- Part Three
In this episode we continue timber framing our cabin. We install the horizontal logs, the king posts, and some braces to help hold everything together. This video was shot in the fall of 2019 and concludes itself on the last trip we made out to our cabin before the winter.
In the middle of nowhere in the Canadian forest, we are attempting to build a Timber Framed Cabin and we are documenting the process to show you how to build a cabin yourself. Our cabin is completely off the grid and we are working on it mainly with the help of friends and family. The goal is to live there while becoming fully self sufficient!

i actually sponched myself watching this
Awesome! Fellow BC resident in Nelson, wondering what kind of permitting process you went through for this? Did you go through the 'owner builder' process? What was that like? Looking forward to following the journey!
it would be great if you showed how you're doing it. you just show that suddenly cross bracing appears, but no idea how you decided on how to cut it or how you fastened it.
😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Calling Car 54. Where are you? ;-)
Fuck this rules
One of the best videos on youtube
Thanks really appreciate it! Hopefully have another episode coming soon!
Is there anything other than gravity and the v notch holding the horizontals onto the vertical posts?
Yes. We have thick steel brackets holding the main logs together. We also have been using foot long timber screws and foot long timber nails to tie everything together tightly!
Woodland Retreat appreciate the reply , thank you, have you found this method to be satisfactory?or would you change it?looking to do a carport and tiny house this way
matthew wood we believe that it is satisfactory for what we are building, however tendon and mortise timber framing methods are stronger. They are also far more complicated and take way more time and precision.
Did you use some kind of jig to make the half round cuts in posts?
No we actually just eyeballed the cuts for the most part haha a lot of test fitting and shaving
@@WoodlandRetreat
Oh cool
Love this... did y'all treat your wood in anyway? Or did you just leave it?
Thanks! We are planning on staining the exterior logs and just sealing the interior logs with a clear sealer.
where are you guys located? great job!
We are located in the Pacific Northwest
put the french hands on the posts
Keep your stick on the ice
Desant
Ever heard sharpening those carving knives???? WOuld help....an lot;o))
I see you are very smart man
The rule of Beans 12" spans 12'14 spends 14'Do your get it boys
It is not a timber frame It is a log frame You get timbers from lodge When you cut them into timbers Get it straight boy
Good thing there is not a lot of earthquakes out that way cause that thing is just a house of sticks , those 2x8s you wedged under your rim joists , not great . And this is not timber framing boys, not in the least, pole construction maybe. admire the tenacity and spirit though.
Ihre Nahaufnahmen mit der Sabbelei sind total uninteressant !!
Your close-ups with the Sabbelei are totally uninteresting!!
what is a sabbelei?
