    Make sure you use a stainless steel bit to drive the screws !! I've seen so many rust streaks from contaminated stainless steel screws. Golden knowledge there with the rod, very helpful.

      Blimey I have never considered using a stainless steel bit but it makes perfect sense, this is what I love about life we can all teach each other such useful tips and that one I will try, thanks mate

    Robin, my dad is a renowned UK engineer and his favorite phrase, borrowed from his renowned engineer friend in the US: PLAN AHEAD. Happy winter 2024 & stay warm mate! Ps- in the US the stick similar to one used by stairbuilders called a story pole: well named. Would be complete for new learners to see you transfer these ideas into the actual install if you had time(& what a fantastic trade school instruction video the two would be). Lastly, we have switched to entire use of stainless, inside & out.

      Hi Jon, probably a good idea to switch to stainless everywhere!!, thanks for the comment and watching!!

    Lovely wood to work with Robin so easy to cut, Over time it looks better when it goes the greyish colour, I done loads of this a few years ago on some new builds in Ealing Great advice again Robin 😊

    Its going to look amazing. It so important to take 5 minutes longer at the start and work out how everything will work in. Rather than crash into with no thought then having to work around issues

    Today I looked at an Aqualisa shower pump motor fault. YT had a couple of vid's which showed the fault/component/procedure, that's how I see this type of video, its one in the library for the future. Thanks very much, hopefully its keeping the Clevett's in bacon rolls for making the effort to put it all together. p.s. it does help when the tradesperson is accomplished at their craft.

      Well thank you!! I like to make evergreen content, I may not become the biggest RUclips account but what I want to do is share what I know and make it relevant now and hopefully in decades to come!! Your comment has given me hope!! Thank you!

    I like the story stick approach to setting up for attaching the cladding. In addition to the consistency, it also helps with memory as you can make notes on the stick. Construction adjacent: Now that Marfell's NFU50 is out, are you going to find an excuse to spend Pounds 2000 ($2500 US) on it? Ha ha. Had to ask . It's a beast. Simon Bowler reviews it on his RUclips channel.

    Love your work Robin and watch all your videos. I trust your methods but I took a gasp of air when you said 18guage pins... are they really adequate?
    Big fan!

    • @ukconstruction
      @ukconstruction  8 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Ben, it's a good observation, hence the reason that I mentioned 16 gauge also in the video, if the 18 gauge are the correct grade... and correct length and there are enough used properly... then they are perfect but... in the wrong hands or with bad application they may not be suitable hence the reason for your reaction!!

    However, the cladding cannot be left untreated on the wall, the UV will bleach the wood in few years. Some sort of finishing must be applied.

      Thermowood needs no additional treatment unless for fire requirements or if you do not want it to Silver down as it ages, the majority of installations of thermowood are indeed left to weather

    • @nZebco
      @nZebco 8 месяцев назад

      @@ukconstruction On paper you are right, I have done a holiday house with thermowood and two years later was coloured light brown from dark brown, so definitely SUN has something to say.

    • @nZebco
      @nZebco 8 месяцев назад

      Also what I meant to say was related to preservation of colour not the wood...I probably wasn't clear enough.

    A long measuring rod is a real plus for planning.so there are no (ugly) thin end pieces. Makes it easy to adjust and mark. Thanks for the reminder.

    Hey, Robin; To which extent do you prioritize to have the boards on the corner the same width?
    My boss usually says a board should ideally not be less than 20 % width. I can think of two ways to set up siding. The first is to measure every corner in per cent and make sure they're all above 20 %. The other is to simply put a board on a corner and measure out to every corner and put one board on every corner. From there slide all if them back and forth untill you like it. Of course you can also divide in fields and run done boards with a kittle more gap in order to reach a corner with enough width.
    I agree with you need to have a layout before you start - or you need to have a good enough picture of the end result if you're improvising.

      We also use brad nailers and shoot in the hidden part of the joint, or shoot on the face with stainless brads.
      After its great to use either laser or white chalk line to get straight nail-lines. We either use 30 degree full head nails or coil nails.

    • @ukconstruction
      @ukconstruction  8 месяцев назад +3

      It's a great question, I agree with the 20% thing if possible.... the rod really helps with these issues and we can open the courses of cladding by a millimeter or so for a number of courses to achieve a good outcome, thanks for your comment 😀
