Volca Beats is a very nice drum machine!

I didn't mean it as cheap solution, just.. use what you have. I had this one laying round for beat making and I found out it works for ambient too. Anyway it's old bit still a great sequencer, it could be the centerpiece of a hardware synth setup

😆 kind of vintage? Anyway 18 years for this kind of technology is a lot of time. The workflow feels ancient compared to newer machines.

Hi. I don't use it this way, so I can't really tell you, I'm sorry. I usually don't worry about syncing because my approach is mostly out of sync. I can test it through.

Well, I don't know all of them, and they are all quite different beats. I would consider the monotron more like an effect. For lo-fi ambient, I would go for the volca keys if you prefer an analog sound or the Roland s-1 for more versatility. But I don't have the modal, the sn an the liven so i cant evaluate them.

The drone is sequenced by the daw (just an endlessly sustained note). Since it's four voices, you can play freely over it as long as you don't use more that 4 notes at once.

The main difference is that the s-1 is a synth suitable for many purposes, while the liven is focused on ambient. I think they aim to different goals. The s-1 happens ato be great for ambient, the liven is made for that. For some unknown reason, I'm not attracted to it.

@@ElectroMagnetic_AmbientMusic True. Ambient can be something done on most all gear. Still think the Ambient Zero will be worth a go based on great demos. Can't beat the price point.

The four voices share the same parameters. So you can play 4 notes at once but with the same sound. The splitting in different midi tracks (same channel) is for the sake of arrangement or live performing.

I updated it on Mac os Ventura. And it was hard for me too to figure it out. I guess you could try on a different computer if you have the chance. I would not count on Behringer to solve the issue. My suggestion is to try until you figure it out. Sorry I can't be very helpful here. Thanks for the sub. Cheers!

@@nickshulba5062 risky move form behringer. everybody was complaining about the missing midi input, and they listened. But now all those who bought the first version are left with only option to trash the old one and spend extra 60$ or stay with what they have. not nice for me. Anyway, I still like the synth. A flimsy little piece of plastic with a great sound.

Yes of course, that's what I usually do. I use and audio interface of course.

Hi, thanks! It's hard to remember but usually I use cutoff quite heavily with high resonance, a little bit of detune and the octave or the fifth mode.

I'm quite sure it's possible to reset it. It should be somewhere in the last menu.

@@cartellimarroni you would need a sequencer that can handle that. The new midi version is not on the market yet.

I heard about that. But I guess it will not be as cheap as this one.

Sweetwater has it for pre-order and it’s the same price. I was about to buy one, but now I will wait or maybe just pre-order. I don’t really need MIDI in as I’d often pair with an iPad, but having it is better than not.

Absolutely love this little Behringer. Taking about the limitations of it - the A B controls going back to zero after switching between oscillators etc :/ Would you be able to recommend a notch up synthesiser with the same sort of tweaking abilities?

Same preset, same midi channel, it's just a trick to split the 4 voices in the daw for arrangement

Aha - I see..! Nicely done to have the drone below but have the melody notes still have some percussive short attack on them - I'm looking at a DAW-less set-up, so I'll probably only be using one layer at a time... nice work to lean the JT away from all the synthwave stuff and towards some gentler, softer sounds by the way...

I found a tutorial online. It needs some soldering work and handcraft. I made it because I didn't want to use a midi splitter, but that's the easiest option.
