    My boss bought some thinking the same. I hooked 10 feet up and stood on one foot to step on the vacuum switch and instantly became freaked out and had to gain my balance before I could make the same move to turn it off. It screamed so loud with harmonics that it could make it a pain to burglars inside when tripping the alarm. The rough insides make for poor airflow as well. Do you remember the whirling noisemaker toy? I took 20 feet of this lightweight hose outside to a street party, cleared the street from curb to curb and began whirling it over my head. A UFO came down and hovered over us, or so it seemed. I will pass on this for hose.

    Nice video. The problem is the company has doubled the price of the hose in the year and a half since you posted the video. OUCH! So it's not as good of a deal as it use to be. But thanks for your post. 👍

    I am using exactly the same hose.
    We used to have an above ground pool. When we sold it I kept this hose as one of the ends was broken.
    I had intended on using it for snorkels on my ATV but never did.
    I made a 5 gallon bucket dust seperator. Put the shop vac in my shop attic and used this hose to connect the two and a couple of pieces for my table saw and miter saw. It works great.

      I fell into this trap as well... Bought a sump pump hose instead of a shop vac hose. The best way to get rid of the sound is to pour wood glue in the hose and let it harden, eliminating the high pitch sound.

      They are holding up very well. I also ended up getting the hose from Bosch/Cen-Tec and they are very comparable. The one thing I notice is that the pool hose is stiffer. It could be a good or bad thing for your particular needs.

      Yes, most hoses are not anti-static, but that’s why some hoses are really expensive like the Festool hoses. You didn’t mention static so not sure if it’s an issue for you or not and also not sure if the pool hose was anti-static or not.

    • @chicagohandyman

      Probably not. The cyclone separator works for people with really power shop vacs that have to double up their buckets because it will otherwise get crushed in.

    it sucks that when we try to attach a hose that’s supposed to be a standard size in this country it seems to never fit and we always need an adapter. how many times do they say 2 1/4”, or 4” or 6” and when you connect them the need for. just stupid.
    anyway, i might be putting my shop vac in my shed that’s approximately 10 feee from my house and that pool hose will come in handy to reach a lot of tools.
    having a shop vac in a shed so you can’t head it is something we should all do.
    thanks for your video.

    • @chicagohandyman
      @chicagohandyman  4 года назад

      Still happy with my pool hose as a shop vac hose. From using it for 1.5 years so far..... bc I was in a double garage, I had to loop the hose a bit to “shorten” it. The loops occasionally caused clogs in the hose. So I actually cut 9’ of it off. Now there’s no loops, but enough length to get everywhere in my garage it needs to. And works better too. If your run from the shed is relatively straight, you should be good. I would avoid turns as much as possible.

    • @ginoasci2876
      @ginoasci2876 4 года назад

      Tundra, Tools, and Tech:
      avoid turns, got it.
      i’m planning on a remote controlled on/off thein separator with a 32 gallon barrel in the shed so i don’t have to listen to the noise, and maybe even soundproof the shed.
      then use 4” from the shed to the house. approx 10 feet, then use that pool hose inside my basement.
      you having a double garage is ideal. i bet you live in there.

      Certain cheap hoses make a whistling noise. This pool hose does not.

    • @ericyoung772
      @ericyoung772 Месяц назад

      I purchased a 24 foot 1.5 inch sump hose to attach to a shop vac to help vacuum up attic mouse droppings. Much cheaper than a vacuum hose of same length but it did whistle like a jet engine. Followed other You Tuber's Solution and took a length of rope (1/2 inch in my case) and inserted into hose about 10 or 15 feet. Whistle disappeared. Just drill a suitable sized hole for the rope, insert rope, secure to hose and seal hole with tape. It didn't interfere with the vacuuming that much. :)
