There are so many Batty phrases I use in my everyday life. "Ohp. Gravity works." "I know where I am. I know where I am." "WHY do I not believe you?"
My personal favorite one that I quoted to my neighbor as a 90s child was, "Human Tales? Humans don't have tails, they have big, big bottoms that they wear with bad shorts. They walk around going, "Hi Helen!" My neighbor's name was Helen, making it just for her: she laughed when I did it, lol.

I just love in this movie, fairies think of us humans as the mythical creatures and Crysta's interaction with Zak later on demonstrates that.
It's basically the reverse version of humans believing fairies are a myth

yes! this is the only part i could remember from childhood. took me 10 years to find this movie again just based off the description of fairies hiding while the forest is destroyed. i could never find it until one of my teachers played it in class and i flipped out bc i had finally found it again.

I was absolutely in love with this movie as a child so my mom bought me a bag with Batty on it off of EBay. I loved it as a kid and kept it growing up. A year or two ago me and my mom happen to stumble on the topic of the bag and turns out that only people who worked on the film were giving those bags, long story short I have a bag that was given to someone who worked on the film. It is a prized item to this day.

Batty and Hexxus' VA's are what put this movie on the map. I mean, how many movies, if any, do you see with Robin Williams *AND* Tim Curry together!?
Part of me wishes that batty should have been the main character in this movie. I’m saying this because despite him knowing about humans and such, it would have been a great explanation as to how he ended up in the lab and where the rest of his family is at as well. I would like to see a movie based on batty, it would have made his character shine, plus Robin Williams is a genius.
Batty is so adorable I love fruit bats so much it's because of this movie I discovered fruit bats. Robin Williams nailed this role! Unfortunately he's an underrated Robin character and that's sad 😢
I don't think he was underrated..I have never heard a bad thing about him and I think pretty much everyone loves his films. But I could be wrong🤷🏻♀️

I used to wonder what species Batty is. You can see when he talks about "human tales" that he doesn't have a tail himself, which mostly likely makes him a Little Red Flying Fox.

I remember that during this and Aladdin's development, Jeffery Katzenburg (the president of Disney until 1995) did not want Robin to be in this movie because he wanted to market Robin in Aladdin during this movie's development, this backfired obviously and Robin did not want to be in a Disney film after Katzenburg fucked everything up. When Katzenburg was fired, Joe Roth wrote a public apology letter to Robin and stated they had agreed to not market Robin in any future Aladdin advertisements.

Rather funny to think about the fact that Robin Williams played almost identical characters with Batty Koda in Fern Gully and the Genie in Disney's Aladdin. Both films were released in 1992.
It's less funny when you read about Disney's attitude towards him working on both projects at the same time.
That company has apparently been vile for a long time.

Fern Gully is set around our very own Mt Warning which proudly for me is almost on my doorstep!. Mt Warning is situated right here in Tweed Shire, Northern NSW Australia. It's closed off to climbers due to safety. We are so lucky to have our beautiful mountain set in bundjalung country.

Oh boy, I didn't know that I'd seen this movie before. How long has it been? Some 13, 14 years? I have to watch this again sometime since Robin Williams is in it.
I remember quite vividly who I watched this with and where we were. Caleb, if you're out there somewhere reading this and you remember me, I will admit to the likelihood of you having more Lightning McQueens than me if your passion for Cars is as strong as I remember (I completely missed out on several of the Cars 3 toys), but I still refuse to concede that Ramone is faster than Doc simply because of his flame paint job ;)
