    I agree with everything especially The Exorcist. Cool video. Today I actually found some great horror. Predators , Evil Dead "remake" , Halloween 2 "the good one" , Halloween 5 , and The Purge Anarchy on Blu Ray , Dawn Of The Dead "remake" on DVD. My non horror finds were also cool but best of that was The Mandolorian with The Child funko.

    Here's one of my unpopular opinions I think the child's play franchise should have been only one movie because I feel like the movies were trying to stretch out the story way too much . I feel like the concept was only made for one movie but then they stretched it and we got the abomination that is the rest of the child's play franchise . Which I know people are going to be pretty upset with me but I feel like the acting the execution the scripts and the kills kind of fell flat and they were not executed well. But one thing I would like to say is I will always respect the child's play franchise because of the groundbreaking technology and the commitment that they showed to the fans of the franchise

    The Slasher Film can pursue important themes, and has done so quite successfully in works such as ‘Black Christmas’ (Clark, 1974) and ‘Jennifer’s Body’ (Kusama, 2009), unfortunately the public reception has never proved to be terribly popular, and I suppose this is the reason why such pursuits have been dropped from the sub-genre and saved for more “important” films.

    So, I can only speak for myself, but maybe what I’m about to say will clarify what others might be talking about when they say they don’t like to see social commentary or politics in movies (or any form of entertainment):
    I personally don’t mind it. In fact, I love it. What bothers me is when social commentary is forced down my throat just to be there. I mean, if you have something to say, by all means, say it. But don’t just say it because you can and want to stir up your audience (whether the intention is to stir them up positively or negatively). If there’s social commentary in a movie (no matter what genre), I want it to fit naturally into the narrative, not just piled on top of it to add artificial complexity.
    Another issue I have with it (kind of along the same lines) is when they only say it rather than showing it. Kind of like your view on Scream 2 how they talked a lot about the lack of black representation in horror, and immediately killed off half of the black characters. Just like any aspect of entertainment, I want it to show me, not just tell me. It’s a half-assed way of being “woke” in my opinion and I wish some film makers would put in a bit more effort in that department.
    I really didn’t mean for this to be a rant and I hope it didn’t come off as rude, I just wanted to weigh in on that subject.

    I understand the Friday Reboot being the best in the franchise is definitely a unpopular opinion. But when you think about it a lot of the issues people say about the film, those same issues can be applied to every other F13 film.For example people say this movie has bad characters doesn’t every other Friday movie have bad characters? This movie without a doubt has the best and scariest Jason. Plus this movie does have great little callbacks to other films like with sack head Jason, Jason being tricked in the end, even the pop up scare in the end. Plus out of every Friday, in my opinion this movie has the best story with Clay looking for his lost sister and Jason keeps her underground because she reminds him of his mother and which is understandable with the character of Jason. Plus this isn’t a typical camp counselors going to camp and they die. Yes they’re in the camp but they’re there to go to a friends dad house and it’s almost like Vacation/Horror film. If you don’t like it that’s fair cause all of us are gonna disagree but thank you @Haunted Hippie for reading my comment!!!! And we should all learn to respect other’s opinions that’s how opinion are supposed to work

    • @HauntedHippie
      @HauntedHippie  3 года назад +1

      That’s all fair, the reason why I said it’s lazily written is because of the insanely long cold open. Almost the entire full act is full of characters we’re not meant to care about then have to be fully reintroduced to a new cast 25 minutes in haha just bad writing/pacing. But yea every friday movie has bad characters

    19:09 "XYZ are dated, don't do these" Pardon me for asking, while I'm pretty confident in english it's not my first language. "Being dated" id equivalent to "went out of fashion", isn't it? I know you're talking about Exorcist, but I've seen the first Evil Dead ('81) for the first time this year and kinda fell love with it. Not because it's the scariest thing I've ever seen, but because its ... not sure what to call it ... low budget ingenuity resulting in feeling different / fresh, compared to decent budget modern movie. There's similar thing in music mixing, where everybody aspires to "mix like a pro", but all the pros sound the same these days (with rare exceptions) and thing get, at least to me, rather boring. If "being dated" euqals to "went out of fashion" there's no hard reason behind it, compatred to ... I dunno ... engineering stuff. Or am I wrong, is there any more solid reasoning than "it's dated, I'm telling you people stopped liking it 50 years ago" (possible subjective opinion of authority) ? Some studies the "datedness" is being based on, perhaps?

    Friday the 13th (2009) is pretty good. I liked it because of Jared Padalecki, and because I was a big fan of Supernatural. Also, Jason's intensity, strength, speed and intimidating behemoth appearance is what made the film a must watch. The characters could of been better developed but everything else was cool, from the cinematography to the suspenseful soundtrack. But something was definitely missing, more content and references to the other films while exploring the ruins of Crystal Lake. Alsooo, I liked the reboot of A Nightmare on Elm Street cause of the visual effects of the transition from the real world into a nightmare and Kruger being more serious (same problem as the Friday remake with the characters).
    I think the point of Michael Myers mask in Part 4 was to make it look spooky, George P Wilbur's build contributed to Myers looking stronger and monstrous. Don't judge me people, just pointing out facts with opinions 😂 I liked your opinions on each, you really know how to express yourself fluently.

    Wow, quite a Robert Pattinson unpopular opinion sandwich! Here's where you're wrong: No performance can make the Twilight movies watchable when its focused on a Bella-Edward relationship that is 100% gaslighting, abusive, unhealthy nonsense with a side of Bella-Jacob that is just as bad. On the other hand, the Lighthouse manages to be both spare (one setting, two actors, black-and-white film, narrow aspect ratio, a score with few instruments, etc.) and amazingly multi-layered (a character study, an authentic period recreation, a mythical battle over the light of knowledge, etc.).

    Regarding politics and cultural issues in movies, I think there is a time and place for them but the preaching has gotten so heavy handed recently that I am finding myself put off. Here is my biggest problem as a viewer, for what reason am I supposed to see Hollywood filmmakers as my moral betters as to preach to me about such things? I see what Hollywood's values system from afar and I have got to say my moral betters they are not. I consider my moral betters to be people like my late grandparents, long time neighbors, former teachers, former classmates, some of the men from work, people I go to church with, people I skydive with, etc. I care far more about what they think of many of important issues than what Hollywood would like to tell me because Hollywood appears to be a moral cesspool. (A whole system complicit in the Weinstein scandal, big name figures petitioning to permit Roman Polanski to come back, all types of sexual perversion and debauchery issues, etc.) For that reason I only want Hollywood to do what they are best at, create films to serve as an escape and keep me entertained for a couple of hours.

    Interesting fact about the mask in Halloween 4. It is the only time since the second movie that a Captain Kirk mask was used in a Halloween film. In that sense, it is the closest to the original mask. The lighting is the big difference. Tommy Lee Wallace painted the original Kirk mask fish belly white, very similar to this “porcelain” white mask in 4. The creepy lighting, thanks to the wonderful Dean Cundy, in the original movie is what made that mask work. So, I can see what you mean and understand why it doesn’t work for you in H4 :)

    An absolute variety of unpopular opinions some didn’t elaborate as well on why they disliked certain horror films others did in a rather unique thought provoking way. As much as the Exorcist we’re shocking, eerie, terrifying from The absurdity of Reagan character. Personally I believe it’s one of the more overrated films of all-time! Plus it’s not a film I can put on rewatch I gotta be in a certain mood. One of the most Brilliantly made non talked about horror films of all time is Caroline. From the Breathtaking yet on the edge of your seat plot, creepy ghost children and the other mother it gave me goosebumps!

      YES !!! Coralline is horrifying, I was way too young the first time I saw that movie

      @@HauntedHippie Yep Myself included, as far as Arthouse films goes & the debate on Ari Aster! others bashing raving Negative Views on it from fans; if I had done a top 50 horror films list both Midsommar, Hereditary would be on their! Despite certain issues I have wit it.

    Here's why you're WRONG about hereditary, EVERY one just needs to stop lol. It's a solid well made film, it's a TERRIBLE HORROR MOVIE. key word being HORROR. That movie skates by for well over an hour on ONE shock value moment. Then we get the well made and well acted family drama, hey all good that's a genre, I respect it's existence. But then Ari Trashter sloppily attempts to cram like 5 horror sub genres into a quite frankly insulting attempt at adding genre elements to manipulate genre algorithms on streaming services. But yea, it's a horror movie 😒

    • @HauntedHippie
      @HauntedHippie  3 года назад +2

      ? Ari himself has said he considers the movie to be a family drama.. he’s never claimed it to be a horror movie. Same with Midsommar. He calls it a break up drama, not a horror movie.

      @@HauntedHippie I'm actually very glad to hear that. Cuz again, on both accounts high quality films all around(haven't seen midsommar cuz yea no thanks) but please tell like everyone that 😂 cuz they seem to be treated as strictly horror movies. It's like saying lil nas x is a good rapper. I'm not tryna "gatekeep" as the kids say or be a genre Nazi but I'm all for calling things what they are.
