    I never get tired of watching Steve Albini do his work. He's the Gen-X version of Eddie Kramer in recording engineering terms.

      He’ll talk your ears off, though. Pretty cool if you know the guy and appreciate the technical side of stuff, I guess, but if you’re just there to record music I imagine at some point someone’s going ‘this geek won’t shut up’. And I LOVE him.

    I could listen to Steve all day. With that being said, the minute or so I had to endure listening to that noise was too much. But hey, to each their own and I was glad these fellas took us along for the ride!

    Steve seems like such a cool and helpful guy for an engineer. And all that equipment and expertise in that studio man... Probably the best studio I know of in every aspect and I've never even been there.

    Why is there a DAW running on a computer in the control room? Was that the band’s choice to record to disk? AFAIK, Albini strongly prefers tape. Really curious about this!

      They do anything the band wants, if they want to take the .vaw ttacks to somebody else to mix them. Steve doesn't handle the computer stuff but he's all about respecting the artist's wishes.

      @@mbjasondify check the „mixing Three“ video , they‘re mixing from Tape. The DAW was runnig in parallel to the tape machine while recording.

      It is unusual for him to have ProTools going.. he himself didn't for this session (Taylor, the other engineer, ran the DAW). We asked for PT because 30 hours of improvised chaos would have been an expensive amount of tape to go through AND would have made it impossible to parse in time for mixing. The final picks were transferred to tape and mixed by Steve.

    Huge fan of Steve... But if this monlogue is burning through session time that's a no-no.
    I once lost 500 dollars watching an engineer tune drums for wayyy longer than I cared for. Maybe 5 hours of it.

      the video is deceptive in how it was edited.. he wasn't just blathering on and on.. we were asking him questions and he was answering... a lot of the questions were technical (not shown) because we wanted to absorb as much of his wealth of knowledge that we could. he's very respectful and thoughtful regarding time... and, really, just in general.

I mean, who wouldn't ask a bunch of questions (may they be technical or regarding artistic concerns) while being at electrical audio and recording with Steve Albini.     Why are band members these days so feminen? Even when they wore makeup and literally dressed like women they could still kick your ass. These guys (besides Steve) couldn't close a fridge door if a doylie was hanging off the top. I just don't understand. It's starting to get embarrassing to tell people I play music because they are expecting a man bun and women's coconut scent.
