Why is there a DAW running on a computer in the control room? Was that the band’s choice to record to disk? AFAIK, Albini strongly prefers tape. Really curious about this!
They do anything the band wants, if they want to take the .vaw ttacks to somebody else to mix them. Steve doesn't handle the computer stuff but he's all about respecting the artist's wishes.

@@Eric_In_SF The guy is explaining all the history and nuances of the studio for 10 minutes and setting up mics like you'd set up Lance Armstrong's handlebars and it's like naah this might as well be the back of a Krispy Kreme recording on a Walkman using the headphones as mics.
Yea bruv. And what. You think he was joking about 16 bit tape machines sounding rubbish, or is some sort of religious audio snob? Uh uh. Man's reasonable.

We asked for PT because 30 hours of improvised chaos would have been an expensive amount of tape to go through AND would have made it impossible to parse in time for mixing. The final picks were transferred to tape and mixed by Steve.
Huge fan of Steve... But if this monlogue is burning through session time that's a no-no. I once lost 500 dollars watching an engineer tune drums for wayyy longer than I cared for. Maybe 5 hours of it.
the video is deceptive in how it was edited.. he wasn't just blathering on and on.. we were asking him questions and he was answering... a lot of the questions were technical (not shown) because we wanted to absorb as much of his wealth of knowledge that we could. he's very respectful and thoughtful regarding time... and, really, just in general.

i love that he wears like a mechanic's jumpsuit, the music is much too noisy though, you can barely tell what the groove is supposed to be, maybe it's just the camera mic sucked

Why are band members these days so feminen? Even when they wore makeup and literally dressed like women they could still kick your ass. These guys (besides Steve) couldn't close a fridge door if a doylie was hanging off the top. I just don't understand. It's starting to get embarrassing to tell people I play music because they are expecting a man bun and women's coconut scent.

@ Analog tape is expensive. Im sure it was a cost saving choice.
@@mbjasondify check the „mixing Three“ video , they‘re mixing from Tape. The DAW was runnig in parallel to the tape machine while recording.
They should really just record straight to trash can.
