  • I butcher Dominic Miller's guitar playing (Part 2). This one's a bit rougher around the edges, but it is what it is...

Thanks Chris, for posting this - this song is very special to me. I had it played at my Dad's celebration of life six years ago, and it was always a special song to me long before that. Thanks for getting the small details right. I'll keep working on it.

Thank you very much! Very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. I listened to this album nonstop for awhile after my Dad's passing in Feb. 2011, which eventually inspired me to learn this song and a couple more from it. Would love to hear your version!

Love it !!! Great job .. few got aware about how Miller is great .. his work on that album pushed it to a high level !
If you can explain his way of playing or at least show how this song is constructed! I’ll be grateful.. Dominic Miller is one of the few guitarists who actually got his way to fulfill my guitar love.

    • @ChrisInNashville

Fish Boy Every time I attempt a cover video - I strive to get as accurate to the original as possible. On a few occasions, I’ve taken a couple liberties but I try to keep that to a minimum.
I lost my Dad to cancer February 2011 and The Soul Cages was one of the albums I played heavily during my initial grieving process. Slowly, I decided to try and learn some of the stand out songs for me. So that’s how those videos came to be. Sadly, 3 months after my first videos were made and uploaded, my Mom passed away also (December 2012). So, a few of my videos after her passing were done as an attempt at therapy in a way - to get back to playing and some sense of normalcy.
Very happy you’ve enjoyed my videos and thank you! 🙏🏻 Working on some new ones and hope to have them uploaded soon!

@@ChrisInNashville Thank you so much for posting this great video. I too lost my Dad to cancer (age 95) just over 4 years ago, and we had this song played at his Celebration of Life. The combination of the songwriting and lyrics on this song, with Dominic Miller's amazing, always-minimized riffs, tasteful guitar tone and Sting's voice, for me are powerful and compelling.
Thank you for taking such care to figure out the riffs accurately. I will be studying this video for months to come to pick out the nuances, but I think I've gotten some of the introductory chord sequences. I've nailed the tone this evening (my singlecoil Strat, middle pickup, going into two sequential compressor pedals, and straight into my JVM210H on Clean/Crunch channel (Amber mode with gain set low to about 10:15 a.m.), and then in the FX loop, an MXR Chorus pedal into a Strymon Volante magnetic drum echo/delay pedal (set on 444 ms via tap tempo, with a lot of repeats and very wet mix) into a TC Electronics Nova delay (set on 444 ms).
