    Luke Kelly and Shane MacGowan must be having a deadly session up above. A shame those 2 never recorded anything together. Would have been incredible to hear. RIP to those 2 legends

      Thats almost an insult. Cant praise him enough. Luke was once off. He sang his heart out. My favourite musician btw, he had this unique way of delivering a song, hard to describe but in most cases just perfect

    Luke’s amazing but Ciarán deserves just as much praise here. In every clip of The Dubliners it’s Ciarán who brings the energy, especially in the final part of this song. You can here him thumping the hell out of that guitar and backing up Luke’s great voice so proudly

    • @paulkinsella6536
      @paulkinsella6536 2 месяца назад +1

      I agree. Ciaran was great. He didn't sing as many songs as Luke or Ronnie, but the songs he did sing were great, Drink it up men. All for me grog. Darby o' Leary. Roddy McCorly. Mrs McGraa. Peggy Lettermore. Great songs, great singer.

    It must have made Luke swell with pride to sing of a possible ancestor of his playing such a heroic role in such a formative movement for Irish independence. Hats off from a Yorkshire lad with a dash of green in his veins!

    What a song - and what manly and confident words! A 'giant with the gold curling hair' over seven feet in height! And a band of real men to sing it, using their bass/baritones almost as weapons, true to the suffering and defiance the song encapsulates. Anyone who is not converted to Irish nationalism by the song must be named Paisley or Varadkar and have the blackest of black hearts.
