I don't think they will do that. This does not damages the reputation of the airline, just highlights the genuine issue with the QR fleet at the moment.
@@hkia_aviation they banned Josh Cahill for posting constructive criticism and refusing to take it down when they contacted him offering a free flight
I don’t hold particular views one way or another, but I would be interested to know Dan’s thoughts on flying on carriers who are owned by government’s that outlaw homosexuality.
@@HumanTurnip I often wonder this myself, not just homosexuality but human rights in general. It wasn’t that long ago that 5 Australian women were pulled off a Qatar flight in Doha and given internal examinations to see if they’d given birth in the airport.
That was in the Al Bakar era and *that guy* had to go all singing and dancing to have the world turn on QR. I don’t think that will happen under Al Meer, that said, that situation did open my eyes to airline crew welfare.
@@SolunexxxJosh acts like a male Karen in every interaction he has. His tone of voice and his tendency to get immediately irritated at the slightest inconvience is just a turn-off. He could learn a thing or two from Dan on how to remain calm and respectful to the airline crew.
Preech dan! Let Dan cook! I am so happy someone has finally addressed this topic! Qatar is awesome but how can some routes just jump from an a320 all the way up to a 787 only for you to get a a330 in the end!
I like a bus gate and climbing the steps to the aircraft. I find it very interesting being able to see other aircraft close up and getting a good view of the actual aircraft I'll be flying in.
Another great video, Dan! I booked my first Q-Suite and A380 First Class flight last month to Perth Australia and I'm already a victim of an equipment swap, and have been 'downgraded' to business class Q-Suite from first. Being that the amount of avios I used was the same for business and first, I'm not too upset from that standpoint, but I was really looking forward to the ground experience in Doha. Fortunately I'm booked on a first class 777 from HK on the way back so I'll get to try the Cathay Pacific seats in first...hopefully. I love the insta360 cameras, as I have the X4 and Go3S as well. You made great use of it in this video! Only feedback is that I believe you're using the bluetooth audio which doesn't sound great at all. I think you have the DJI Mic 2, which has internal audio which sounds much better. Love all of your videos!!
I think the limitation with cabin standardisation is that you would have to bring the aircraft into the MRO facility & there would be a downtime of approximately 3 weeks + to retrofit every aircraft with the same seat; and as we all know in aviation - an aircraft on the ground isn’t making any revenue therefore this is a direct trade-off between business continuity & customer experience - you can ground your fleet & retrofit them with the same business class seat but you’d lose out on the revenue & if this continues, the drop in customer experience scores could ultimately impact revenue anyway; so the decision centre is very much focused around when the revenue is willing to be lost/compromised 🤷♂️
Dan, I fly business class Qatar out of Miami to Doha and then on to Nairobi, Kenya several times a year. Always on the A350-1000, in Qsuite. I love it and confess to being addicted to it. On occasion, my trip home on the leg from Nairobi to Doha has been other than Qsuite. In those instances, I flew the Boeing 777-200lr. I have to say that Buisness Class in the 777-200 was immaculte, the crew was fantastic, and it was very comfortable. A positive experience all around. Why my comment? Sometimes, change is difficult. I look at it this way. I'm blessed to be able to fly a high-quality business class product as i am a revenue customer who flies and travels for fun. So i don' t let the change of equipment rent any space in my head. Have a Merry Christmas, and keep providing your valuable content.
Dan, I hardly missed any of your videos as far as I know and now I couldn't stop myself saying, I can't see my most favorite RUclipsr is becoming the next Josh Cahill (PERIOD)
I like these kinds of videos, Dan. They're very informative and I learn a lot. I hope you and Oskar had a great time in the Maldives! I don't think Qatar takes criticism of any kind very well, though. Josh Cahill had the same issues, and they banned him from the airline because he wouldn't remove his video.🙄 You both have an excellent point. If an airline as second rate as United can do it, why can't Qatar? Oh, well, first world problems, huh? you and Oskar have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to your further adventures in 2025. Hugs!
I just flew with QR from HKG to CDG via DOH. First leg was on the ex-CX plane - very old product (especially hardware-wise, the screen was barely controllable...) but still comfy; for second leg, I don't remember it was a Qsuite when I booked but it turned to be one with their A350 (still, we went through an endless bus ride to get to the plane - really don't know why - QR is not a low cost anyway...). It's my first time in Qsuite - I have not flown with many airlines but based on my limited experience here is what I felt after the trip. PLUS side: the dining is great (compared with AF that I take regularly - the mise en place even in AF's business is very average), and bedding as well as auxiliary such as amenity kit are really good. Mixed side: I don't feel the same vibe / attitude from the crew (really depends on who serves you - whereas I have to say with AF I felt less discrepancy over all my long haul trips - surprisingly from a grumpy country like France); I felt the suite was not that spacious (compared with AF business, let along AF's row 10 in their A350); last but not least, I found the IFE quite average (v.s. CX which has probably one of the best). Just sharing my experience, wondering how everyone else's experience has been
Yes this. In 2019 our flight Doha-Copenhagen was the old style 2:2:2 configured craft. It was ok on the shorter leg of our trip. We had an equipment swap (Doha-Adelaide) this necessitated the half hour bus trip and stair climb. At least business class had a roomy bus, while the economy were crammed in to another one or more. They loaded the economy buses first, then the business class. When we got to the plane, we loaded first and economy had to wait. It must have been intolerable in those buses.
I have only flown Qatar 4 times. Each of those times it was supposed to be QSuite but that was never to be due to "equipment changes". One flight was on a 2-2-2 configuration that was straight out of the 90's. With Emirates now upgrading their business class hard product, I think in future I will be flying with them again.
This is a good video! I had a Turkish flight scheduled with a 787-9. Late aircraft change to a 777. I specifically booked my flight because of the 787-9, and was kind of let down because the 777 product is outdated, amongst other things. Turkish, to my knowledge does not advertise their flights with their different business class products, apart from the seat map maybe. Qatar on the other hand does. They advertise and sell you the Q-suite product while booking the flight. It’s a lot cheaper flying on most of the 787-8/9 operated routes, compared to the Q-Suite equipped aircraft’s. They market the product, and the prices are clearly more expensive on routes operated with Q-Suite equipped aircraft (not always, but in most cases) An aircraft change resulting in a downgraded cabin from the Q-Suite should definitely qualify for a refund of some sort. All the best ✈️
Great video Dan. Really liked the investigative journalism style - a departure from your normal reviews, but no less enjoyable. You’ve got a wealth of knowledge of the industry, so more of these ‘story behind the story’ videos would be great! 🙌🏻
I can't stop watching your videos now. Ever since the Virgin Atlantic downgrade one randomly popped up in the algorithm and I watched it (mainly because I'll be flying via VA to NYC in Feb), I'm addicted by this content. It's great stuff, keep it up!
The variations in seats must complicate Qatar's staff training, maintenance, repairs and spare parts management as well. I am sure an organisation like Qatar will be working in the background on a plan given their focus on operational excellence and efficiency
I have been flying Qatar Airways Business class since Covid, but you're so right, I just did a Hong Kong to Qatar to New York. It was the old Cathay aircraft that flies HK to Doha, then the lovely Q Suite to New York, so really inconsistent in equipment. I'm looking forward to your review of the new Aria seats from Cathay which I just saw at an event. Looks pretty fab.
how to make sure where get the business suites that we want during booking? is it from the routes? coz sometimes airlines change aircraft last minute like maybe due to technical issues.
The economy experience alone is much worse than when I first flew them in 2017 which is frankly impressive. They’ve also been the only ME3 carrier out of ATL for over 8 years and hopefully Etihad will knock some sense into them starting next year. Emirates will also replace their 777 seats before QR even manages to standardize their fleet.
Excellent insight into the airline, Dan! I've flown Qatar quite a bit over the last year and it seems pretty apparent to me that they're experiencing growing pains. The inconsistency in their business class offering has put me off of them for a while. The last two flights I took I was downgraded from Qsuite. Hoping they'll find their way again, but hard to tell in such a competitive industry.
I'm planning a trip to Europe from BKK next year, and I'm looking to travel on either Emirates or Qatar. If I book EK and they do an equipment swap, I go from 1-2-1 seating on A380s to 2-3-2 on B777s. If QR has an equipment swap, I still get 1-2-1 or 2-2-2 seating, which is preferable. I'd really prefer to go with Emirates, but I don't want to be downgraded to a premium economy product with business class amenities. Even with 2-2-2 seating, I can book a middle section seat with direct aisle access and no one stepping over me.
Thanks Dan, great detail and agree consistency is key in making a choice of carriers for J class and hence have largely avoided QR, even though superb soft product. Maldives looks stunning.
I actually have been lucky, had probably 16 Qatar long distance flights in the last 24 months and only had an equipment swap on 1 (!) flight and that was actually on the short hop from Kuwait to Doha. There they swapped from an a359 with Q-suite to an old 777 with 2-2-2 in biz. As I was sitting next to a nice Kuwaiti and we chatted for the whole flight it wasn´t a big deal. As my home airport is BER (Berlin) we normally get the 789 which has a business class suite which isn´t much different from the Q-suite. A seat mattress would be nice, caviar service an appreciated extra, especially as the prices have increased by 30% since corona.
I'm flying Qatar in May. Most of these business class products don't worry me, but I'd be annoyed if I got that super old one without aisle access. Is there a way to know what routes are likely to get that?
Exact reason we don't fly Qatar anymore going in that directionn and use Emirates instead. Much more consistent. You know what you get and it's always good 👍🏻
Great video. Keep them coming Dan. I find it very arrogant for anyone or any corporation to state to the multiverse that they're the best. It's a huge turnoff. Throw in lack of consistency coupled with high fares and alleged shady business dealings and you know the reason some people simply avoid flying Qatar Airlines. Doesn't help being a part of a government who's not respectful of some basic human rights. Incidentally, you took some risk of getting banned, these lads don't seem to appreciate well-intentioned feedback.
I flew from DXB-DOH-DFW-MSP for $2,300 USD back in July, and I was originally scheduled to fly on a Boeing 777-300ER for the DXB-DOH leg. Just before boarding, we were notified of an equipment swap. Now granted, it was an A350-1000 with the QSuites, but it was definitely a surprise. That was my first taste of the Dreaded Qatar Airways equipment swap.
QR should gamify the experience by sending prizes to those who have flown them all 💺💺💺🏅 Maybe a free Al Safwa Lounge voucher for those who did all 12, and a free business-class roundtrip who did them all paying full fare 🎟️
Except for the oldest J seats, Qatar J is better than most options in most markets. That said, I understand the lunch bag letdown of missing out on QSuites.
Absolutely! Qatar Airways Business Class is in a league of its own-luxury, comfort, and service redefined. The QSuite alone is a game-changer. Let’s talk about how it makes flying feel like a five-star hotel in the sky!
I tried Qatar 2 years ago. It was supposed to be 4 legs (return) qsuite. Ended up with just one leg because equipment change, which was disappointing, not OK to bounce me into 2-3-2. Lounge in doha is superb. I travel between Asia and London 4-5 times a year and for me it's Emirates all the way. As long as I stick to the a380, it's just so good and so consistent, and i can use miles to shuffle forward to first occasionally (which is truly something special). My kids fly Emirates unaccompanied sometimes (economy, of course), which they love. I know everyone's experience is different but Emirates has delivered so consistently it will be hard to wean me off. That said, the 777 product is woeful.
Im a Emirates A380 girl. Just love their BC. Yes the 777 is not so good but only had it on the shorter daytime hops to Europe. Our flights next year 3 xA380 and 1 x777. Cant wait. Always feel like my holiday has begun when i get on the A380. And i have to say Emirates ground customer service is brilliant. Makes Qantas look like ametur hour. Though they have been heading downhill both in the air and on the hround for sometime.
Thank you Dan! This just had to be said. Too many people book Qatar J class expecting the Qsuite product but more often than not they get one of the other configurations.
Thanks for the video Dan. I've only flown Qatar once as their pricing is just outrageous, but I was very specific about booking A380 services only (Sydney - Frankfurt then London - Sydney). I had heard about their appalling equipment swaps (getting "Qatar'd") and really wanted the best premium experience for my money. Although their A380s don't have QSuite, the onboard experience is by no means inferior, and I really liked the reverse herringbone layout and onboard bar. I'd gladly fly Qatar again, but they don't always fly A380s out of Australia anymore, and I'm very reluctant to risk getting Qatar'd on such a long-haul flight (and at such a premium price).
Thank you for this. I knew there was inconsistency in their business product but didn't realise the experience in business was so poor if you didn't fly on an aircraft with Q-suite.
3:19 that could have been the DNA of cabin design to isolate passengers with Distanciation in aircrafts and perhaps rethink the size and space in the loo for all passengers.
Hey Dan, been lucky enough to fly DOH-AKL return on Qatar six times in the last three years, both before and after the swap from B777 to A350 direct. 12 flights, always Qsuite and always a jet bridge at AKL. Perhaps I just got lucky?
Not to mention having notifications of aircraft changes with different seat config. I experienced it with one of my Qatar biz class. The seat comfig changed 3x within 2 days
It’s understandable when it comes to types that they want to retire ASAP, like the 777-200LR, 777-300ER, A330, and A320CEO. But they do need to retrofit fleets that they want to keep for the long term, like the A350-900 and 787
For those don't know what happened... Qatar leased 6 77ws from Cathay due to A350 Paint issue... Repaint it and change the ife, then went into service as Qatar...without!changing the config Therefore, ladies and gentlemen,MAY I INTRODUCE YOU!!!TO THE 1st BOEING AIRCRAFT TYPE THAT HAS FIRST CLASS in the Qatar Airway's history books...QATAR PACIFIC A7-BOA OB OC OD OH OI
I booked economy to Islamabad, Pakistan. Was offered upgrade to Q suite for £200. I’m surprised they use that aircraft on that route because even at those prices it was empty.
This is not problem of QR, but it is a very good move because they don't have to give the best pieces to defeat weak opponents. Only a few of airlines offer equivalent hard products to QR. Non-Qsuite Business class of QR on 787, 350, 380 are still far ahead, compare to LX, LH, AI, TG and so on.
Qatar airways seem to love Maldives. My flight from Doha to Auckland emergency landed there 2 weeks ago with a failed engine. The long flight of 16 hrs became 31 hours with 14 hours stuck in Maldives departure lounge. Replacement plane was still an A350-1000 but the q-suite was slightly different than the original plane.
Great video, Dan… having second thoughts now about booking a trip to Auckland for next year Xmas… It was planned to be a BC trip with Qatar from London.
A year ago I paid for seat selection in business. Due to the aircraft swap I expected and requested refund. After a long time and many emails QR refunded partly. Very annoying.
I have the same feeling about Qatar airways, used to be my favorite airline, but now is just an unpredictable hot mess experience. I like to know what I get, do not love surprises, especially when it’s a downgrade.
Why did they switch this route to the 777-300ER and put the A350-900 on short haul routes? Is it just capacity? Cargo? Also nice to see you went to Amilla :) Great property!
That was very enlightening, lesson of the day is, I'll fly from Paris next time I visit family in Oz 😅 That info makes Qatar unreliable in terms of being sure you get what you thought you were booking. That is frustrating. I have always been a fan of Singapore Airlines, and I am not sure if Qatar are truly the best after hearing this. Food for thought! 🤔 I really appreciate your reports, keep up the good work 👍 🙋♀️🇬🇧💖

Great research, great seat map - if there's a test at the end I sure hope we can use our notes.
Any idea if Atlanta-Doha/Doha-Atlanta is one of the more reliable or less reliable routes? For q suites
Exact reason we don't fly Qatar anymore going in that directionn and use Emirates instead. Much more consistent. You know what you get and it's always good 👍🏻
Love the history lesson! Your review of the food offerings was great as usual.
Glad you’re honest and not glazing Qatar Airways this time.
Thank you for flying with... Cathay Pacific business class seat??
I flew from DXB-DOH-DFW-MSP for $2,300 USD back in July, and I was originally scheduled to fly on a Boeing 777-300ER for the DXB-DOH leg. Just before boarding, we were notified of an equipment swap. Now granted, it was an A350-1000 with the QSuites, but it was definitely a surprise. That was my first taste of the Dreaded Qatar Airways equipment swap.
Already a Thank you! for recognizing the DIFFERENCE in how pax board the plane. Jetway is SO SUPERIOR to tarmac bus!
You and Oscar are such a nice match. Thanks for the vids
QR should gamify the experience by sending prizes to those who have flown them all 💺💺💺🏅
Maybe a free Al Safwa Lounge voucher for those who did all 12, and a free business-class roundtrip who did them all paying full fare 🎟️
Interested to see how this plays out with Qatar Airways. Dan has more subscribers than that other guy so this will surely get their attention.
SO GLAM!
“I’m flying to the Maldives to make a point”, I laughed so hard you should have doubled down on that!
I was saving points to try Q-suite but maybe it's better to book another airline.
I have a QSuite flight from LHR to DOH today & I woke up this morning genuinely praying that there isn’t an equipment swap 🥹
Are u joining Cahill to be banned?
3:19 that could have been the DNA of cabin design to isolate passengers with Distanciation in aircrafts and perhaps rethink the size and space in the loo for all passengers.
Hey Dan, been lucky enough to fly DOH-AKL return on Qatar six times in the last three years, both before and after the swap from B777 to A350 direct. 12 flights, always Qsuite and always a jet bridge at AKL. Perhaps I just got lucky?
I’ve never had the mattress pad flying with them. Even in the Q suite. Am I supposed to ask? 😅
Very constructive and informative 🙏
Not to mention having notifications of aircraft changes with different seat config. I experienced it with one of my Qatar biz class. The seat comfig changed 3x within 2 days
It’s understandable when it comes to types that they want to retire ASAP, like the 777-200LR, 777-300ER, A330, and A320CEO. But they do need to retrofit fleets that they want to keep for the long term, like the A350-900 and 787
For those don't know what happened...
Qatar leased 6 77ws from Cathay due to A350 Paint issue...
Repaint it and change the ife, then went into service as Qatar...without!changing the config
Therefore, ladies and gentlemen,MAY I INTRODUCE YOU!!!TO THE 1st BOEING AIRCRAFT TYPE THAT HAS FIRST CLASS in the Qatar Airway's history books...QATAR PACIFIC
A7-BOA OB OC OD OH OI
I mean I've never flown them but i really would like to go to Maldives it's wonderful
Lot of hidden costs with the Maldives that inflates the already premium amount you are paying.
I booked economy to Islamabad, Pakistan. Was offered upgrade to Q suite for £200.
I’m surprised they use that aircraft on that route because even at those prices it was empty.
I'll be flying Qatar business Bangkok - 777 - Doha - 787 - Barcelona in March, thanks for this info!
Very well said.
Very informative, thank you dan
I have the same feeling about Qatar airways, used to be my favorite airline, but now is just an unpredictable hot mess experience. I like to know what I get, do not love surprises, especially when it’s a downgrade.
Great video 🎉, hello from Nautistyles 👋
Sitting! 💜👸🏾💜
I honestly think the newer Qatar business class are way better than the older variant because they offer Better privacy unlike the old ones
YES!!! QSuite is great but its like playing a mini lottery
Why did they switch this route to the 777-300ER and put the A350-900 on short haul routes? Is it just capacity? Cargo? Also nice to see you went to Amilla :) Great property!
12:05 OK, that's 12 different business class seats. And you didn't mention the A380!
It's the 4th one on the 1st row, the same seat as on QR's 787-8s and older A350-900s.
But the point still stands, QR's hard product is highly inconsistent.
Great video love the moustache
What Maldives resort did you stay at?
That was very enlightening, lesson of the day is, I'll fly from Paris next time I visit family in Oz 😅 That info makes Qatar unreliable in terms of being sure you get what you thought you were booking. That is frustrating. I have always been a fan of Singapore Airlines, and I am not sure if Qatar are truly the best after hearing this. Food for thought! 🤔
I really appreciate your reports, keep up the good work 👍 🙋♀️🇬🇧💖
Oman Air's business class seats are awesome, especially if you get a window seat.
Ive flown this layout a few months ago. It was actually really nice. I still prefer Qatar way above many others.
Wait until the airport expansion ❤
Nice Video!...but the audio is weird on this one^^
Not flown much with Qatar but I do love their Q-suites. Equipment swaps are very frustrating with any airline.
12:39 because there life literally depends on it …
