@@spudvader Edit: *Whoops, it _is_ an ESP. It's drawing inspiration from the First Act DC6/DC9 however. That's a *First Act. First Act makes those really cheap kids guitars you can get at The Source or Walmart, but they have a very high end custom shop in Chicago, and they produce ridiculous instruments out of there. Matt Pike from HOF has a custom First Act nine string withe same body shape. It's strung with double courses like a twelve string guitar, but has no octave strings on the lowest three strings. Really cool sounding, and I _think_ it's the secret studio weapon for Mastodon. I believe it's layered in to create clarity on the arpeggiated bits that weave in and out of their riffs.
@@peachmelba1000 I think Mastodon's secret weapon is Drop-A in D standard i.e. Mother puncher or Where Strides The Behemoth off of Remission. Would like me one of those 9 strings :D
Having a light touch gives you a lot of room for dynamics 😉 I always use 9s with a 54 on the bottom... Perfect for D standard, drop C and AGCFAD("the Mastodon tuning")

Bill that was a great statement you said, you do not know what sounds good anymore, with so many other plugin options and IR's out there it just overloads your brain with tone confusion!Your tone sounds very good with the STL plugin!
Metal tones are easy. They’re a dime a dozen. Is anybody including these guys doing an authentic foxy 30 or some of the classic black face fender amp’s?
….Uhh alright buddy very cool you have a “crunch tone” but my wife’s boyfriend doesn’t let me play loud sounds past 6 o’clock so unless you have a fender black face Jim Crow amp and a butterscotch tele for those clean toans, I don’t really care
I really like Mastodon, but if it was to me, I would throw out all their amps, pedals and hire them a good producer. Their music has gotten really good over the years, but IMO their sound has always been sub par and unpleasant. It is literally their weakest point (although it has gotten better from their early stuff which sounded atrocious). Dirty and twangy are not my cup of tea. Obviously this is very subjective, but they are definitely one of the most unpleasant sounding bands that I listen to.
@@WindyCityNick subjective, I think their records sound stellar, all the way back to Leviathan, and even Remission sounds good in an unconventional way.
no accounting for taste I guess, but they’re worked with plenty of great producers. every record sounds different but perfect for the material. CtS especially might be the most well produced album i’ve ever heard.
Dude criticizes other guitar players for being too technical and not sounding from the heart. However this dude is plugged into more machines than Darth Vader just to get an average sound. He's not very terrible but he's not very great niether. I've heard dudes laying out some really good stuff from their guitar plugged into a shitty amp with just a lightbulb swinging above their heads in a dusty garage.
Bill always has the coolest guitars. He's got the riffs to match!
And the best growls.
Man, that double cut silverburst is boss AF! Old school Yamaha SG mojo on that one!
Agreed. Beautiful guitar.
Hell yeah it is...I want one
@@EvilE132 Would be good if ESP actually released it

I would absolutely buy that guitar if ESP put it out
You and me both
It's only available through custom order? 😔
You can always get a Yamaha SG
Man what a light touch he has. Killer.
I've heard in interviews that he uses 9's and they tune to C so I guess it's out of necessity.

I like to hear Bill talk but I wish he would've played more in this video, like with just the guitar and without the vocals and drums mixed in.
Was thinking the same!!
That guitar looks killer

Fucking love Mastodon! Their tone is massively fucking epic. The new album is phenomenal.
Will ESP ever release that double cutaway? It's a work of art
I really hope they do. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Awesome guitar!
1) Didn’t hesitate for a second to grab this pack.
2) Wouldn’t hesitate to grab one of those Silverburst Eclipse double cut either. Just saying, ESP….
Word son!!! Get on that ESP!!!!
I second this

pls let this guitar be a production model
MOJO and brains... I so enjoy their sound.. Nothing is more attractive together... ❤
first act DC is back
So when we getting that ESP?
THE RIFF LORD!!!
Forget that, I want the ESP
Downloaded for Kemper, love it! Good work
Bill is the man.
I want that Esp
Anyone remember that signature model he had with Gibson for 3 months?
Love Mastodon 🤘🏽
Can see u everywhere dude...and love Archspire too!!! Stay tech🔥
@@yattmanntatt3360 Definitely!
So, no demo sounds? Just the guy sitting in front of a screen with the plug in visible?
3:37 “…kinda ACD crunch…” I see what you did there.
Wow lol. I didn’t even realize that’s what he had said, lol. Good catch! 🙂😉
New signature esp!!??
That esp guitar is stunning.. it reminds me of the Gibson Pat Smear uses, which is some guy's signature.
trini lopez
His eyes are so close together.
Talk about that silverburst
That ESP 🤤
Tue Madsen has great kemper profiles. Go check them out
Bill always repping Kvelertak.
New to Mastodon here! What's the name of the track he plays at the beginning?
Sultan’s Curse.
Howdy pops, fill it up!
Keep seeing him using line 6 helix tho??
I forgot how old Bill is. I still think of him as the young guy with the weird rat tail mohawk and he's a 50 year old guy with cheaters on.
i can load this straight into logic pro ?
WOW🍹🤯
Sell me that guitar man!!!!
Fuck the plug in I want that guitar!!!

your mom is easy, any one can get a clean sounds just plug guitar straight into a dip, there you have it clean toan.

Dude looks away from the camera every time he says "i think it sounds great."
Очень интересно но ничего не понятно))
"tone is in the hands"
proceeds to play in a 500k studio worth of gear
The point is that playing through all that same gear, you would sound like you, not Bill.
