    don't forget to mention that you use an 800$ EQ mount with post processed images. For a person with no clue what the difference between visual and astrophotography is this video is totally misleading!

      Stick a $1700 CMOS camera on this and it is like a telescope with a telescope if you have vast wealth. Lot of people using cameras to boost their telescope capability. But, I would not call a 130ST at f/5 a beginner telescope. A 10 in cassegrain at higher focal length is running at f/10, which is nice depth of field for bird watching. A 130EQ is running at f/8 or half the light gathering of the 130ST. Stacking software is made for objects where it can fetch edges as reference points. Stacking fuzzy rings of saturn does not work from attempts I have seen. It is not stacking, it is the signal to noise ratio that is important. Low signal just introduces more noise as you stack so things stay out of focus.

      @@donaldkasper8346 not like a telescope with a telescope, its just a good cmos sensor, no optics. You could screw on a DSLR instead or mount a mobile phone camera with a cheap adapter. Learn to stack with free software. Its fun.

    Great video, I've owned this telescope for over 10 years now and seeing Saturn through it for the first time will forever be one of my best memories with it. It is an absolutely awesome beginner telescope and enables you to learn HOW to find stuff up there, don't just jump straight into a Goto mount, learn how to navigate the sky first. great vid, 100% back everything said.

    • @Danvito13
      @Danvito13 2 года назад +3

      @@capwillard9156 the astromaster 130eq is great for beginners. It has a motor to follow objects if you've aligned it properly. You will be able to see Saturn and it's rings with the optics that comes with it no problem. Don't expect science book level detail though, if you are lucky and the conditions are right, you will see a small orange circle with a ring around it. You might see the shadow of the planet on the ring which will add more definition. It is still an absolutely amazing sight to see and you never get bored of it. 100% recommend it if that's your budget. A go-to mounted telescope is more friendly for beginners, again if your budget stretches that far. Mine didn't lol but I was very happy with the astro.

    In 1973 I bought a telescope off my cousin for 20.$ it was a 300x refractor scope. We were visiting them in Tampa, Fl. For the Christmas holiday. That night I set it up in their back yard. The first sighting I ever sighted was Saturn. She saw that and started cursing me. “I’ve never been able to see a planet, and you get one on the first try.” I LMAO at her. I enjoyed it for another 5 years, then sold it to a good friend for twice what I bought it for. 🤣 I love looking up, 50 years since.

People, particularly beginner astronomers, should be taught to manage expectations and be appreciative of the scale.magnificence of what they do observe.

    Is it true that this telescope has very poor optics due to its spherical mirror which should have been parabolic ?

    • @beta_cygni1950
      @beta_cygni1950 3 года назад

      This scope was my 1st "real" scope. Its pretty good, optically speaking. It has a parabolic mirror. Its an f/5 (or about that, I think... its been a while) so it has to.
      I think the Astromaster 114 has a spherical mirror (it has a bigger f-ratio, so I guess they thought they could get away with that for a cheap scope).
      The AS130 is too heavy for the cg3 mount they pair it with. So you're going to get a lot of vibration at even medium magnifications. And the finderscope is really bad. But these are solvable (especially the finderscope issue).

    seems like a great beginner scope.
    But am i right with the thinking that this telescope is made for planetary/moon usage? Because it seems with F8,7/114mm aperture its not that great for deep sky stuff?
    I got a cheap 150/750mm F5 newton, basically the cheapest thing you get with 750mm+, and its great, still having little troubles with tracking and need to sort out problems with autoguiding (via OAG, ZWO Asi 120 Mono and PHD2), but the aperture of F5 makes it so great for deep sky/dark nebulas. Since i got already a bit experience with the 750mm telescope on a Full Frame camera and finding targets i would feel already comfortable to go for 1000mm or even 1200-1500mm, but this focal lenght with a bigger aperture is beginning to get expensive.

      Ohh, i see its basically a more modern 650-750mm newton but also a "beginner" telescope like my 2nd hand 150/750 F5.
      In the beginning of my "journey" with the 750mm telescope, i had hard problems finding anything except orion nebula (which im still using for fast orientation aslong its in sight), but i got it and now i can handle the 750mm newton with a full frame mirrorless. little bit harder to handle with a APS-C DSLR which has very dim/unusable live view, but the finder scope is just fine for well.... finding xD

    • @harrison00xXx
      @harrison00xXx 3 года назад +1

      Do you guys use Barlow adapters often with cameras? i mean just fine for small objects like planets centered in the usable part of the frame, but my experience with a friends 2" 2x barlow 55mm backfocus.... well, partially usable on APS-C DSLR and also for planets (as much 1500mm works...), but in the end i am using only 1,25" barlows instead for visual observation if i dont do astrophotography where i dont use any barlow at all, not worth the image quality problems in my case at least.

    • @Nottsboy24
      @Nottsboy24 3 года назад

      @@harrison00xXx for planetary captures I use a 'Televue Extender' with a 8mm eyepiece and a Astro Modified DSLR camera. How it works is the 8mm eyepiece slots into the Visual Back on the telescope, the Televue Extender then screws over the eyepiece on the threads, the other end of the extender then screws onto the T-ring on the DSLR camera. The camera sensor chip now acts as the prime focus because the image is projected onto it. By doing this method you are gathering more data in relation to resolution and and a sharper image when processing it 👓🎓🔭

    I am a beginner and planning to buy one. But can anyone elaborate, why every telescope starting from hundred to thousands of bucks ... is a BEGINNER TELESCOPE?

    Do you think that it would be a good telescope to start with? Maybe some little astrophotograpyy too? Ty

    How's the mount of astromaster 130eq? is it shaky or not

    I have once seen M3 globular cluster with 130eq. Thought it was very very faint to observe. Can anybody tell me if they can so that I can be 100% sure.

    Is it possible to see galaxies with this telescope?

    • @UraniumConsumer

      Yes, but it would probably have to be a brighter galaxy such as andromeda if you wanted to see it visually

      @Hugh Mass-stiff 2D image? You’re just seeing what’s there in the night sky magnified my friend. What are you talking about? It’ll be faint but visible. It’s a Galaxy. There’s no doubt about that, unless you can scientifically explain why it isn’t with sources and independent experiments to go with it.

      Andromeda galaxy (M31) is a nice target with this telescope. With a 8mm eyepiece this galaxy fills the entire field of view. I can see M31 with M32 and M110 all in the same view. You will see the center bulge but not the spiral arms, as they are too dim. My observations were made under a suburban sky (bortle scale 5 and no Moon).
