Then we would have illegal drugs for it

Please don't stress too much! All of us are here because we're enthralled by your storytelling ability and draftsmanship and we're here for the ride. Continue at your own pace and for as long as you enjoy doing it we will too : )
Indeed! The growing subscriber count makes you do some changes, like not being able to keep up with every comment anymore. It also doesn't make you change other things, you don't have to change your update schedule or even have such a thing, and it doesn't mean you need to make a different length of video. Nor do you have to change, nor keep making the same type of videos that gathered the audience.
It's all up to you monstergarden, please remember that you are appreciated however you choose to run your own channel, and please do not stress out if you don't want to. Cheers!
Maybe it would be more efficient to give priority to those comments more liked or those that get more answers.
isnt this in ragna crimson? humans who have great magical abilities sometimes have mutations
yeee
Yeah monster man, garden boy if u willI! You’re clearly sincere enough in your art and your appreciation of the people that love said art that I don’t think it’s necessary to read every comment, and definitely not EVERY comment. I think you should focus on spending your well earned time and effort on artwork that we all enjoy, and / or spending more time interacting in your discord community to have better feedback and closer one to one communication with your fans if that’s what you’re looking for.
i like how this gives people a reason to not learn magic, because let's be honest, in a world where magic doesn't have a down side it's hard to justify why wouldn't basically everyone know how to use it
Why doesn't everyone learn to write code?
@@miladragon because as useful as it is, it’s not nearly on the same level of practicality as being able to start a campfire from nowhere, levitating things around to do your chores or flying to places. Coding is also relatively new, so older people are very unlikely to pick it up
@@skkadoot9533 It's also pretty damn difficult for a lot of people. And a lot of the things that are very useful have a pretty high bar to entry.
@@miladragon Because it's a very specific skill which, despite what snooty nerds on the internet say, isn't that usefull in day-to-day life. It's only useful if you use computers in a certain way (though it can be fun to make your own programs and models) and knowing how to code doesn't make you a programmer any more than fixing your own car makes you a mechanic
In worlds where magic has no downside, it'll probably be like reading and writing, something everyone learns and ought to know lest they're at a massive disadvantage compated to the rest of society
@@mynamejeff3545 "Isn't that useful in day-to-day life" absolutely spot on, and this is coming from a guy who is completely beyond obsessed with making and programming computers. I do it for hours and hours and hours without stopping, and still, most things I do don't require programming. But of course, I don't know everybody; maybe there is someone out there for whom it is very useful in day-to-day life, but I can't really tell ya.
Reminds me of Dorohedoro's magic system a bit, as in, people in that story have an organ that produces a black smoke that can be emitted from their mouth or hand.
This video came up to watch next after watching a dorohedoro video. I assumed they were related
yup that's what I thought its kinda similar
Do they go into drawbacks in the manga? I haven't read it yet but it seems lowkey limitless rn (but i doubt it). The author seems cautious and more grounded with their approach to innate capabilities.
Every magic user has a weak point that causes their magic to stop working, but other than that it mostly goes into ways that magic is amplified. I don't recall any direct downsides to using magic. Though you need a Devil Tumor in the first place to do it. @@stonecat676
@@stonecat676 Not really, there's only things like total smoke capacity and volume of output.
This honestly sounds like a really realistic magic world, where medieval mages do really dumb things with magic that later generations will look back on like we do blood-letting.
I mean is it really that dumb like any technology or practice it has to evolve so obviously it’s going to be crude
I'm saying like from the perspective of future generations. They'll wonder why old mages magically irradiated themselves and why they let the waste products enter their bloodstreams when with hindsight the safety protocols are obvious. @@Lumberjack_king

I was talking to my mom about your Magic system since I love discussing fantasy and sci-fi with her. When told her how cool the idea that a healer could “over-heal” she pointed out how intriguing it would be to see how a novice healer has to try not to over-heal and accidentally give you cancer and how a healer could be a great assassin, giving the target a tumor one day and the target discovering they have a terminal illness months later.
Don't want to pop your bubble but there is a book series that had something on that line (the cells will either turn cancerous or explode) I can't remember exactly the premise of the book was either pirate airships or something dealing with a red flower
@@benoliver5593 All good ideas are repeated sometimes. Otherwise they're not the best.
I have not a clue about any of this. I have heard that healing spells could actually harm the undead.
One of my own planned works features biologically enhanced slave soldiers with super regeneration but it’s a carefully controlled science and certain hormone imbalances can cause the regenerative abilities to turn horribly cancerous
@@homicidal_duck the proving ground never ends.
I like how mages getting larger with years of practised is the opposite of an old hunched over mage that's barely a meter tall
That would make the concept of a small, 1 meter tall old master mage, really scary.
@IvoryShard that idea is inspiring. Maybe I'll do a system where magic makes you gradually shrink. Mana could be literally pumped through your bloodstream and channeling to your fingers or into a focus that's held in your hands. So the shorter someone is, the less work their heart needs to do to distribute that mana and therefore the more spells they can cast and the more potential those spells can be
@@jackoster7115Reminds me of a certain green alien Jedi
bro a game with a magic system like this would be SICK ASF, imagine an mmorpg where every decision can greatly change your path, the type of magic you use comes with certain downsides and it effects how you look visually (every one would look different)
Try to make this game and you will see why it wouldn’t work.
@@pabloduarte4470 I understand it wouldn't work but you cant tell me that wouldn't be cool
@@pabloduarte4470 I don't see why a game where the type of magic you use has downsides and impacts the look of your character, wouldn't be able to work lol.
@@pabloduarte4470
Isnt this technically just Biomutant though?
I can see the issues itll have in an mmorpg, but as a single player game it is entirely feasible.
@@pabloduarte4470 and why would it not work
hell this could simply be a skyrim mod and make some sense
cast too much magic too fast and run out of mana? cast more spells anyway at cost of your health gaining a grey and black edge, lowering your hp and stamina for a time and removing your ability to regain mana normally until your body can rid itself of the "tar"
cast a lot of the same class of spell? (such as fire, ice, lightning, conjuration, etc) your body starts to gain effects (which are chosen through rng) based around those spells while also making those spells stronger and the opposing class of magic weaker (fire favoritism makes ice weaker and vice versa for an example)
it could very well work, maybe not as its own game based around the system but as an addition to a bigger game yes 100% it can, would, will and probably does work
As a medical student, the way you've structured magic to reflect in bodily changes tickles a very specific part of my brain. I'm diagnosing your mages as I watch! 😂 Acromegaly, splenomegaly, sepsis secondary to indwelling venous catheter (a possible side effect of your inputs), Hodgkin Lymphoma, acute kidney injury secondary to Tar excess (Taremia? As in too much tar in the blood?), chronic kidney injury, maybe "taremia" can cause skin changes like jaundice does, and even accumulate in the brain? Melanoma or squamous cell carcinomas developing from magically healed skin, osteosarcoma as a natural consequence of young mages' long bones growing too long, too fast, etc.
What a fascinating rabbit hole you've got here. Thank you for sharing.
I love when people mix science with a bit of magic it just creates something more interesting
Accumulation of magic waste in brain tissue can explain "weird" behaviour of older mages
@@evildeadspace and the skin and eye changes reflect the sickly appearances of some mages like necromancers
Pfft it's fine, we'll have healers for that..
> osteosarcoma as a natural consequence of young mages' long bones growing too long, too fast, etc.
ah, so that's why mages don't wear heavy armor and are considered physically weak! Now we have a connection to the traditional rpg mages!
I think it would be cool if Manamorphosis is how the magical races of the world arose, if a specific magical tradition is wide spread enough, and if enough of the practitioners reproduce with each other, their descendants will slowly be able to cast their brand of magic without implants, and eventually, they’ll be changed enough that they qualify as an entirely different species than humans.
Really cool idea, though having some magical races be human off-shoots and some having been deliberately created or having evolved independently seems cool. Have different races have a variety of different origins rather than have them all spring from a singular source.
Might be what the dwarves Are.
Their bodies Are unnaturall And have patterns all over them so they Are probably naturaly magical.
This also feels like a way to get a bunch of unique races within a species so you avoid the thing where an entire fantasy species is expected to have the same culture and physical appearance despite being widespread across the world.
Yeah- personally like the idea of physical adaptations due to magic irradiation- thats part of why humans in my own stories all got pointy ears- that and my humans aren’t technically humans, because they share a common ancestor with domestic cats-
That is still a mystery.
That is... dorohedoro.
Very intriguing idea, with some dark implications. Young mages can't tolerate much tar, but you never said they were less able to channel mana, there could be a zealous faction that hooks up young mages to collectors that are far too large and essentially turns them into disposable artillery.
Now I'm imagining a magic battery, using mages to power magic artifacts, either voluntarily or against their will.
@@ryukireii You should read "The War of the Flowers" by Tad Williams.
@@ryukireii I'm also wondering what a (voluntary) magic battery mage would look like. Potentially you could also see "Wire Mages" who have EXTREMELY long multi-folded arms (like, 20 metres long) to power magical devices from a single mana battery source in a military situation!
Giving me Fate flashbacks (Apocrypha in particular).
That could add a dark but somewhat of a more realistic approach in the way it’s displayed and said in this comment
The idea of "metamorphosis" reminds me of Chaos and the winds of magic from Warhammer Fantasy. Even "good" wizards are physically and mentally changed be whatever magic they use. Chaos sorcerors mutate all the time. I always like the idea of "neutral" chaos, which is not inherently evil, but also makes people mutate drastically.
I remember the Chaos ships that are so old and beat up, they fix em with their own flesh. Flesh and blood and their mutations do play a big part in their powers.
I think he said "manamorphosis", not "metamorphosis"
@@arguably8390 their limbs are physically changing overtime; metamorphosis still describes what is occurring and "manamorphosis" seems to be a play on words for "mana metamorphosis"

You know the world building is godly when you start to question whether it's madness or brilliance. Always loved authors and writers who definitely get lost in the sauce.
i've found that madness and brilliance tend to come in a package deal lol
Many geniuses, be they of the sciences or humanities, weren't entirely sane. So either or really fits.
@@SolarMonolith206 I’ve always thought (once past a certain point) the higher your IQ goes, you start sacrificing other things 😂 like those super smart geniuses who are extremely book smart but are mad autistic
We all have the capability's of this, Its just the way the world is balanced that we never pursue them. Its the similar to the way when someone is so good at something, Leagues head of their peers, They become bored and never reach their full potential. In this case, You limit your thinking, expect results to fast, and may even get bored. Along with thinking because you created the world, It's yours to do as you please with it. No. The rules you set are consistent and unchanging. Just like that, You become immersed with your own creation. Any changes you would make, Are different rules which mix up a whole bunch of other things. Which gets you interested even more.
@@SolarMonolith206 yup Gödel went a insane after submitting his masterwork that is the incompleteness theorem. The idea of looking at the “bottom” of mathematics and then seeing an comprehending the hole in it gives me shivers. I imagine it’d be like looking for the Holy Grail only to find the devil’s drinking cup.
This video certainly inspired me. I thought too little about negative effects on appearance. Reminds me of how Dark-side Force users get and how greasy Snape’s hair was possibly from all his potioneering.
The fact that magic user’s slowly change because of their magic gaining an extra organ and have actual physical reprocussions that are visible to regular biology, instead of it just being physical exhaustion, low mana or some kind of damage to a magical circuit or something really interests me.
This magic system is actually a lot more versatile and intricate than I thought. The idea of Magic essentially being a resource is interesting, and I like how you factored in the various effects it can have on those who use it. Same goes for the idea that Mana seems to be attracted to repeating patterns. It makes me wonder if certain animals can take advantage of this since many have repeating patterns on their bodies, like the spots on a cheetah or the scutes on a turtle's shell. The Tar Eye also explains how the Rat Catcher extracts Tar from bodies since that's probably where the Tar goes when it's filtered out of the blood. The input and output system is pretty ingenious and can be surprisingly versatile if used right. I actually have some mental concepts for magic weapons that use inputs and outputs in a similar way to Mages, but without the bodily augmentations. This method of magic usage would negate the risks of Tar buildup and manamorphosis, even if the resulting spells aren't as potent as those cast by a mage. People who use this method also wouldn't be called Mages, since they would lack the bodily augmentations and alterations that Mages are known for. A more appropriate term would be Artificers.
Overall, this magic system is one of the biggest highlights for the Monster Garden. Also, don't stress about interaction too much. In the end, you're here to do what you love to do, and we're here to see what you come up with next.
"Technically you could kill someone if you healed them too aggressively"

that line really piqued my interest, do you mind elaborating on your system?
@@digitaldritten are you asking me, or the creator of the video?
@@ava2194 I'd like to know about yours
@@shiromaboiii1019 My system is a bit complex and still being developed of course, but it primarily focuses on channeling intentions and interacting with the "spirit" that inhabits all things.
When it comes to healing, it's not just cause and effect, it depends on where that healing intention is coming from, and the actual "intent" behind it.
There is a healer in the setting who starts off being very well known for their abilities, but starts losing those abilities when they begin healing out of a sense of pride, almost a god complex. It stops being about mending wounds, and starts being about the recognition for mending the wounds.. and so the act of healing becomes foreign to the healer, as their "intent" is muddied.
The actual process of healing, just like using magic at all in the setting, is walking a fine knife's edge. A caster would have to balance physical knowledge (so things like actual physics/chemistry apply) spiritual knowledge (the ways that the physical world "exist" and the intent that it carries with it) and their capacity to convey, and understand what the world tells them.
All while essentially on a timer, since once you start a casting you aren't ever in full control over it, and letting it go without a guide could have all kinds of unintended consequences when amplifying the natural intentions of the world around you.
In the setting, anyone can cast so long as they find a way to reach out to the "flow" of energies within everything, and so casting and magic use takes many forms.
(It also has two base forms which act almost entirely differently!)
Am i the only getting flashbacks of a specific Person who is doing this on a daily base

this rocks, I love the concept of magic mutating people, what about insect and animal that evolve with natural patterns on them that allow special abilities, like a bird that can become invisible, or a teleporting frog that cant jump. trees that when fully grown are a doorway to another place. roadways that have a pattern on them that makes travel faster. i mean if you are making patterns be what makes magic possible, then mages would use those patterns everywhere, in all aspects of life, this sounds like the beginning of a magicpunk world, and i love it. you gained a new subscriber
im writing a little bit of a story myself with a magic system im pretty happy about. in short magic is cast through circuit like tattoos that are drawn or etched onto the skin. most normal people have a couple small tattoos for basic magic like communication spells where as great mages are covered head to toe in spells and some even have extra appendages to store more spells. having all your spells on your skin means that the arms race for magic involves drawing smaller and more intricate tattoos and hiding your skin the best so that other mages cannot see it.
This sounds so cool! I could see a fantasy setting with a cyberpunk/dystopian vibe with this idea :)
I always love it when people combine magic and tattoos. I do it all the time.
If this exists in the same world as the dwarves, could the swirly repeating pattern on the carapace of the dwarves act as a naturally occurring inputs? Thereby giving the dwarves their innate magic nature given to them in most lore?
This fits really well together, and the notes in that video mentions The Maker, who Dwarves believe is their common origin. The swirls could be how The Maker gave them life, infusing stone with magic to transmute it into flesh, blood and carapace.
I also thought that maybe Dwarves aren't buried like humans would be, but rather, integrated into architecture in their compact forms. So buildings of significance like temples and clan fortresses literally have the ancestors watching over their descendants.

And the magic comes out of their mouths.
I’m trying to make one of my own, so I figured watching this would help me out. Instead of making magic a gift, I decided to make it a skill; anyone can learn and cast magic, but frequent practice is required to become adept
This is really similar to how the old Fable games would approach magic systems. Actions and lifestyles would morph the character into something different. Magic users slowly gain colorful rune patterns and aura through their veins. Their eye color would change, and they would glow when casting. Similarly, using ranged weapons would cause a Hero's glands to make them grow taller, to help with vision. That kind of worldbuilding in a game was always super intriguing as there was reasoning why a Hero was different from others.

No other words than genius really, this all looks insanely good
There’s 2 magic systems I’ve always wanted to see. A world where it’s naturally evolved and society reflects that (houses stacked on top of each other because everyone can fly and steps aren’t needed) or mana being a fluid that you have to inject with ivs almost like bioshocks plasmids
LOOOOOVE the idea of restoration magic being able to kill by healing too much and forming tumors, such a neat idea! also shape influencing the flow and effect of the magic is super neat
Please don't worry about the attention, we aren't starved of content, we will find other videos and we (the bunch the algorithm favoured) are likely people who enjoy creative quality-content.
Your whole channel is designed around creativity so sticking to a strict schedule or regular uploads might actually hurt you because you might feel like you have to force ideas - instead try getting more out of the awesome ideas you have and elongate the videos.
You are tapping into a genius territory right there, you are improving an oversaturated genre that many people enjoy, which does have dry-sucked tropes though.
Please just stick to the way you do your videos, many of us would appreciate being able to listen to you for 10 to 15 minutes talking about designs and inspirations but just keep in mind that your videos shouldn't be forced by the higher "demand" and I recommend not looking into the algorithm and the possible things that "improve your visibility" - nobody truly knows what the algorithm likes and how it works, just stay consistent.
I expect you to make great strides so please just enjoy the ride and smile back at the crowd smiling at you, instead of growing nervous or feeling burdened :)

Not gonan lie. Im rarely jealous of anything, but your ability to build a world, tell stories and draw is insane. The whole idea of how magic works in this universe allows for a really interesting, at times probably really brutal story, just because its way closer to reality than your typical magic story. Don’t stress too much, this channel is a goldmine for creative writing inspiration and I think that we the viewers can agree that we would rather have longevity than frequency or even consistency of uploads. It usually takes me a couple weeks to digest a video that I see on your channel and complete whatever element of whatever fantasy worldbuikding that it inspired me to create, so don’t worry too much.
P.S. my creative writing is merely my own creative outlet, im not plagiarizing your work and I’m certainly not earning anything from that, your content is just a wonderful source of inspiration for the things that I may venture towards doing.

Don't let the stress of it all get to you. It's inevitable that when a creator grows large enough they are more disconnected from their audience because there's more of an audience. I like the idea of re-inventing what a Necromancer is with this system.
They try to 'outsource' the mana process, using various forms of living 'batteries', anything from recycled organs made into a new biological machine of sorts; or in more extreme instances, infants or animals.
Portability is also an issue though. And because Necromancy is far newer and more experimental than most magic systems in the world, there is much more variety and chaotic nature in their designs. Some have belts of bizarre abstract balls of flesh and organs, others carry warped child-like beings on their backs. Some lead packs of horrific animals and some have huge wagon carts with nightmarish cages of flesh and organ - little more than gigantic meat 'cubes' being dragged around by horse; but allowing for massive magical outputs.
They're seen as cowards by all other mages, which is not entirely unjustified. Necromancers outsource mana because of their fear of their bodies changing in undesired ways, to them the Tar Eye is not 'natural', as people are not innately born with it. And yet they warp the lives of others to play with mana never the less; their morals and ethics in constant flux.
The only part I cannot bridge is whether or not consciousness is a requirement of spell casting - if so, what is the cost/consequence the Necromancer has to overcome there (especially since at the core of their beliefs, that consequence cannot involve modifying their own bodies)? Maybe their defining piece of equipment is a brain-in-a-jar of sorts? With rudimentary inputs that allow the necromancer to program it to consciously cast a spell (albeit with a delay compared to a normal mage). Necromancers would then be glass canons - capable of huge magic output, but take out their battery or brain-jar, and they are screwed.
It ALWAYS amazes me how many great youtube channels there are I have yet to discover, this definitely one of them
holy shit man, not just your drawings being absolutely astonishing, but the ideas you have for your systems and how it works with your visually artistic talent makes this so incredible.
Some of the drawings I've seen reminded me of All tomorrows illustrations, with the same type of eerie feelings surrounding them, truly love them, very excited to see where all of this goes.
Absolutely love it! The smoke coming out of the fire mages face is so ominous and intimidating. Your world building is incredible
Thank you, i really have to finish off that character cuz i did find it to be a cool idea.
@@monlenz please do! I look forward to it. No rush though please go at your own pace 🙂
how do they see though?
@@monlenz it would look like titan steam.
This is an amazing idea, designing your own magic system. I might go design my own little magical world over the summer! I love the idea of there being bodily changes with the effects of magic. This is really cool and I’ll have to check out more of your videos! Your art is phenomenal, I love the medical look of this piece. Astounding!
This sounds like a really cool magic system it has a way to visually implant itself into the world with all the repeating patterns and spiral shapes as well as physical changes to a person that uses magic
I just finished binge watching all of your uploads. Your work is beyond incredible. I can't wait to see more of your amazing art
I love this so much, I can just Imagine a Ferromancer with huge deposits of metal all over their body. Also the acceleration mage is amazing, such an amazing idea! Honestly cannot give this enough praise!
Bruh, that's similar to the magic system and anatomy of magic users in Dorohedoro.
Death by aggressive healing sounds horrible and I love it
I must say that after your dwarf video I fell in love with the attention you give to even the smallest details and with how willing you are to push past the "conventions" of worldbuilding. As an aspiring writer it is really motivating to see others put so much passion in their work.
It would be cool to see a human who decided to attach parts of mages to themselves in a frankenstein-esque way in an attempt to capture the ability to produce magic. Also, you deserve all of the attention that you’re getting ❤ this is incredible work
cool idea!
maybe they try to implant an old mage's tareye
"Forefathers, one and all..........BEAR WITNESS!!!!"
If you like manga I recommend Dorohedoro, without spoiling too much it has an interesting magic system.
@@BombaJead I love Dorohedoro actually
i was searching for content on how to improve my own magic system and saw the anatomy in the thumbnail and had to click. i was certainly not disappointed, you have wonderfully incredible concepts and an absolutely amazing art style!
Your creative process is so interesting. I love the how so many visuals have meaning. It makes the world feel more real and deep
I loved your anatomically correct drawings as a medicine student haha, just a little info, your implants reminded me a lot to ports, that are usually used in chemotherapy to have a permenant central exes below your skin, usually going under the dermis to big veins like the vena subclavia and vena jugularis so they are closer to the hearts :) so this ports are usually located on the upper chest :D
the spots you choose would be anatomically much harder to excess and a lot more peripheral which meens the veins are much smaller and easier to break/clod :D
So maybe consider reposition your implants, if you feel like its a cool extra info or detail you liked.
Obviously this is such a small unimportant detail and your art is awesome the way it is and also makes sense but I wanted to share it with you because you showed a big level of details in every work you do :D
This ^^^^ is the type of stuff my guy was talking about the reading the comments things. Amazing and extremely difficult to come across insight, thanks for sharing!
@@gara8142 thanks! I’m glad it came out as I intended just to be a little thought that his design inspired and nothing more :D I have no hope that he reads this, as I came in a little late to the party, but it’s cool that people find this interesting :D
Where would be the best place to put the input do you think? Somewhere that also wouldn't cause too much discomfort
@@monlenz mmmh the three common spots for long term central catheters would be in the jugular vein (on the front of your neck) the subclavial vein (beneath the clavicula) or the femoral vein (in the groin area). I think the subclavial vein would be the most similar to your current position and is the common used vein for these ports I described (which are a variant of central catheters). maybe the jugular vein could be more accessible and The femoral vein would be kinda uncomfortable but maybe the most protected. Maybe this is also a weakpoint in combat so you want to hide it more, or it is for some fighting styles better to have it in a reachable spot :D depends on how deep you want to go with this haha
But overall one of those locations would do. The main device could also be somewhere else, but a tube goes to these locations.
It’s very cool that you responded! I thought I was to late haha. This is obviously one of my favorite concepts from you so far, but I love every video of yours! Keep it up in your own pace!
@@ezufranzgrote5128 thank you for the advice. I will make sure to look into it and use it in my concepts.
not only your art skills are really amazing and impressive, but that creativity for storytelling through visual design is just genius
wow, this got into my fyp, AND I DO NOT regret it. I am a novel writer, and this gives inspiration to me. Being able to cast phenomenas, such as magic, should really have explanations, such as having another part of the caster's body.
Do not worry to much my dude, i find your approach makes me understand and ask better questions of my own world and I wholeheartedly thank you for that inspiration
Reminds me of Doro He Doro, one of my favorite anime's where the wizards use a dust that they produce. Some of them even get surgeries on their "glands" to produce more magic.
Dorohedoro has a really interesting magic system, the fact that done mages have magic that could be considered useless but due to the amount of dust they produce they become almost unstoppable (and the other way around) is very unique
i got 20 chapters left till i finish it today! The gland surgeries are so fucked.
@@hasturthekinginyellow5003like gyoza magic
@Hastur The King in Yellow En is my favorite example of it. You'd expect the guy with fungal magic to some dweeb not a powerful mafia boss.
@@aleksisgabliks3881 Shin is my favorite example, the dude could be a force of nature with his disassembling magic but he produces a pitiful amount of dust even after modifying himself, so he is more of a brawler than a mage
Not an artist but an amateur writer. I agree that magic users should be differentiated, but even in novels and stories and not just visually. In my own little system, magic changes the user depending on the type of magic itself (geomancy makes your skin pebbly and eventually hard like stone or straight out petrifies you if you use "strong" spells without knowing what you're doing). It makes for wonderful differentiation of characters.
Also an amateur writer (with way too many ideas) and I think such effects could present some interesting challenges if characters have the need to hide they’re magical abilities whether that be constantly if it’s that type of story or for a one-off occasion should the plot demand it
there is also another take on this: magic is very powerful and scary, and you cannot diferentiate a mage from a normal person... which means anybody could be a mage, with all the paranoia that entails
Should is way too strong of a world. If theres an in world reason for them to look different, and its the obvious outcome of what would happen, then sure it should be that way. But if not its very debatable and has quite a few downsides
In the story I'm writing right now anything can use magic as long as they have a brain that can process information. The idea is that physical processes at a fundamental level are the result of exchanges of information between systems. Brains are aware of reality by taking in information, and the more developed a brain is, the more conscious it becomes of this sea of information that regulates everything. This awareness, allowes a sufficiently complex intelligent entity to directly induce flows of information with their brain, thus conjuring physical processes out of nowhere (aka they do magic).
A magic user can therefore affect brains, either directly or indirectly, so whenever someone uses magic in my story, other people might suddenly hallucinate, like they might hear sounds that do not exist, or they might feel their skin burning despite nothing being there
This could also justify the old trope of witches being green in fairytales :D
I don’t know anything about your story yet at all, but I completely love how… raw your magic system feels. Not intuitive but not gritty or soft. Calculated. Sciency. Mana feels like a tool or recourse more than anything, like electricity or metal. I think it’s really cool
Yes, it feels less like "i casa fireball" and more like league of legends's (and arcane's) Hextech, where hextech is a resource that can be used and you build equipment that uses it.
But it feels like if the hextech was discovered not by the scientists of Piltovsr but by some random village in a desert and therefore is really rough
@@zerokun2655 this is way more unique
The fact that with a couple of clicks people around the world have access to such level of creativity is just one example of how the Internet is one of humanity's greatest achievements. Truly awesome.
Both the worst and best invention of mankind
Dude that’s actually a super awesome way of setting rules for your designs. Sadly I don’t think I’ll ever be able to think that far ahead about any of my projects but this is still rad :)
You’re so inspirational for me. I’ve been world building for years but the way you go about it is sooo cool
That dwarf video single handedly helped my get that little push I needed to create my DnD world! The algorithm was like, hey! here's this tiny channel with a few thousand subs making insanely creative stuff, and then the next day the video's got 200k views. You deserve it man. Your world and ideas are so interesting in so many ways.
Don't feel pressured into working harder because you have a larger audience, it's like one of those scenes where you see someone practicing singing all alone in a theater and they have an amazing voice only to start stuttering when they realise they have an audience...just block us out like we aren't there, do what you do and continue to sing :)!!
That is a lovely comparison and I'm glad to have read it.
I don't know if your world had gnomes but I like to imagine that one time readers will learn of a person who is human height but looks terribly malformed and it turns out that it is a gnome wizard who has been doing magic for forever
This magic system is amazing, honestly love how it justifies that not everyone would want to cast magic. Most magic systems are so non-punishing that everyone might as well learn magic, but with this system you really gotta weigh the odds and think deeply about the idea and it's worth, and have patience
only recently found your channel but my god, what you create is truely wonderful
*The design is very human*
Always having a needle jammed into your fingertip sounds like a fate worse than death.
Im absolutely in love with this concept that sorcerers arnt really the same as humans, It really reminds me of dorohedoro with how they control magic via the fingertips. this world is just stunning your growing to be one of my favorite worldbuilding projects
It has more in common with Dorohedoro than just the fingers and it's both great
I think its less they aren't humans and more transformed by the usage of magic and certain magic as he explained
That’s exactly what I was thinking!

Hey Monstergardener (if this ends up being one of the comments you're able to read) I just want you to know that you don't have to sweat replying to every comment or making your videos as polished as you possibly can!!!
We've come because you're making something pure and from the heart, and it's captivated us. Just keep making what you love; it's why we like Monstergarden, so no doubt we'll remain satisfied with whatever you create!
Nice magic system as well! It reminds me that I should flesh mine out a bit more, and inspires me to let myself get lost in the weeds if I can. Yours is grotesque and very grounded, and I think I've just discovered that I love that.
Looking forward to see where your project takes you!!!!!!
I just watched your video and I have to thank you for creating such amazing videos and art, because I think you cured my art block. I haven’t drawn anything in months, but because of your videos I stayed up till 5 am to redesign one of my old drawings.
I wanted to say thank you just for creating and with it inspiring others to do so. Please don’t stress about all of us being here, we’re happy to watch your magnificent work and the passion you put into it!
This is really cool, don’t stress about missing comments, the magic system you developed so you could get a good way to visually show magic is in depth and awesome. Keep up the good work, it’s great :)

I’m certain people have said this before, but it’s pretty rare to see anyone put so much time and effort into a beautiful, unique, and recognizable art style. These are really amazing, excellent world building and designs. You deserve all the traction you’re getting
"What are you gonna do? Heal me to death?"
"yes"
The illustrations and drafts of the magic give me untold inspirations for things I could add into some of my D&D games. You're doing great work!
As a fellow creator, I’m so glad to see your channel blow up! It was a very fast period of growth for me as well, so I get that sense of anxiety from it all. As for the comments, I usually just look at the longer ones that seem to have the most thought put into them, which is unfair to short ones, but there’s not much you can do.
Regardless, all your success is well deserved! I love worldbuilding and fantasy, and your channel really ignites that passion even more!
thank you. i just checked out your content, you have some wonderful stuff! ill subscribe to keep watching
Hey! Fresh fan here. don't stress about it! We love your art and your creative process, don't push yourself. :)
This is the first video I've seen from you and I'm loving it. The way you have magic effect the body and how you implement a limit to that magic is very interesting.
You've earned yourself a new subscriber.
bro sounds like the sweetest guy 😭🖤
Woah, I can't believe your channel was so small before the algorithm picked you up. By the time I found your video you'd already jumped to thousands, though I'm not surprised since the design and production quality of these little idea videos are fantastic! Honestly, I'd just keep making videos like normal and (if you can) ignore your newfound success. We all subscribed because we liked what we found, so no need to change! Also, with regards to reading all comments, you simply can't. Your best option for keeping engagement with your community is to search through the comments via keywords, ideally words you only mention later in the video (so you only see comments from those of us watching the entire thing).
Okay but your draftsmanship is INCREDIBLE, and back with some SOLID storytelling and world building!
Also, about the stress... don't stress about trying to "please your audience", we are here for the things YOU love to make, because we found something that resonates with us too! Your channel should be for you, to share the things you enjoy!
+1 Sub!
Also... what do you use to do your art? Procreate?
I want to know too
Actually, that doesn't matter at all. He basically sketches out everyting with solid round brush, then creates very light shadows with airbrush, you can use anything for that, that the most basic tools in graphics. If I had to guess it is Photoshop
In his prev video he uses square brush with a bit of texture to shade, but that is also pretty universal tool
I love this so much. Please take your time, this concept is amazing and I can't wait to spend years watching it come to life.
Your thought process and art style is absolutely fascinating
I love the concept of Magic changing the physiology of humans. I have thought about it before too, like runes appearing on your skin or having to be carved into your skin leaving permanent marks of your Magic. Another one is eye color changing or hair color, although these aren’t especially bad changes, just changes. I also like the idea of mana crystallizing in and on your body by Magic overuse, like a million tiny needles growing in your body ripping through everything. Now imagine people forcing others to overuse Magic and then harvest the mana crystals from dead body’s/body parts. Would be quite dark.
You just gave me a wonderful idea ... by god I love it
Very creative!
I really like the kind of body horror aspect of this magic system, reminds me a bit of Bloodborne a little. Also, don't stress yourself out over this sudden increase of popularity, your art and ideas deserve a kind of fanbase like this, but it's unreasonable to treat it like the smaller fanbase that you had before. Still, I really appreciate your dedication to hearing your fans out. I'm a big fan of what you've been doing, but if you ever need a break in the future, I and I'm sure many others would understand.
Just have to say now, I LOVE your take on the fantasy genre! The idea of Mages becoming more mutated and malformed as they use magic is really interesting. I also really love your takes on creatures such as the Dwarves, Witchhunters and the Ratcather! Also, Manamorphosis!?! How on earth did you come up with this!? You (and your team?) Are truly gifted!!!
I was looking so Long for such worldbuilding content. I Love it. Havent watched all of the Videos, but i Hope youll be able to tell some kind of stories within this worldbuilding
god this is unironically one of the most insane and fucked up magic systems I've heard of its super cool cant wait to see it get fleshed out
interestically this system makes more sence than "mainstream" magic
I don't mind hearing an 1 hour video explaining every little detail of your system. This is so cool
