Fun Fact.. well at least for me.. My Grandfather was the engineer that created the Hydraulic landing gear for aircraft.. His name is William Ryan, He is in the San Diego engineering history museum. He was also a part of engineering the Spirit of St louis.. Me on the other hand can't change my own oil...
At least you can leave a funny comment on RUclips and for this, I give you the Internet of the Day award! 😁😉
🤣🤣never mind, I'm sure you have a quality that many wish they weren't lacking in 👍
@@MEGAMIGA Really.. look it up, it's easy to google. I agree anyone can make outrageous claims on the internet. But the truth is that someone invented Hydraulic landing gear for aircraft.. And it's a fact that they do have descendants. Take it for what you want... Believe what you want. If I were going to lie it sure wouldn't be about Hydraulic engineering
@@martindunstan8043 Uh.. Ok whatever that means
@blrenx it means, although you put yourself down I'm sure you do have a quality in you that someone wished they had. It is a compliment.
His callouts back to the traffic controller was really impressive. Great job by a great pilot.
Amen
It's 2024 (well when this comment was created) and it still baffles me that every car has a backup camera yet large aircraft don't have cameras showing engines, wingtips, landing gear, empennage and other exterior parts of the aircraft. I mean how hard would that be?
Weight and complexity limitations, remember every thingamajaw you put on have to have 3 backups or so and a lot of cables, whereas in a car you can just use 2-3 thin wires
So agree, they've gotta at least have cameras that show the cabin behind them
I love the professionalism of the pilot's radio conversation over what to do.
i rember this i was in a bar with other people and this was on tv every body stop what they were doing and watch this unfold and we all cheer when the pilot brought the in for a safe landing
Same, but in the DLI mess hall in Monterey. Hundreds of us done with dinner, but not leaving the tv until we saw the result
It's surprising that the QRH didn't suggest the breaker. Great job to the flight crew on both flights.
Possibly open breakers, should be included on all emergency checklists, along with a list off ALL affected functions.
The more breakers in the design, the less affect they have on peripheral functions, but the harder they become to find.
Mentour Pilot covered this incident in more detail. An engineer told them on the radio to go back and check/reset the F-6 circuit breaker, which wasn't popped. Unfortunately the copilot didn't noticed that the A-1 breaker in the bottom left corner, 30cm away, had popped. The A-1 breaker provided power to "BAT BUS DISTR" which included the alternate gear extension, and probably several other things. They didn't determine if the breaker had popped on its own, or if it'd been kicked as it was so close to the floor, but they later installed a guard on this type plane to prevent kicking it.
Respect for both flight crews. Seemingly level headed and calm approach that saved the day
Jetblue is one of the safest airlines. Even if i was in that crippled plane, i would happily fly with them again.
It's not about an airline, it's about the plane itself.
@@HansTheDeutscheMenschlich. It's also about the airline. These pilots were well trained and because of their skills and airmanship, they were able to save everyone's lives. Because JetBlue train their pilots well, that makes them a safe airline.
@@vintagetriplex3728then I’ll work for JetBlue then
Me too!! And the BEST legroom.
I’m glad it was re-uploaded. I’ve seen the 2 minute clip numerous times but this is a first time for me to see this version. The whole thing 👍👍
Lol said no one ever
From Wiki: Because JetBlue planes are equipped with DirecTV satellite television, passengers on Flight 292 were able to watch live news coverage of their flight while the plane circled over the Pacific for hours. The in-flight video system was turned off "well before landing." Actress Taryn Manning was on the flight on her way to New York to promote the film Hustle & Flow. Screenwriter Zach Dean was also on the plane and, while contemplating his mortality, resolved to write a script about mortality, which eventually became the film Deadfall.
My Son just bought me airbuds and I'm still amazed at the sound quality; what I didn't expect to hear was an airplane flying over my apartment building while watching this. I don't know how low it was, but I had my arm behind my head and it was resting on the wall and I could feel the vibration from the plane. I guess these aren't noise cancelling earbuds and I wasn't expecting to hear things outside, right now I'm hearing the traffic outside which I don't normally hear and birds chirping.
I was actually holding my breath when the 2nd plane was about to land. I'm glad there were no fatalities.
Cheers from the Niagara Region 🇨🇦
But would you RECOMMEND the airbuds? I MUST know!
Ah Burbank airport. I'm reminded of Southwest Flight 1455 that, in March 2000, landed with excessive speed, overran the runway, crashed through the perimeter fence, crossed a busy thoroughfare, and came to a stop just feet from a gas station pumps. The airport wisely decided to install Engineered Materials Arrestor System at the end of the runway after that little incident.
I remember that distinctly! (I lived in LA at the time.) I was unable to recall the particulars of the flight number or the date. Thanks for helping me to revisit it on the internet.
at the Jackson hole airport a rookie pilot landed mid runway because he was so afraid of all the mountains that surround the airport--he went off the end of the runway into the dirt--nobody hurt but the airline were missing one more affirmitive action pilot after that--heard he went back to driving cab in Harlem
@@mtsky-tc6uw Doubtful, and your assumptions are wrong and unhelpful. The most publicized overrun at Jackson Hole was in 2010, when the plane landed in heavy snow overran the runway by about 700 ft. There was another incident in 2008 where a cross-wired tachometer caused the anti-skid system to fail. In fact, between 1985 to 1996, there were 11 runway excursions, prompting the airport to request extending the runway. A SAFO for Jackson Hole that mentioned between 2007-2010 there were twenty runway excursions at JAC. Finally, in 2011, A 700-foot safety overrun area was added to the south end of the runway. Still, a 2014 article by the NBAA notes that Jackson Hole Airport has the highest runway excursion/overrun rate in the country.
Is there anyway that you could please, please, please stop showing the finale of the video in the first five seconds…? It would be far more enjoyable to not see the ending first…
With an experienced crew, maintained aircraft, and capable procedures, situations such as this are survivable. Kudos to all.
I think the vocals were 'steering' not 'scaring' (from the other pilot).
yeah thats what I heard
Amazing how calm and mindful the pilot was... great job (on both flights)🙂👍 🙏
Wow! New content!! We missed you bro 🎉

I watched the landing of the Sky Blue live from a news chopper. It was a beautiful landing.
While flying in the USN(20 years) I was taught to NEVER cycle the gear to get an 'UP"...Granted, these guys didn't have an unsafe up...but did their checklist say to cycle the gear?
Hey shipmate! I spent 15 years as a corpsman. Nice to see a fellow sailor! 🫡 Cheers mate. 😎👊🏻 What did you fly? Were you carrier based? (If applicable)

The original creator would still be leaving pertinent info at the end of the video. It leaves me thinking that there IS a different owner. I just wish that the original creator would have told us that he was leaving.
how does he get the traffic to match the time era?
For Example in the video about the Hughes Airwest cash and PSA 182
i remember the jet blue incident. the flight crew were regarded as heroes. good vid.
So apparently A320, B737, B757 can't dump fuel.
A330 & B767 may, depending if the option was ordered.
A340, A350, B747, B777, B787 can dump fuel.
It’s like to do this every day. Unbelievable! Incredible job!
I remember when this happened and I was thinking that the news people were making it sound like it was going to auger in.
Popped circuit breaker…wow
The popped breaker was in the bottom-most breaker row, at the end, at foot level. From the investigation, it sounds like they suspect someone kicked it as subsequently they installed a little rail to prevent that on other planes.
Well..the FO should have seen something in the checklist about a circuit breaker.
I never understood why landing with no gear on asphalt is better than grass??
@JoeBlow-sn1cm your too dum to know anyway
@JoeBlow-sn1cm Why is that a stupid question. I have wondered the same question. I assume there are other viewers who are not pilots.
@JoeBlow-sn1cmNo, it is not good enough for me. Apparently, you don't know the answer either.
My (non-pilot, non-engineer) guess would be that: a) asphalt provides far more friction to slow the plane down; and b) asphalt is a smooth solid surface, whereas under the grass there can be rocks, gaps in the ground, and other issues that could cause trouble (and might not be visible, although at that point swerving isn't an option anyway).
So why dont they go through the dirt and grass beforehand and check for rocks or dump new dirt or sand or something and even it out? They can do these things especially on an airport budget, I figure asphalt is gonna cause more sparks than soft dirt and grass, I think dirt and mud would provide better friction than solid asphalt
Is this a re-upload?
SERIOUS Tip of my hat and HUGE KUDOS to the CaptaIn. AWESOMELY PHENOMENAL JOB WELL DONE !!!

Hydraulics actually played a factor in both flights!

Where did the -16’s come from? Poland doesn’t operate them?
Poland's now part of NATO, with an economy strong enough to afford obsolescent, American war-materiel.
Is it not possible to put the plane into a dive and then suddenly pull up and try the landing gear, maybe the extra g forces pulling down might help get the gear down??
Salute to those pilots 🫡
@JoeBlow-sn1cm oops, rip

What happened with the LOT?
They turned it into an Airbnb.
@@sarahalbers5555 Yeah right. What happened when the LOT landed. The video just ends and no any info how the landing went, if there were casualties, injuries etc.
They should be able to have cameras around the damn plane to see for the pilot.
Please make a remake of Swissair Flight 111
Well, looks like no one was killed or injured in either of these events......so kudos to the pilots, the crew and the passengers for keeping cool in an intense situation. Secondly, I don't know, one would think that access to these areas for the landing gear would be available while they are enclosed in the plane to be able to understand or simply try to repair or fix while in flight.....I feel like these pilots or crew don't have that kind of access and also, there appears to be a limited Plan B or C for when landing gear gets compromised......I think rather ridiculous that this is the case considering the importance of it and also perhaps that access to it while it's enclosed would be terribly dangerous, then again, what do I know........I think the 2nd plane in this vid probably had to be trashed after seeing that landing.......whereas the first plane most likely was easily repaired and the plane was put back into service pretty easily.........

Stay home and never go out.
You need to proofread what is being said, too many bad grammatical errors.
Even if it's a rerun I'll take that rather than go without a video for a week.
Why dont aircraft come with cameras underneath so they can see their own gear? I know the towers can have a look, but really? Get cameras so pilots can see whats going on.
Why wouldn't they just fly all the way to New York and do the landing there? Either way they were gonna have to do this kind of landing. Might as well save the passengers all that time.

I have a few things to say here, both to the creator and the viewers.
1. (to the creator) Just note that if you keep reuploading older episodes, people are just gonna unsubscribe from you. I might even unsubscribe if this keeps happening.
2. If you all are getting tired of seeing these reuploads, don’t try to ask the creator to make new episodes, as that could be stressing him out. That’s when I realized my mistake and stopped begging.
3. This channel didn’t get sold off to a new owner. If it did, said owner would have told us all in a community post.
4. For those who say he’s run out of accidents to cover, then you’re more or less wrong. He still hasn’t covered the deadliest mid-air collision, the deadliest airliner bombing, and other major stuff. Try to give him some ideas if you can.
5. You should probably start uploading every 2 weeks now. You’ve been uploading every week for almost, like 5 or 6 years now, and you’re probably stressed out or you’ve lost motivation.
6. Please guys, stop telling me what to do. I know I’m not legally required to watch the videos. I get that! But I still watch them for old time’s sake.
7. I’m very sorry if I called anyone out. I didn’t mean to make fun of anyone, especially the creator. I just wanted to clarify a few things. I’m also sorry that you had to read all of this and that I wasted your time.
