    Love your posts. Your enthusiasm is infectious! I'm going to the loop in the next year and a half, and love the info.. especially boat repairs, trials and tribulations.

    The kids ARE learning a lot! "Teamwork" and "attention to detail." Both will serve them well in the future.....

      And should they ever find themselves in a lock in the future, they will know exactly what to do 🤣. But yes, they are learning so much! Thanks for watching.

    I love you channel. I've been following you for a while. Have a blessed day squeeze your kids and your husband

      Oh he is way funnier in real life -- I just don't always catch his humor on camera. He has a million different voices and loves to animate everything. He gets quiet and calm when he is stressed so if he is super calm on camera, he is probably stressed. I go the opposite direction when stressed LOL. Stay tuned for more of his humor, and thank you so much for joining the adventure!

    You probably found this out when you got there, but Sylvan Beach has a very small but fun amusement park the kids would have enjoyed if you stayed there. I love the wooden roller coaster, it's so yesterday. I guess I'll find out next week, my own cliff hanger.

      LOL. We knew it was there but were concerned about finding a spot on the wall to dock two big boats for the night. But.... stay tuned for the next episode LOL

    I have no idea how this popped up as a suggestion for me to watch but I’m glad it did! It is good to see you again and your beautiful family! I still carry a lot of my Cinda B. Bags from my Ivystone Days! I can’t wait to watch more of your adventures! Penny M.

      PENNY!!!! How fun and wonderful to hear from you! Glad to know you re still rocking your cinda b. I am too but I sold in 2015 so I can do crazy things like live on a boat and be a fully present Mama. But those were some fun years. I hope you are well!!! So glad to reconnect.

    When you went under that low bridge after lock E18, I noticed that somebody had written (or scratched?) “SEA SH 92” on the overhead girder …wonder if back in 1992 another “Sea Shine” passed that way? 😮😊 😂 Watching you barely clear those bridges is making me hold my breath and get anxious - can only imagine what it was like in real time. I wonder if the weight of a fully loaded train would cause a bridge to sag slightly and lower the clearance even more…??? (BTW, I can identify with all of the bruises - it always amazes me how many things jump into my path (!😂) when I’m maneuvering around the boat.) Fabulous slo-mo shot of Mark plunging into the Erie Canal!

      So funny... we had to go back and watch that part of the video because we never noticed the SEA SH 92. Perhap another SeaSHINE did go under -- and they must have had a tight squeeze too in order to reach that girder. Thanks for letting us know about that.

    Assuming you haven’t already edited the rest of the videos, could you show more of the boat maneuvering. You always cut away from the docking maneuvers, which would be very interesting to see.

    • @TheBoomershines
      @TheBoomershines  7 дней назад

      Great suggestion!!! If we have that footage, we will definitely include it. The challenge is actually maneuvering the boat AND filming. Of course, maneuvering and safety always take priority over filming. But when we remembered to, we set up a camera on timelapse. There will be lots of those to come.

    No antennae was harmed in the making of this episode......well, actually.....

  • @RebelCowboysRVs
    @RebelCowboysRVs 9 дней назад +1

    I real never understood why boat antennas are not steel whips or mounted on springs. Its common on cars for that very reason. I use to drive in to 8 foot high parking garages with radio antennas over 10 feet all the time. They just bend over.
    I also wonder why loopers do the bridge height thing the hard way. You need a high pole or height pole on your bow. Type pilot car high pole in to youtube search to see how the trucking industry uses them. An old steel whip cb antenna cut to height an mounted on your bow, or just held up on your bow was you go under bridges would work. It would save you a lot of work an worry. And in your case save a few bruises.
    You could use that now broken antenna as a high pole. when you replace it, put the old one on the bow an cut it to height.

      @@RebelCowboysRVs Great idea! We actually had that idea and I was going to fit it in the burgee flag holder on the bow. The tricky part was lining up the exact height of the boat from the flybridge and translating it onto the pole. I even tried a laser level. The thought would be just measure from the water line up to a point and then from that point up to the top of the flybridge. Problem being the exact air height of a vessel is almost a living breathing thing. It can change inches in a day depending upon hundreds of pounds of diesel fuel burned, water in the water tank, black water in the holding tank, how many people/guests and even did you go provision and buy a bunch of heavy items. Not to mention the salt water content in the water can affect it as the more salinity the higher the boat sits in the water. All of that to say when mere inches matter the only way to truly know is to go for it… cautiously! Thanks for watching!!! ⚓️Mark

      @@TheBoomershines The change in total weight or displacement doesn't matter. The height pole goes up or down in the water with the rest of the boat. The problem comes in with how the weight is loaded front to back. You would want your rear most tanks empty an your front most tanks full when marking or cutting the height pole. That way at worst, the height pole is accurate, but in normal conditions it is higher than needed. You can add more to for more safety. My camper is 11 feet. My height pole on my truck is mounted at 11 foot 6 inches, with the last 6 inches painted red . If it hits, you may still fit. You just have to go slow, climb up an look. But most of the time it will fit under an you dont have to look. Accuracy is not needed as long as you account for the error on the side of safety. My height pole hits long before my camper would. That just tells me when to be careful. I then use the red paint to tell how close I am to actually hitting an if I need someone to climb on the roof an watch, or just turn around. If I hit below the paint, I turn around. If I hit above the paint, someone's climbing. If it doesn't hit at all, I know I have at least 6 inches of clearance an no one needs to.

    The reason lock 17 mandates a port side wall is because of the 40 ft lift and placement of the valve shack. The lock master loses view of vessels on the starboard side wall so for safety reasons 17 mandates port side wall. The NYS canal corporation doesn’t post bridge heights because they don’t want to be liable for any incidents. The water levels may vary depending on flood conditions or not. The gate design is known as a miter vee gate. It works exactly how you mentioned with hydrostatic pressure against the gates is the only thing keeping them closed. There is no internal locking mechanism. The original concept of the miter vee design was thought up by Leonardo DaVinci in the 1400s.

      I LOVE all this intel!!! And leave it to Leonardo to come up with such a simple, elegant and effective design!!!
