You did a great job as an interviewer, and seeing this level of transparency from the dev team gives me a lot of hope for this game unlike others in the genre. I hope to see more content like this its great for the community and game as a whole
So many really good questions and answers. Sooooooo happy to hear that new player resources are being prioritized so heavily ❤ Also can't wait to get target practice available outside story mode
You love to see a RAVN video popping off- people don't realize you're literally on the grind constantly making banging content and you've been on it for YEARS 🙌
19:07 as a huge Awatsu fan, the answer to this specific question was a highlight of the interview for me! Even if we have to wait five or more years, just knowing that he could show up eventually means so much to me. Excellent interview, Ravn! Good on you for being such a great host and asking such great questions, and good on you Matt for being willing to be so transparent and giving really satisfactory answers without giving too much away! What a great watch!
Im only 20 mins in but this interview is fantastic i really appreciate the transparency from the devs its very refreshing. Also as a fors main i need that skin ASAP
This is awesome! I love the aether studio guys. They made the best platform fighter in 20+ years with a small team, are doing DLC right, and still take the time to do interviews with smaller channels. When I backed the game in Kickstarter I thought I'd play maybe 10 hours of the game total over the course of the first year but mostly play melee still. I didn't like rivals 1 but I also tried it in like 2018 when I was just getting into melee and was bad at wall jumping. So I just assumed it wouldn't be a game for me. Nah... Rivals 2 is my favorite right now. I truly can't wait to see what the game is like in a year. I want these guys to prove to the world that a good game can have free dlc. My biggest issue right now is there aren't enough skins. I have bought nearly all of them lol. Now I'm buying emotes and what not even though I'll probably never use them. Matt mentioned too many bundles. No no no keep adding bundles especially things like the starter pack where it's a few things but also a good deal for in game currency. Games have taught me buying the currency raw is the worst deal. When it's a bundle even if the value is technically the same it feels better to buy.
PLAESE! Watch the hole interview before looking at these timestamps. I making this comment so people ho just want to see one thing, or need to check something quick they can. Watching these 2 talk is a treat and shows how much they care about the community. Plus RavN is a G and needs the support. From Shadow Hawk: "Was there any challenges porting characters into the game engine or design wise?" 0:55 From EJ: "Since Ori & SK are not coming back to Rivals 2, will we see parts of there kit be added to new characters?" 4:00 From EJ: "Will we see more Dungeons of Aether characters come to Rivals 2? If so please dont tell us which so we can be surprised." 6:24 From RavN & The Colorado Rivals Discord: "What happened to the Denver servers?" 9:15 From Unspecified People: "Will we see Pier to Pier connection in rivals 2 for private games?: 11:15 From Hero Of Hats: "Whats your favorite character skin or emote?" 12:58 From Slinky: "When can backers expect to see the custom Icons?" 14:18 From Mr.Garasin (hope i spelled that right): "How do the dev feel about the feedback they get?" 15:20
i hope they reconsider doing 1500 skins, the way they are right now is just too expensive for what youre getting imo. maybe move the secret higher tier skins into that pricerange. but once again imo paying 50 percent more for a little victory jingle is not worth it, especially since id want outros to be skippable like in every other fighting game.
8:35 Completely personal request but I would love for there to be a smaller permanent coin shop for the skin pallets (Cool Blue, Black, ect.) so that more exclusive skins and other items can get slotted onto the daily coin shop. The coin shop is already a pretty good idea but it would be great to just have the option to buy those pallets more often while grinding character levels and event passes for those who aren't in a current position to buy Aether bucks
Great interview, I wanna share my opinion on this game because I've learned that I have a legitimate hot take in regards to the game. Specifically, I must express that I truly do hope they don't fall into the path of nerfing characters as well; it's just coming from someone who's witnessed at least three games feel worse because of nerfed characters. I am a firm believer of "buffology". Everyone always has one of two lines in response: "We don't want things to be overtuned," and "Not everyone has to be that good," but I am forced to strongly disagree with this after what I've seen. Sm4sh, regardless of its issues, would very likely have a stronger lifespan toward the ending had the previous top tiers not been nerfed overtime before their DLC releases... Ultimate's kind of trickier when they have over 70 characters, but it still cemented that thought when almost everyone's favorite changes were the buffs, and I was questioning half of the nerfs they made. To be clear, there isn't any frustration or annoyance, but the complaint/criticism more lies with a dissatisfactory feeling. It's very difficult to find anyone with this sentiment, but... you should buff most-or-all characters. It's close to being good, like shield/stage fix + aggro/parry buffs type of close. This comes from someone who is maining Random, I'm fundamentally labbing the game as we speak lol Given the talltale that I'm suggesting, what do I mean about the characters? Wrastor is at the level he should be, then everyone else is too weak; however, it can not at all be the reverse where you just nerf Wrastor. If you just nerf Wrastor, he'll either be awful and the remaining issues don't change, or he'll just remain good and people will shift their complaints back to the other characters. In both outcomes, it at best will only get the majority's eye off of the character. I'd give Ranno his dair-bubble interaction back and fix Maypul's visual illusions; seems like people have a tough time keeping up with her because of how she actually LOOKS in the game... Sounds wild, but yes, I don't think it's the size of the character at all. Yes, I've seen sentiments for nerfing Ranno/Maypul especially, but y'all honestly should be toning up the other characters. Zett could benefit from f1 Fire Pulse, Fleet could use a moment where her Hover doesn't immediately drop her to the ground for instant uair to be more accessible, Clairen needs more incentive to run forward, Loxo could use a speed buff, Kragg could use a stronger kb on up-air overall, Orcane might just benefit from engine differences and be perfectly fine lowkey, and Forsburn just needs more hitstun on his strong cape hits or some other move (it doesn't need to always link, but you do need to always have a shot at reaction combos. I have a 140-160ms reaction time so I also already have taken the wide-scale complaints into consideration, as I know a lot of anger comes from the ignorance or stuff that just can't be reacted to. I'm recommending options for a better fight in the end; if you're overly concerned about "balance" or "bustedness", I firmly believe that platform fighters will only disappoint you towards the end of your life with the genre. I say this with pure disappointment in my heart too, as it seriously hurts to be a chronic approacher even when I do win. Love the game, not sold on this genre when most people aren't fighting anymore; it's very easy to play defense when every single platfighter is at least 55-45 campy-aggro; there was always defense to be had in direct confrontations, and I think this game has the best possible chance. I believe in Aether's devs wholeheartedly to make it all worth the wait, sorry that you're also dealing with the large multitude of platfighter communities clashing their beliefs as well. I understand I just threw my own opinion in the pot as well; I have a lot of love for Rivals 1 and Melee both, and I believe in 2 to capture the best of both worlds. also at 21:05, amazing recommendation for the basketball ranno LOL
TLDR for those who don't want to read: They should slow down shield, speed up parry, make stages smaller in regards to blastzones, and then buff aggressiveness via buffing the collective roster itself. Nerfs have a huge risk of killing this game, and buffs creating a sense of homogenization is NOT a real concern at this time; character uniqueness is most expressed in Rivals out of all the games I've played, though maybe Ultimate has an argument for diversity. If you ask what community I belong to, I'd probably claim none, but give you the top 3 of Rivals 1, Melee, and SSF2 in terms of the games themselves. SSF2's actually one of the games that has been harmed by nerfs in my eyes, but that's another discussion.
27:50 - custom palette creator. Problem solved 35:20 - i feel like custom palettes would be fine, and skin models should be prioritized for monetization
Honestly, I'm excited for everything. I do wonder if some of the purchased pallettes will ever be usable on the skins instead of just the base characters. 31:51 yeah, that guy sounds like someone who uses and had gotten way too used to AI bs and expects things to just be done for them, that's not realistic AT ALL.
11:15 bruuuh wtf i cant believe the game is stuck on server based only... is it gonna take a FIZZI level effort to get a online experience that doesn't depend on a middleman?
@RAVN_ skill? i mean ye i get that its not like dey cant do it if they had to. Oooh ur saying like I was implying none of them are fizzi level skilled enough to do it? yea i didnt mean that. i more meant effort needed would ve be fizzi level
This was a great interview!! The transparency alone makes it feel like the consumer is apart of the development team, and that our support really does go along way. It’s more than a “cool cosmetic”, it’s funding the future of the game getting better.
You did a great job as an interviewer, and seeing this level of transparency from the dev team gives me a lot of hope for this game unlike others in the genre. I hope to see more content like this its great for the community and game as a whole
Thank you so much. I really appreciate it, and while I can't speak for everyone, I plan on doing my best to make more and more content for this game!
playing the game with the dev while interviewing him is so goated lmao
My thoughts exactly.
❤
So many really good questions and answers. Sooooooo happy to hear that new player resources are being prioritized so heavily ❤
Also can't wait to get target practice available outside story mode
Me too! I'd love to see people start speedrunning them!
I hope to see more interviews with Dan, you asked some great questions.
I hope to someday do one with him.
Awesome interview dude. Great to know that the Dev team is willing to do them with people.
Exactly why I trust the Devs.
You love to see a RAVN video popping off- people don't realize you're literally on the grind constantly making banging content and you've been on it for YEARS 🙌
I'll keep going till I'm in the dirt!
bruh sylvanos has to be a nightmare to make for animators with all the morphing he is doing.
Yeah, I think that's why they might take a while longer, but nice to know they eventually will join.
@@RAVN_ he was my main so i will have to tough it out until then, lol.

I know exactly how you feel I swear I have almost every skin available minus like 3 of them.
This is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for doing this! I love this game :)

Great video really informative.

I agree with the outros part but I think when we get tons of aether bucks it really discounts the 1500 skins so personally I don't mind.
7:45 Oh you bet your ass that I'll be splurging on the skins once I'm FINALLY debt free in January!
Congrats on making it this far! See you in ranked in your clean asf skins! 😎
HELL YEAH!
Thank you all 🥹🤧
Good idea of a video, love the game. We neeeeeeed shovel knight at some point in the game!
I'd love to have him but hey seeing his kit in the future could be really sick.

Rivals devs i freaking need that eldritch/hellish forsburn skin asap…
The abyss skins are coming soon!
@@RAVN_ yessssss
How do you get the Ranno basketball skin?
There are a few different ways to get it but it should be in the store real soon.
Whats the best way to pitch ideas to the dev team? I deleted my twitter account
You can leave your ideas here in the comments and I'll be sure to try to ask them next time.
Will the Shine skin come back for Zetterburn
I'm not sure but I'll be sure to ask next time.
