There's a question that has been asked tons of times by Korg Volca Keys owners, including myself.
Is there a way to make a drone with this machine? Sadly until now the answer was always: "No". In fact, it doesn't have a hold note function, and it lacks of the ability to sustain notes indefinitely.
But recently I've come across a very simple trick that changed it all. So, I decided to share this magic little hack with all of you, drone and ambient music lovers.
If you appreciate my work, please consider to leave me a like and subscribe to my channel, it makes a huge difference to me. Thank you!

Try this. Start with a blank sequence (func+all). Select a mono mode, doesn't matter what. Crank up the sustain to max. Press rec to arm the sequencer, press a note (the recording will start), and keep the note for at least 2 complete cycles. At this point you can turn the sequencer off (not only the rec state, I mean switch off the whole sequencer by turning off the play state), the drone will keep up whit absolutely no retrigger! Switch to a poly mode and play along your drone. At least in my vk it works, without any cable or external device. I have the firmware update installed, but this worked even before, If I remember correctly. Try it and please tell me if this hack works in your vk's, or I have a strange one. Kisses from Italy 💋
Sounds like another great hack, I'll test for sure. Maybe you could make a video about it! ciao e grazie
Thanks to you for your solution that actually works. Volca keys is a wonderful piece of gear, I have 3 other synthesizers but vk is really my best friend ❤
@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic ah I forgot... subscribed, of course!
@@dianamiino7391 Ho provato il tuo metodo... funziona!!! Grazie mille! Posso fare un video anche su questo metodo, citando elinkando te ovviamente?

I'm glad you found it useful! Of course you can link to my video if you upload something of your own, in fact I would really appreciate it.
@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic Ok thanks again!
Keep in touch!
This is amazing! I'm going to make a video too and of course give credit to this guy!
There is no need for this hack. Just record a note for 1-15 steps by holding it (with sustain 100%) Go to active steps and disarm the steps without a note. It has the advantage that voicemodulation (poly, unison etc.) still works. With your hack voicemodulation doesn't work because of the "freeze".😊
Hi, thank you for sharing this other hack! Actually this is the already the 2nd different method that somebody suggests me. I already made a new video that I'll post soon. Definitely making this video helped to gather many different approaches. I'll check this one too, and maybe make another video!
Creo que li volca bass se esta transformando en drone. Se bloquea y queda sonando una nota.el secuenciador obsoleto, las perillas analogicas andan
❤🙂
Great to know. Thank you! However when I tried to record one note I found there is no pause, even I did not input the sync cable...
I understand. The sequencer re triggers the note every time, but with the right setting of attack and release (maybe a bit of delay too) it can be masked. With the method on the video you can be sure that it will hold still whatever setting you use. Have a great music making!
does it work for volca bass as well?
I don't own one so I can't answer you but I suppose it's worth a try. My guess is yes because they are very similar
What text to speech program / website did you use?
Ttsmaker.com, it's free
Now that I'm thinking . Yes two last men on earth ,somebody's getting on that din din map ...
"the possibilities are endless"
synth: bbbbrbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
🤷🏻
awesome. but is this your voice or an ai voice
Definitely mine with heavy Italian accent
@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic allora
So you just put a jack as a dummy connection, damn
Simple as that. There's another technique without any cable btw. I'll make another video soon
@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic legend
Oh dear, I'm not a fan of the speech-to-text. Seemed like a good video, but I can't finish it.
I feel you. I'm not native English speaker and I felt not ready to put my own voice with my heavy accent into this video. Sorry for the inconvenience!
@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic That's understandable. I hope you feel more confident in the future!
For me, subtitles would be better than speech (especially artificial speech).
But in any case, the technical idea of how to create a continuous drone on the Volca is clever and neat. :)
@@goulo thank you. btw I uploaded subtitles. if you hit the subtitles button they'll work just fine. 😉
@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic I'm okay with it, it's not the most pleasant to listen to but it gets your point across very clearly.
