I own an 2004 XJR and I have 258,000 miles on it. I’ve had really good luck with it and it has not been nearly as expensive to maintain as one would think. They have really simple electronics and are far more reliable than an E 65 7-series or a W 220 S-Class from the same era.

I have one paid 1200 from my neighbor she bought it new. Came with 2 sets of wheels jag wheels snow and summer. 89,000 miles and a book of jag maintenance. Only thing is watch the cooling fan motors . They just went out 800.$ because ya have to buy the whole set up. Other than that I have 107,000 on it no problem since.
I much rather & LOVE the multi-spoke.
A small hose clamp on the bottom of the cylinder of the hood struts is a good temporary fix. Looks better than a chunk of a broomstick.
Please any I make a suggestion. Don’t take your cars through those automated car washes. The flappy wipes lashing the bodywork can’t be doing the paintwork much good long term in my opinion often leave fine scratches.
I have owned my 2005 Xj8L w/4.2 V8 and six speed trans, since 2013, bought for 12K. In ten years of 60K driving I have sunk 12K into repairs or replacements in this car. The entire suspension arms and sways, (Poly bushings will stiffen the ride quit a bit) All brake rotors and pads, double action AC unit and lines, radiator, double water pumps, Hoses and trans lines, trans fluid and oil replacements and two sets of tires. 24K in ten years on an original priced 80K car isn't bad. Still looks like new inside and out. Now has 177K miles and Euro mechanic says engine and trans still looks good inside and it runs well. Now the head liner is starting to sag...
I wonder if the guy who sold it. Is watching this and punching the air, if this was not a case of not really needing the car or money.

I own a Exact year color combo VDP with 43K, it's the best and cheapest Sunday drive among four other special cars I own and the most reliable Jaguar I have owned so far since 2008, I know they are notorious for Airbags going bad on the CATS suspension Air ride system at around 80,000 to 100,000 miles point so I replaced them ahead of time with ARNOTT shock Air ride kit, and they are bullet proof, probably last the life of the car!
I'm happy with mine TK, Oil change on time even though I barely put any miles on it, the last trip I took to Florida I put 1600 miles on it and that was it, they're great on Gas when you take a long trip and super comfy, YOU STOLE this Vanden Plas for $2,000. These days for two grand people get a trashed out clunker like an older KIA that needs to be ditched after a while! Good Luck on your project, you hit a Jackpot. I kept mine factory but got some fantastic Continental Touring tires for it, now it's even smoother and bit more quiet on the highway.
If you let it sit too long the battery dies because of so much computing in the electronic circuit going on with the car self checking itself every 10 minutes, so a trickle charger is a good investment if you plan to let her sit for a while!

Wheels look good to me,they fine,but a set of wire wheels would be a BING EFFECT...
By all means upgrade if you need to or want to, but in my experience the steering wheel being out of alignment is a common and annoying result whereby mechanics rarely seem to take attention to detail in realignment. It usually follows after say track rod ends being changed and the tracking laser alignment of wheels in each corner, but they can’t seem to get or be bothered to get the steering wheel right. My car’s steering wheel is off to one side a few degrees in the UK, but when I drive my car in France it’s ok due to opposite camber on driving the right lane compensating compared to UK driving on the left.

TK, when I was growing up I always heard that, Knowledge was king. You proved it when you bought the Jaguar. Third person there to buy it and the only person that knew about the key opening the trunk. Now your wearing the Jaguar crown and not someone else.

Don’t change the wheels. Those others would not look good on silver. Tint the windows and get new valve stem caps.

He Called the worlds most awful grill. He compared it to the the grill like Randys XJS and said that was the preferred grill. I may buy one today. it has 236 thousand miles. the ball joints are bad. the hood is stuck shut. but it runs and drives. I am a little nervous about buying an 01 Vanden Plas for $2300 but I think I am going to. Any tips?

There’s no spider hoses on that car...it’s not supercharged - that’s only the XJR but there is a hose that runs under the intake - the throttle body return hose.
There’s also nothing wrong with the bushings other than age - polyurethane bushings will kill the ride and makes no sense when you have an air suspension
