These reviews are highly underrated. This channel is much better than any ign or gamespot. You guys deserve 100k more views
^ this
You might also know them as Gametrailers, before they were shutdown.
***** I did but compared to gametrailers, easy allies isn't as widely known
True, many might not know that they've restarted under a different name. Given enough time, it will be as popular again.
Indeed.
I'm so glad to hear Brandon narrate these reviews, I can't wait for their FFXV and KH3 reviews.
Me too! The voice alone makes me click on reviews for games I simply don't care about. It was the same back in the GT days.
I wouldn't be without Brandon, he was the voice gametrailers, the best in biz back then. Gamespot and IGN immortalized lazy 5 minute reviews, just ridiculous.
Amazing review. Agree 100% with it, I hope it brings new people into the game, imo the best jrpg on ps3.
never played it got to give it a try.....
rewatching this as they just announced VC 4!
JustJulyo sameeeeee
OMG, YES!!!!!
i feel ya
Still one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. I may be an FPS aficionado, but that doesn't mean I can't fully enjoy experiences as majestic and soulful as this one.
The new Valkyria Revolution is such a slap in the face to this great game. They took out everything that makes this game unlike any other JRPG type games. They made it a hack n slash mixed with the usual final fantasy type combat and they no longer have the great looking cell shaded look.
Now if Sega re-releases VCII and brings VCIII to the states, then we talk.
Wasn't expecting a review of this, but always welcome, this is a great game, it was 8 years ago and it still is. And now it even has that delicious 1080p-60fps that is mandatory for some people out there lol This game is totally in my top 10 games off all time, I own it 3 times now XD
The ranking could use some work though, even maybe by completing it scout-superfast can only get you up to B-rank, but you have to beef up your score with extra kills to bump it up to A. But regardless of ranking, it's always very satisfying to completely clear a map, eradicating all enemies, even if you do get a D-rank for it lol
OMG!! I never knew the cast of GT were still doing videos!!!
yea. spread the word
Tell your friends!~
I put it on par with Chrono Trigger. One of the most polished, perfectly paced, most replayable RPGs of all time. Everything in it is good. No filler. It's possibly the best game Sega has ever made.
You have the absolute perfect voice for this kind of video
I think you guys should have mentioned the other bit part of the game - tuning your tank, upgrading your gear, managing your squad.
This is a remaster review, not a new release review. All of that was said in the original review, the point of this review is to state whats new and different.
So why talk about story and characters then?
Because you can't fill a whole review by just saying its got Anti Aliasing -_- jesus fuck...
So it wouldn't have hurt to mention the other stuff too; new players won't know about it so what would it hurt?
MODEYV2 pendejo
i will always love this game until i die !
Should I buy it?
This wasn't a hard sell for me I bought it 3 times lol. Ps3/pc/ps4
You can't imagie how happy I become every time a new EZA review is made. I used to blindly trust the Gametrailers review as those were in my opinion the best out there, and now that trend can continue. Thanks for making this channel happen
Maybe its just me, but does anyone else kinda get misty eyed when they watch the intro and that music kicks in? Bought it back in 2008 and again in 2016.
More reviews please. Going sign up for patron with you guys..... just need a new career is all.
Hmm I like the game, and I got the remastered edition on pc last year (?), but honestly the more I've played it, the more I realize how dissonant the anime tropes feel in the actual narrative, and how ultimately simplistic it is in the execution of a nuanced plot.
In certain parts the story seems thoughtful, but in the end, the moe / dating sim / genocide kinda falls apart.
Moreover, the "innocent" romance between the main characters is basically any anime/jrpg romance ever.
Still its true, if you're curious and haven't tried it, it's not a bad game.
I personally wouldn't rate it as highly, but I suppose it has been overlooked before so it deserves a boost.
Bernardo Del Castillo no one cares
I'm more worried that the only people buying this will be the old fans from back on PS3. Everyone who plays this game loves it, yet so few people are willing to try it
Nice review Ben
Ben's reviews are the best in the biz.
WhammyTime's comments are the best in the biz.
So basically codename steam is basically a clone of this but worse.
Wait, Gametrailers is that you?
Yep, when GameTrailers shut down they reformed as their own group, Easy Allies. :)
Hahaha, you can't keep good journalist down.
We need more decent dieselpunk titles like this
This is easily game is underrated and amazing. A well crafted piece of art and classic to have in your collection.
Just played VC 1 and 4 and holy shit people I can't say how much these games are underrated. Buy these games and support these devs - these games are a treasure
While I like the game, I will have to disagree regarding the story and it's morals, namely with how the game constantly and blatantly contradicts them and especially how it handles the Valkyrias in the end.
Great review Ben. Convinced me that I need to go ahead and buy this game.
Excellent it is, to me its a masterpiece strategy game! Kept my PS3 copy for 8 years, but could not restrict myself of buying a smaller better version for PS4! So rare strategy games on consoles for many years, always a pleasure replaying. Sad the VC2 & 3 where wasted on PSP back in the day...
on sale 75%, absolute steal. been waiting for something as good and addictive as advance wars on the old DS, well here it is
Valkyria Chronicles is such a good game. We need more like this.
I have it on PC. It's a really good game.
The PS4 remaster comes with all the DLC on disc, as well. This game is a modern classic - if you are on the fence, please give it a shot!
The number one game reviewer is back. I subscribed immediately after I heard Brandon Jones was here.
But you know he is only the voice? Anyway: if you really love the Old GT-crew, go to www.patreon.com/EasyAllies and give them some bucks. ;) So good to have all of them back, even Damiani, who is working on a successor of his Pop Fiction-series right now...
REDDF1VE Thanks for the info. And he's also the/an editor of the review so I'm sure some of his influence makes the final cut.
Planning to play Valkyrie chronicles after I finish shinmue
Fantastic review. I feel like I've heard everything I need to know about this game, to make an informed purchase. Which certainly isn't guaranteed these days.
*VALKYRIA CHRONICLES 4!*
I'd say if you enjoy fire emblem, advance wars, maybe ffta on gba and haven't bought and beaten this game you must enjoy shooting yourself in the foot and denying yourself what you deserve. Amazing game and I recommend hard difficulty as it is actually a struggle later on I rage quit for about a month mid game I couldn't beat this one level and came back with a vengeance
my advice for hard mode? have a core team of scouts you rely on and make sure at least one good sniper and engineer stay alive through the end. and use smoke like a mad man. I almost never used my tank for anything else! welkin was lighting it up
I don't like the story, honestly. The whole "I'm a Valkyria, and that's terrible" was an instant "WTF???" moment for me, especially when it came right after the easily most hype and epic scene in the entire game. I got turned off the game hard.
amazing game and a great review. I look forward to your other reviews soon please do gravity rush 2
Will you guys be reviewing Mirror's Edge 2, Homefront: The Revolution, and Street Fighter V???
Amazing review as always from GT staff
Brandon you have the greatest voice for these
I adore the Advance Wars series but am excessively bored by story in tactical games, especially if I can't skip it. Should I still give this a shot? I know Ben-san says I have no excuse but to be fair he says this quite often^^
great review, not even afraid to poke at how broken Alicia is.
Great review for a underrated gem. Easily one of my favorite PS3 titles of all time
Does look better. If this makes it to PC on Steam (i never read anything about if it is or not), at the very least, people who already owned the 2014 PC release should get a discount on the remastered version.
Still waiting on Valkyria Chronicles for main consoles and PC Sega.
I own this game on Steam but i've never played it, i'm not a patient person and it gives me the impression that it will be hard and frustrating. Am i right? I don't have the patience for deep tactical planning or replaying the same part over and over
Game is faster and has a more direct feel than traditional strategy or turn based games. Give it a try. Some missions get a little harder later on, but it's not like you need to replay them a dozen times to success.
Thanks guys, I think I will give it a go then. I love a game with a good story and characters so it seems like a shame to miss out.
As I love it 110%, dont think you would, but try a couple of hours would give you the answer. A first play needs patience and can be a hard game really thinking in a strategic way to beat a map. Give it a try, to me Valkyria was a buried treasure game for years when it came out on PS3.
Just a little thing like that white border is enough to put me off the game. Ridiculous I know but I can't handle it!
i love this game but i cant take the "Do it in 10 turns" like gameplay. Not the game fault, i never been able to handle it in any other game. I prefer taking and my time and do it in a safe and steady style. Still its a really good game.
Damn you Sega for relegating this series to irrelevance over the years.
FOR IOWA
Basically this remastered version is PS4 port of Valkyria Chronicle Steam version.
I tried to get into this game twice and both times I failed. I just don't like it and I can't even tell exactly why.
One of the only highly praised games I haven't played yet. I watched this yesterday, and decided to give it a shot. Whether you guys see this comment or not, I'd like to let you know how I feel once I go into it. But regardless, thank you for the review!
Wow, first time ever I saw a video with the blue energy sword woman. What a drastic change in theme lol.
VC4 coming in 2018 LES' GO!
Just recently started playing VC due to the remaster and 4 being sold together at a good price. Love the game, the setting, the strategy, and the characters, and especially LOVE seeing my old friends from Skies of Arcadia lending a hand... God I want to play that game again... That being said, if I had one complaint, it would be... Why why WHY did they make ranks based solely on the number of turns a battle takes? To get the best rank, you have to do insane things like charge your troops past enemies plinking away at them, ignoring everything but the goal. Forget tactics, forget cover, just run past all the enemy troops and HOPE your soldier doesn't miss killing someone at a critical moment, because you need that high rank, without it, you can't afford your upgrades.
This "remaster" has been on PC for years... I never used to be PC vs Console, but wow, didn't realize consoles were so far behind.
So... Allies dumb question are you EVER going to review Pokken Tournament? I know it's late but it really surprises me you haven't reviewed it yet.
Oh and excellent review.
I can unfailingly notice you used a clear save. Alicia and Welkin are wearing their Gallian uniforms in the prologue chapters. xD
On sale right now on psn flash sale for $12. These digital sales are killing. I just got persona 5 for $26. So much value and didn’t even spend $60.
The English voice acting for this game wasn't that great. The English voice acting was definitely improved in VC4.
great review
You should check out the anime if you haven't Ben, it's certainly not a 10/10 but it isn't bad either, and it does a nice job of fleshing out some of the characters on the Imperial side, particularly Maximilian and Jaeger.
First time through just ignore the ranking system; just play it how you want. Getting less XP will actually help you not get OP too quickly and you'll enjoy the game more. If you want the medals for best ranking just come back and do it later when you can likely breeze through - even with a single character in some cases.
As I remember I watched Your team review of the PS3 Version @ That time...admired The review & still admiring the work on the remastered version, peace & Easy allies FTW
hope this means we'll get a odin sphere review as well. I know those are completely different games by completely different companies but I'm referring more to the fact that this review basically confirms that you guys won't shy away from reviewing a game just because it's a remaster, which is GREAT! And I feel odin sphere did more with it's remaster than this game did in terms of actually changing how the game works instead of just making it look better.
Glad I found you guys again :')
Great review of a truly great game. I play a lot of RPG's and JRPG's but never did this one, so I bought it on release only a short time ago. And it's true that the ranking system is not the best, give yourself a defense boost and rush to the flag ignoring all enemies (or killing only a select few) and you get yourself an a rank for that mission. I found it really strange since those enemies were suddenly "gone" after that capture. Anyway the story, music, voices and graphics are very good. And with all the extra skirmishes or even extra story's like "Largo's Vegetables" (really weird) you last a long time.
I got this for PS3 a long time ago. I was enjoying every single moment of it, and then there was this one mission I had to use a guide to continue the game. Pretty much killed it for me after that. Still, if you absolutely love turn-based tactics and/or good at it. What the hell are you waiting for? Get the damn game already
1:58 what is better dan Xcom? Fcom!
This is hands down my favorite game of the last gen consoles, and perhaps my favorite game of all time. And yeah scouts are reaaaaaaly broken, back on PS3 I was able to beat most missions in 1 turn using the Alicia (maybe all can't remember if there were some that couldn't be beaten quickly)
Definitely one of the most innovative JRPGs/SRPGs AAA's in recent history, can't recommend this game enough! :-)
This game changed my life
I love you guys, but I REALLY wish you would stop with this whole 5 stars thing. The 0-10/10 system made SO much more sense.
You can imagine each star as 2 points. So, as this review got 4.5 stars, that would be a 9/10 =)
André Strassburger I know, but...I still just greatly prefer the 10/10 system.
See I feel the opposite. I wish they wouldn't have half stars because I think a 5 star system straight up makes the most sense. Though I've also been following Giant Bomb for years now and just picked these guys up when they started Easy Allies. So I guess it makes sense why I'd feel that way.
I'm on chapter 3 and this game is magnificent! It reminds me of Final Fantasy Tactics, a game not even Xcom really did for me. Its unique hybrid of turn based strategy, real time action, positioning strategies, little handholding, the robustness of creating a squad, and the story made this a game I was gonna play for a few hours to a game I'm putting everything else down to play to completion right now
Platinumed this game a few weeks ago. Great game, didn't love the story though. Loved the music.
I want this game but buying b4 E3 is never a good idea.
It was one of the best games I've played back then on my PS3, too bad Sega doesn't seem to be porting part two to the PC or even releasing the successors in the west. Though I fear they can't touch the greatness that the first iteration is anyway.
I just wish they would have included the other games in the PS4 port for those of us who have no interest in PSP or PSV.
the anime was also pretty well done and man there are death (alot) it's pretty good anime and I played it on my old PC I personally give it a 9/10 (it's felt a bit slow to me still a nice change of pace)
Good job, Ben. I've only watched the anime and played the demo long ago. Will definitely give this a shot.
Thanks aton for the review , very well done and its helping me create my ultimate ps4 gaming list. I'm about 4 hours in and loving every minute of it
i recently watchd the anime and i was a fan from the first episode after that i learnd that there was a game of it me as a ps4 player dit buy the remasterd version and i loved the game from the start after playing it i noticd that there was going to be a new version coming soon so i pre-ordert it and i am waithing for now but until then squad 7 move out !
This game was so hard lol had so much fun though
I'm ashamed I never was able to beat the final boss... ( very hard battle imo, maybe too hard )
Will Michael Damiani review the remastered Final Fantasy X released on steam ? Is it any good ?
Came here looking to see if I wanted to buy this game and about 2 mins in you called me out and now I have to lmao
Any chance we'll get an Odin Sphere review!
Thanks guys!
Excellent and unique game. Glad people get another shot to try it out this generation. Great editing with the music at the end there as well.
Brandon is absolutely right. You HAVE to get this!
Man, I love this game. Agree with the criticisms and final score - solid review Ben!
Never thought I hear your voice in reviews again! Glad to see you guys still doing your thing.
EA is legit af. I always enjoyed the GT reviews and I am happy that the EA reviews didn't lose in quality.
Let's call em' EZA, "EA" is taken by that shit show studio
I like regular RPGs never got into JRPGS what are some good JRPS?
I hope you guys review Odin sphere leifthrasir :)
I had WAY more fun watching the anime then playing the game. I must say tho I didn't get to far into the game. The gameplay was more like a puzzle game then an RPG. It seemed to lack quite a bit of character progression and customization. I think it would have made me get more attached to the characters.
thats why there are better sequel like 3.
Its nice to see this game getting some love, great review from you guys as always.
Spent the whole night editing and posted the video before going to sleep, huh?
