So sorry for the loss of your sweet puppy dog. My heart goes out to you. We lost both of our dogs within one year. It was gut wrenching. May I suggest shoe bags for travel. They keep your shoes from transferring dirt and from scuffing each other up. I sew my own shoe bags to fit my shoes.
I had never heard of laying the clothes flat out for packing! And it did feel like we were just hanging out while you were unpacking 😊. I absolutely bring flip flops or slippers for walking around the hotel room…. I have house shoes for my own home, there is no way I’m walking around barefoot in any hotel.

Here’s a packing tip: when I see shower caps offered at hotels I will take them and use for packing my shoes. Take the cap and slip it over the bottoms of your shoes. This will prevent any dirt on the bottom of your shoes to get on anything else packed near them. Much more hygienic.
Makeup bags are the hardest for me, as we almost always fly when traveling. I need the liquids in their separate baggy for TSA, so I don't bother with a makeup bag. The liquids live in their baggy (foundation, sunscreen), and I have a smaller pencil case-type that just has my eye makeup, brushes and blush. I'm not going to move things from one bag to another for a short trip, too much bother. LOL I also like to keep it simple when I'm away, don't take all the bells & whistles. But I'm also just a regular gal who doesn't need to bring my entire bathroom with me for a trip. LOL

Had to put our 15-yr-old cat down yesterday. Got him as a sick little baby and nursed him back to health. We had a wonderful 15 years together but my heart is broken. Prayers for comfort for your family.
I am so sorry about your 4 legged baby. My lab Patton has cancer and back in Nov he had his spleen removed. He's on meds and seems to be doing fine but the vet said we probably only have 6 months left. I've been an absolute mess; he's been with me through a divorce, family issues, school, everything. Our pets are so special and not here long enough

I put shoes in shoe bags. And always, always, clean them with wet wipes first. Normal cleansing wet wipes - which don't count as liquids at airports!

I always keep a trash bag for all the stuff that needs to be washed on the top of my suitcase so when I step inside my home laundry gets started

Put each of your shoes in a paper sack from the grocery store... before placing inside your suitcase! And never touch or handle the bottom of your shoes! Studies have shown gross, unhealthy stuff swabbed off of shoes...to include feces! Yuk!
