In this test, I hoped the V Log colors were the B cam because I liked them more, and they were..so that saved me 200 euros🎉

I just moved to the S5II this past week and this kind of collab solidifies that I'm making the right choice to the L-mount alliance from Sony. Being in this ecosystem renewed my confidence in my work.

@@whatwelearned Oh I 100% agree. I just meant that I feel a new mindset and flow with my work. Gear is NOT everything but having gear you enjoy using is still part of it all. You can make with whatever device but your gear does play a factor in your workflow.
If you are new to LUMIX and like ARRI, you might want to check out GHAlex LUTS from Emotive Color. They are the best I have used (if one likes the ARRI Alexa look).
Hey mate, I've been tempted to go to Lumix ever since the S5II came out. I have a lot of Canon gear but I did have a Lumix G85 at one point which I loved. Were you heavily invested in Sony and how did the switch go? I'd love to hear more about your thought process and how it all panned out.

Yeah same! I‘m used ro having a lot of color in everything. So seeing the skintones looking pale on the left led me to think right was LogC. Maybe color profiles aren‘t everything ;) but nice job for v-log!
If you are an Arri owner and even you were wrong in your choice of the Arri log, then that Arri log in the GH 7 might not be so accurate/ a succes.
@@1MarcVD yeah i mean they are all tools. Sure the alexa gives you much to work with but i'm sure you can match the v-log in most settings so anybody who's not looking for it won't be able to tell the difference.

I just filmed a big project with the Arri 35 and the footage is in my opinion just not comparable to smaller cameras. Just out of the Camera the footage looks so amazing, the colours and skin tones are perfect and the dynamic range is of course absolutely crazy. I didn't manage to blow out any highlights. Now seeing the Lumix is implementing similar profiles is great to see. So in the future we are able to use stuff like that on lower budgets as well.

There seems to be a little bit more information in the shadows with the ARRI LOG C3, along with the other differences you pointed out. It's always nice to have options and I hope this upgrade comes to the S5 II(X).
Arri log profile doesn’t mean you have same quality as real Arri camera. Dynamic range and beautiful image sensor, bit rate and colour science is different. We can use logc3 on S5 iix with real time Lut option . Anamorphic on Budget RUclips channel have explanation how to do it .V-log looks much better on Panasonic camera. Cheers
No one evr said that this arry lut makes gh an arri. The only thing that is promised that it is the same colors which is enough for me. Stop hating.
I’ve always been a fan of GHAlex LUTs. They look great. ARRI seems to lower the pink tones.
Honestly, I'm pretty sure Emotive Color's LogC3 is actually more accurate than the official LogC3 in the GH7, because I'm not sure they actually tweaked the profile to ''perfectly'' match an Alexa in terms of ''colors''. Just like a CST will bring your footage into the colorspace with the curve, but it won't tweak the colors for you. The GH7 doesn't have an ALEV sensor and won't react exactly the same way. We'll have to wait for the GH7's version of GHalex to get released and compare it to an Alexa, along with the official ARRI LogC3 of the GH7. To this point, nothing has been more accurate than Emotive Color. Maybe it will be similar under daylight, but I doubt GH7 LogC3 will match an Alexa under tungsten lights (especially the red tones). I believe it will just facilitate the camera matching and will not be a 1:1 match without tweaking in post. Still incredible and worth having in the camera for sure though.. don't get me wrong!

I note that Emotive Colur currently has LUTS for most recent LUMIX cameras including S5Ii and S5IIX but not G9II or of course GH7. I used their GH5 LUT for my G9. I anticipate the GH7 LUT will arrive in due course.
@@davidmultimedia2024 I should add that in a conversation with Alex Mack (the creator) he said he was working on an AI based method of harmonising white balance across the frame when mixed lighting had been used. I thought that was a valuable problem to seek to solve. I’m not sure where that endeavour stands.

at 2:50 in the footage the V-LOG had more blue saturation on the trees than the ARRI LOG which does have that subtle look you want. The s5iix has a area to activate a code in the wrench section so it should definitely come to that camera 👍🏾

Excellent!!! As a Canon shooter I really enjoyed My old Gh5 7yrs ago as a B and C cam. I may have to pick up the GH7 as a little buddy to my R6 II and R7. Phase detect will make it worthy.
The thing is... it's just a log profile...
All I'd say: V-log is designed so that you can apply the rec709 conversation and the image is fully usable without any other tweaks.
The Arri log C3 is designed more as a starting point for more colour grading to take place. I think the two lend themselves to slightly different work flows.
That being said, the roll off curve is just beautiful
it will also be available for GH6 (it says on the Panasonic website)

The Vlog look more like phone cam where the arri log looks actually like a cinema camera. Vlog is great but just compared side by side it gives me this iphone vibes

Anyone can cine match whatever log profile to ARRI in post. the whole point of this feature is that u can use unmodified ARRI viewing lut in your gh7 on set as a B cam or “crash” cam
I’ve already applied Arri Log lut when converting vlog to rec709 in FCP.
I think the log profile is just a starting point. The final result depends on what you do from there. As far as I understand this (from other videos), the Arri-log preserves the Highlights a little bit more and it is designed for a different workflow that makes it easier to match the different cameras. You don't just get the log profile you also can use a larger number of LUTs from Arri's library that are designed to work with this log profile and the workflow makes it easy to use the different cameras and the LUTs to get the matching results.
theoretically you could do this already on the s5ii with RTL, and as much as i'd love to purchase this firmware immediately to get the 'real thing' i know they probably wont release it to the FF for some time. probably not even before they announce that 3rd registered camera which is going to suck to have to wait for. hope this camera does well regardless.
Agree totally. Arri log will push GH7 to a much more successor than the GH5 already was. Why? Cause all fans of GH5 and GH6 will love the usable auto focus.
But those who start, the Brand name Arri, will be a killer argument. Open gate, PDAF, 4.2.2 Best IBIS you can buy and now even Arri log.
If I would not already like to get one to replace my GH6, I would have one for the combination of features.

5:15 Pretty much, LOG C 3, as based in pretty much all arri camera before the alexa 35 had a subtly different LOG curves at each ISO, this means that when working in an ACES or other intermediate VFX pipeline, camera reports are vital to conform all the images to the same intermediate. Arri've changed this in the alexa 35 with log c 4, c4 now uses the same exact log curve at every iso. Pretty much what lumix are saying is that as it's using log c3 800 iso, you can swich the iso during shooting without it affecting you're working
I, too, prefer less saturated colors. In a way, less saturated colors seem more realistic to me. I really would love to pick up the GH7. The new features plus the ARRI LogC3 are a fantastic combination for a filmmaking camera.
Plus, I agree that they will keep the ARRI log profile for the GH7 for now. Since, they want to sell as many as possible, it stands to reason that they don't want to cut into its sales. People will cry for it. But, they have to remember that LUMIX / Panasonic is a business. They have to do what's best for them as well.
well, it's still their sales. I on the other hand just bought a fx3, i needed a full frame, i wouldve bought an s5 if it had the arriLog

This is a great move for Lomix. Of course, I don't expect the image quality to be like Arri, but I hope it will be close enough to make many budget filmmakers happy.
Arri Log 3 comes free with DaVinci resolve, and you can use it on any camera.
I like the image of the Profile B better. Great move by Lumix. Honestly I do like to see how AF on the GH7 would perform with adapted full frame lenses via speed booster since PDAF is on the camera.
I would have really liked to have seen a comparison of the two profiles in highlight roll-off, specifically looking at colour twist.
Actually it makes no difference, you can already match log profiles in post but the GH7 can’t actually take full advantage of a log profile designed for Arris.
There is actually a difference. According to Matt at Panasonic, while at Cinegear he remarked that the dynamic range improved while shooting on Arri-logC while compared to ordinary vlog. Was it a lot? No, but there is a difference.
called cam a as being the arri footage. the slightly muted greens gave it away. it’s just a bit more filmic the way it handles saturation.
It's certainly a nice addition to have Arri LogC built into the GH7's picture profiles, but not so sure about paying for something that you can enable in post. In Resolve you can use basic color transforms to convert from V-log to any other log profile including Arri LogC, for free... Also I simply cannot see any production with a large enough budget that is using Arri as their A cam, to use a GH7 as a B cam. The only reason small sensor cameras would end up on big film sets would be to capture some BTS for the Blurays.
Can we have this in the S5iiX ASAP, please. That would be awesome. VLog, as you say, is great, but this would be a stellar option.

I think the Arri looked better, but I think you can get that by messing around with your color grader. And in the very end, story is king. I'm done looking at pixels. My work seems to do better when I use cheap camera/not care and just focus on the story.
Do you gain any dynamic range by using Arri Log C3 on the GH7?
Or is the advantage just in the color curve/color science?
And could Joe Normal off the street tell the difference between 2 different graded videos of the Panasonic V-Log L (like in the GH5) and Arri Log C3 from the GH7?

I usually CST every log profile to Arri log C from Alexa Mini using cinematch and it is true that it is a less saturated profile but the question is as well if the data recorded is Full data range or Video data range which is very important and make saturation more or less visible...and what is the data range is very important and U have contradictory info online and in arri log c from alexa mini is set to limited data range...like the S5iiX vlog bth just P4K P6K Gen 5 film got full range...it is as well to know if the full range of vlog it used or not ...very confusing I am not very good at explaining it but maybe you schould ask lumix if the footage is limited or full data range with the implementation of arri log c...sometimes it is baked in metadata and your NLE (Resolve) can reconise it but resolve can be wrong sometimes...
I don't care if the Arri Log goes to L-mount. MFT is a better choice, especially when factoring in lens sizes. The S9 highlighted how full frame is not the best idea always, and that camera would have been so much better as a MFT compact. With full frame lenses it just seemed silly. There are no shortage of indie filmmakers who still use MFT and Panasonic needs to spend more time developing the MFT format. What about a 6mm f1.7 lens? A 100mm Macro? A 17mm f1.7? And we need a return to MFT compacts and vlogging cameras with IBIS and PDAF. Those who wanted to go L-mount already migrated there, but the Panasonic core base is still MFT, and we are being neglected.
It's pretty hard to tell the difference in this test but as expected adding Log C won't make the GH7 sensor into Arri's.
It means you get the same curve as shooting at 800 ISO with an arri, across all ISO in GH7

Log profiles are not directly about color, they just effect the gamma curve.
Was a bit irritating that you focused so much on the colors referring to a log profile.
Still I hope they also implemented Arri wide gamut 3 color space with the log profile. Otherwise this would be really foolish of lumix.

Why are the darks so crushed? All the shadows are crushed. I'm not sure ARRI is going to like its name associated with average looking footage? Who will be shooting large raw log files and know how to get them to look right? Zero GH7 footage that looks like the specs say they should look.

I think this is a genius move from Lumix, I think I preferred the V-Log look personally, but this is about making it easier to match with editing Arri footage when you're using both. I can see the GH7 becoming a very popular B-cam and also an A-cam for a lot of professional video work.
Arri logC isn’t gonna do thaaat much. The ALEVIII sensor has industry leading color fidelity that’s what makes the “look”

A LUT will never make anyone a better videographer. Despite what all the influencers on RUclips might like their followers to think while they're flogging their wares.
Log profiles do not look good as they are intermediate profiles. There is zero reason to use it unless you are matching wth other cameras.
Just use ISO auto
