- Welcome to a new series called Swift Strategy where I (attempt) to review Strategy RPGs in a speedy fashion. To debut this new show, we're going to look at one of my favorite games of all time. Valkyria Chronicles.

Great format for quicker reviews! This made me want to get back to this game! Good stuff, Chris!
My problem with the game is the ranking system encouraging you to just blitz to the battle goal with a scout, essentially skipping the battle. I want to replay it at some point, and use a cheat to keep the turn count down, so I can just "play it right", without worrying about the rank.
Or you could just stop worrying about ranks 😅
I know what you mean, but I think it's cool that the game offers 2 different playing experiences.
Going for the S rank and Max score will make you focus on planning and execution.
If you're not interested in that, you can just run whatever composition and play at the pace you like because the game gives you a window of 20 turns to complete the mission.
There are mods for that!
@@Njordin2010 Mods, or cheats? I haven't found mods for it. I've just been using cheats for each game.
Got this in a bundle with Valkyria Chronicles 4 and all dlc for both games for 15 bucks

I have to say...
Right now being european and being interested in turn-based strategy games has an entirely different taste than before.

I've recently got en play the game even if known about it before just wish Valkyria Chronicles 2 en 3 wasn't just on PSP at least Remaster en 4 on PS4 en wish was more to the series and game play since I found a way to use Scouts as the best AT units
You can beat it without grinding so long as you know how to spend your experience, and money. If you're playing on normal, and don't have the right orders, the final boss is impossible, or at least very close.
You can A rank the game on normal without levelling your classes or upgrading any weapons or equipment. Essentially without spending exp or money.

Yeah, dont agree on any of the points.
Game design is very bad - game is bad at telegraphing its goals, punishes slow and thorough play, almost everything can be cheesed with scouts, there are solid walls you can look through but can't shoot, I've had snipers miss 3 times in a row, had my snipers shot from a tank halfway across the map, tanks with disabled threads still driving around, etc etc etc, lasted till chapter 9, I'm fkn done. Xcom is way better and more fun.
