preferable. I'd really prefer to go with Emirates, but I don't want to be downgraded to a premium economy product with business class amenities. Even with 2-2-2 seating, I can book a middle section seat with direct aisle access and no one stepping over me.
This happen to me this year on my flight Doha to Kuala Lumpur. It was my birthday trip 😥 ....But it I did get Q Suite on my flight home. AND the Qatar Airways flight attendants gave me a cute decorated slice of birthday cake. Long live QSuites!
I have the same feeling about Qatar airways, used to be my favorite airline, but now is just an unpredictable hot mess experience. I like to know what I get, do not love surprises, especially when it’s a downgrade.
Please make another video - We need to talk about Qatar Airways ALL classes I used to like them but my last few experiences have been far from impressive. Staying on the tarmac in Qatar without air-conditioning for an hour in the heat of July, delays, moving from the aeroplane to the terminal on a bus, degradation in the quality of the food, food with plastic cutlery... What's next - switch from food to peanuts like the western airlines?
I booked economy to Islamabad, Pakistan. Was offered upgrade to Q suite for £200. I’m surprised they use that aircraft on that route because even at those prices it was empty.

Insta360? Nothing dodgy about their marketing.
I have yet to see an apology from Al Baker or Al Meer regarding the treatment of those women back in October 2020

pandemic is still ongoing
12 different business class seats… Now I understand why Emirates are just remodeling their current business class… the consistency is a night and day
I've missed these industry analysis videos, it's like going back to 2021, Nonstop Dan. This is a clever mix of both, great vid.
Thanks so much 🙏
Good job Dan, you approached the topic quite considerately, no shade, no drama, just an honest feedback that had to be done.
Thanks so much!

I purposely avoid Qatar for this exact reason, glad someone said it so eloquently on RUclips.
I purposely avoid Qatar because it belongs to a backwards wahhabism-sponsoring state.
I saved all my money for a biz class Qatar and was so disappointed that it was not qsuites despite it stating so when booking and seat choosing. While service was flawless, I couldn't help feel shortchanged.
Now with such high fares, will stick to pre eco on another competitor airline
Truly one of your best videos yet! Love the detail and the graphics.

I don't understand how airlines get away with what's basically false advertising.

Agree the 777 Emirates is shockingly bad for business. Seems all business flights out of LDN Stansted to DXB are 777’s so outdated!!

YES!!! QSuite is great but its like playing a mini lottery
Thanks! I Hope Qatarairways take this issue seriously

“I’m flying to the Maldives to make a point”, I laughed so hard you should have doubled down on that!
Succinct and totally accurate ( and fair ) video review on Qatar Airways
I flew Qatar business on the 787-8 from Kathmandu and it was amazing. The staff were great and it was so nice to have such a yummy hot meal and be able to order hot drinks throughout the flight, I hope they can sort all this out.
feel bad for their FAs having to study and serve on so many different configurations....on an already super strict and restricrive airline
Wait until the airport expansion ❤
Thank you Dan! This just had to be said. Too many people book Qatar J class expecting the Qsuite product but more often than not they get one of the other configurations.
Already a Thank you! for recognizing the DIFFERENCE in how pax board the plane. Jetway is SO SUPERIOR to tarmac bus!
Thank you for this. I knew there was inconsistency in their business product but didn't realise the experience in business was so poor if you didn't fly on an aircraft with Q-suite.
Hi Dan - Happy Christmas to you and yours - I love your new look with the ‘tache - it really suits you and you look really handsome with it 😍😍😍😍😍
Interesting.
Thank you Dan and Merry Christmas, also a happy new year.
You too!
Sitting! 💜👸🏾💜
Really interesting & informative video Dan.
SO GLAM!
Definitely!
You and Oscar are such a nice match. Thanks for the vids
I flew Qatar from Hong Kong in business class and I had a weird seat but the crew and service was the best
Interested to see how this plays out with Qatar Airways. Dan has more subscribers than that other guy so this will surely get their attention.
I’ll have to check those out! 🙏
Thanks Dan, great detail and agree consistency is key in making a choice of carriers for J class and hence have largely avoided QR, even though superb soft product. Maldives looks stunning.
i always look forward to your videos, its like i am on board :D
Glad you like them! 🙏
Great research, great seat map - if there's a test at the end I sure hope we can use our notes.
Ha! I'll have to come up with a quiz for next time 😉
I'll be flying Qatar business Bangkok - 777 - Doha - 787 - Barcelona in March, thanks for this info!
This is literally why I choose to fly Emirates over Qatar Airways, because I know what I'm going to get
I flew from DXB-DOH-DFW-MSP for $2,300 USD back in July, and I was originally scheduled to fly on a Boeing 777-300ER for the DXB-DOH leg. Just before boarding, we were notified of an equipment swap. Now granted, it was an A350-1000 with the QSuites, but it was definitely a surprise. That was my first taste of the Dreaded Qatar Airways equipment swap.
Dan, fijne kerstdagen = Merry Christmas in Dutch
Great video 🎉, hello from Nautistyles 👋
Very constructive and informative 🙏
excellent behind the scenes look at Qatar Airways. Thank you for representing the flying public. Hope you and Dan have a great holiday season.
I meant Oskar when wishing you a great holiday season.
Thanks so much! Same to you!
You were so right about the Qatar pineapple margarita, 👌🏻
Ive flown this layout a few months ago. It was actually really nice. I still prefer Qatar way above many others.
I was saving points to try Q-suite but maybe it's better to book another airline.
3:19 that could have been the DNA of cabin design to isolate passengers with Distanciation in aircrafts and perhaps rethink the size and space in the loo for all passengers.
Got to say I have flown many Qatar flights and only had to bus it in Doha a very few times
It's such a shame when the Qsuite is so great. I hope they are able to find some consistency.
Thank you for the great content and well produced and interesting videos….well done.
Thank you very much!
Just stick with emirates their business class product is simply incredible whatever aircraft you’re on.
Thank you Dan - great video - have a terrific Christmas Holiday. Enjoy.
You too! Thanks for watching. 🙏
Nice video Dan, your best yet. I love the detail you went into, your well onto 1Mil subscribers
Thanks so much! Great name by the way 🙏
Qatar airways seem to love Maldives.
I was following that flight! I hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience!
The last few times I flew Auckland to Doha, I was in a B777 300ER - not great in business. Uncomfortable compared to Singapore and Emirates.
Highly unlikely to get equipment change on Emitates. In 15 plus flights never had one.
Sitting! 👸🏾💜
This happen to me this year on my flight Doha to Kuala Lumpur. It was my birthday trip 😥 ....But it I did get Q Suite on my flight home. AND the Qatar Airways flight attendants gave me a cute decorated slice of birthday cake. Long live QSuites!
CX 777-300er isn’t bad, it’s not QSuite but I’ll never complain about a reverse herringbone
I have the same feeling about Qatar airways, used to be my favorite airline, but now is just an unpredictable hot mess experience. I like to know what I get, do not love surprises, especially when it’s a downgrade.
Please make another video - We need to talk about Qatar Airways ALL classes
I used to like them but my last few experiences have been far from impressive. Staying on the tarmac in Qatar without air-conditioning for an hour in the heat of July, delays, moving from the aeroplane to the terminal on a bus, degradation in the quality of the food, food with plastic cutlery... What's next - switch from food to peanuts like the western airlines?
Oman Air's business class seats are awesome, especially if you get a window seat.
I agree!
I booked economy to Islamabad, Pakistan. Was offered upgrade to Q suite for £200.
I’m surprised they use that aircraft on that route because even at those prices it was empty.
a great review 😊
