    The more I learn about Electrical, the more I'm amazed by the endless thought and care that went into every aspect of the studio's design and operation to be as perfect as possible.

      Steve Albini suffers no foolishness, and that extends to his methods of operation. I'd love to record at Electrical Audio someday.

    I remember watching Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways and saw this studio for the first time. It was amazing. Especially, when one of the person who operates this facility is Steve Albini. The man is a genius

    I would’ve been terrified to record here....so we did that ourselves and booked Studio B to mix it. Still can’t believe how well it turned out. I try not to think what was thought of our raw recordings 😶.

      thats how I build my studio computers for recording..I put the motherboards in a Pelter junction type refrigerator...keeps em cool..you put a dissiccant block inside to trap any moisture...the last one I built lasted 10 YEARS before it required service...no dust..no NADA..nothing! BEAUTIFUL!..people buy the little cheap wine refridgerators and line them with cedar for their cigars.

    which one do you guys think have the best drum sound, studio A or B?

    • @gregnorman870
      @gregnorman870 3 года назад +1

      Totally depends on the project, but B is great for mid to slow tempo drums. Super speedy beats can get kind of messy, but you can always go with a good close mic setup to keep it together.
      A is great for all of it (either live room).

    • @pbee73
      @pbee73 5 лет назад +7

      Studio A is $600 per day, (a day is defined as any length of hours but not more than 10). If you use Steve add $900 to that fee.

    "don't switch ABC while playing" on the mellotron... why not? I do it all the time on my M400 & it's fine.

    • @gregnorman1489
      @gregnorman1489 3 года назад +2

      When you do that, the head assembly moves across the tapes laterally which, if a key is pressed, tape is pressed against the heads and can warp the tape or scratch the oxide. If you have worn tapes you might not notice, or you just might be lucky!

    • @duncan-rmi
      @duncan-rmi 3 года назад +1

      @@gregnorman1489 cheers, but I've been doing it for thirty years... the streetly guys were intrigued by the mod to my m400, which is a bit like the three-way/five-way switches on a strat. anyway, they didn't seem worried, & I've had no problems with tapes. the heads are smooth & don't have any protruding parts that could cause problems. :-)

    Who aligns the Tape Mach.? Is there anyone left that can do that? I know one guy haven't talk to him in years , but they would fly him all over to align the heads on the Studers ….thats a real Art. He has picture of him w/Clive Davis to Tom Shultz he does his Tape mach. He had give me a good price on Studer 16 Track. I believe his name is Dave Weeks ? I called him by another nick name. His house is Amps everywhere taken apart…he does REM's stuff everyone in Athens Ga. I need his number.

      @lucianoluggren 8 лет назад +2

      Hello. If you don't have a good tech near you, don't buy the tape machine. Aligning a tape machine it's relatively easy with the tape for that purpose. You have to clean and align the tape recorder every day. So you have to learn that job. But the difficult part it's machine maintenance or repair of moving parts, electronics, etc. Greetings from Argentina.

    • @KarmasTrainwreck
      @KarmasTrainwreck 6 лет назад +5

      Both Albini and Norman can align a tape machine in a whim. To be fair, I learnt it from Greg in an afternoon, and with an oscilloscope and some googling you probably will be able to do it yourself. Go for it!

    i always wonder how someone afforded to build something this huge in a relative short time, at early age and with instant-pro machines. maybe 80s were really this great?

    • @chalino5555

      Steve had a lot of friends in construction who worked for free

    • @TheJupiterGiant
      @TheJupiterGiant 6 лет назад

      yeah but c'mon, it would took a full squad of peolple working for a couple of months to build up something like that, with all the building, soundproofing, cabling, airing skill needed. is it really just "work of some friend for free"? hum hum hum.

    • @amphlett7
      @amphlett7 6 лет назад +1

      TheJupiterGiant yeah, but imagine if your friend was building a studio which you helped with.
      You would totally get free recording for at least a couple of years

    • @TheJupiterGiant
      @TheJupiterGiant 6 лет назад +2

      yeah, and then you have to record some people for free while paying bills, with a studio "cheap so anyone can racord into", while mantaining some-million worth of equipment and general studio recording maintenance up and running.
      dunno dude. i wish i could really have a book with those kind of chronicles to understand how they did. it seems so distant from my reality. maybe i have the wrong friends ehhe
