After every episode when this theme hits and the end credits start, goosebumps appear on my body and I get lost in the World of the Wire, deeply thinking what went down in the last hour. The chills man! No words can describe the magnitude and the brilliance of this legendary show. And much of it is down to this ending theme that describes the series so much.
The fact the line gets blurred for good and evil along with 3 dimensional complicated characters making it vastly superior than vast other crime drama tv shows of the simple black and white. Plus it's a multiple POV tv show making it vastly superior than 9ther tv shows in that way.
I agree with both comments. I only discovered this show last year. I watched all 5 seasons over 6 weeks. LOL. The show showcases the art of storytelling.
I first saw the wire in 2003. Senior year of high school for me. Close to 20 years for me. No other HBO show has ever been more impactful (other than The Sopranos).
Definitely ahead of its time. With police reform, criminal justice reform, and ending the drug war discussed much more today this show would have been dripping with Emmys.
They couldn't find a better sound to put at the end of the episodes. Everytime an episode ends, my brain starts to flashback the scenes of the episode as soon as this music begins, and I LOVE IT. Been my ringtone for 3 years straight now.
The ending theme always leaves you thinking. About the plot that unfolds on so many layers with every episode and every season. About the characters that make bad, horrible, human, good, wrong and right decisions. It is melancholic and never really uplifting. For a reason that every viewer, patient enough to dive into this great series will, at one point, feel and understand. It is the 3rd time I am re-watching this master piece. And I get something new out of almost every scene and dialogue. So good! Not to mention the superior acting of back then young and/or unknown actors but soon to become movie stars.
I'm a new fan to the show and just finished Season 2 and let me tell you!! This is the most amazing and brilliantly well-written shows Ive ever seen. All the characters are important to the plot and the writers are just so creative
This outro always made me think of Stringer Bell and Mcnulty’s rivalry, perfectly encapsulates the sophisticated cat and mouse game that was being played. After he died, every time this played i just felt like something was missing.
I feel lucky for discovering this show after the series ended, because it sounds painful to deal with, unfortunately I don't know anyone I can talk to about this show because nobody I know watches it.
I often stare at the screen once the credits are done rolling, just listening to the haunting music trying to decipher what just happened because often the ending would be pretty ambiguous. This show rules.
I know I'm late to this party but every time I hear this theme song I get sad. Because I know another great episode is ending and that means the entire story is inching closer to the end. The end of the entire series. Great series. I dare anyone to name a better crime story than The Wire.

Darth Sidious The Wire fanboys have overrated the hell out of this show. Maybe it's suburban white kids that never saw the hood are fascinated with this show .The Wire is a good show I'll give it that but it's way to slow, has to many boring police politics, and mediocre characters like McNulty. I never cared about ANY of the cops!
