Just a small historical note - ussr never complete any of its food programs for people. My mother worked at a meat factory. I still remember her tears when she showed me white trains full of meat, ready to go to Moscow while you could not find any decent meat in the shops. Private chunk of land in the village where my grandparents lived was only a good source of food.
P.s. I hate to work on land - all these weekends during childhood and teenage years spent working on this chunk of land ( ohorod ). Only loved to work with a cow and rabbits.

China's agricultural land is far less productive than that of the US and many other countries. It requires far more inputs. Actually, Brazil is in a similar situation, only potentially worse. Disruptions in world trade will affect both China and Brazil greatly.
One must not forget why the one child policy was implemented. The fear of the CCP was that their growing population would be a detriment to their rule because of their inability to feed it. Opening up and allowing massive food imports helped. The one child policy has condemned China to demographic collapse. That is not a strong position from which to threaten the world.
A country that imports a large amount of food and industrial inputs from far away is in no position to take over the world. China's navy is in no position to guarantee these inputs will flow freely. That also assumes that other countries will still want to send them.

There is no such thing. To the extent to which a collapse is even possible, it is a short term problem. China already has like 1.5 billion people. The shrinking population will only be a problem for a short period of time, from the time the childless retire until they die. This is maybe 20-25 years.

Add to that the dismally low birth rate in China today and there is no coming back from this.

Part of the elimation of cash crops to farmers, like fruit trees, and more emphasis on growing rice. The farmers want to grow food according to profit (market supply and damand). Not bureaucratic decisions made in a distant Beijing office. This is also doubly worse than a Western or democratic Eastern government. As a government, the CCP lies and covers up from top to bottom. This means no reliable data will be in for agricultural production. This could lead to a famine. Just like the Great Leap Forward.

Yep, the problem here is definitely government interference. If your farm is not growing it is dying as you have to stay big to protect yourself from unfair market manipulation and government regulations. I just saw a video from yanasa tv here on YT about the state of Oregon going after small farmers by creating an invisible ecological issue where they went in and bought the land out from under the farmers and another tactic was restricting their water rights. End result, more small farms disappearing.
A quick internet search also reveals this(something Europe has been experiencing for years now):
“The state of Oregon has effectively shut down small farms and market gardens on a large scale, and they’re actually sending out cease-and-desist letters to farms. They’re using satellite technology to find their victims and send them these letters that say you can’t operate.”

Deforestation won't work in the long term. It's not working with Brazil's deforestation. 90% of Brazil's ag is rainfed. This makes droughts, heatwaves and other climate interruptions a huge problem for consistent yields with soil from deforestation. Also the quality of the soil from deforestation makes it low quality for transpiration without the assistance of massive quantities of chemically assisted fertilizers. China's other land problem is the Monsoon season half of the year, the Himalaya regions in the southwest and the expanding Gobi Desert surrounding the northwest. Russia has a similar problem of the land masses that sandwich their wheat belt. You have the Arctic tundra north of the belt and desert to the south. A degree increase in warmer temperature from both North/South Poles will bring in that same climate interruptions consistently.

It also doesn't help that China more or less has ceded development of those seeds to places like the U.S. and Europe as well. A combination of lack of home grown breeding initiatives and a constant need for more and more productive crops has resulted in nearly all native traditional varieties of most crops being supplanted by imported ones. And it's gone on long enough that the reserves of most of those old varieties are depleted beyond a level that would allow an easy or quick return to them. Quite simply, not only is China reliant on imports in terms of bulk produce, but even they stuff they DO grow for themselves relies on imports of seed to plant.
This also applies to adding land to farming. Those salt tolerant seeds they need are pretty much all the products of Western breeding programs.
In short, were the West to cut off exports. China would probably not only face a major food shortage short term, but considerable difficulty in picking up the slack down the road. They'd easily be looking at a long term to PERPETUAL famine situation.

If your option is being hungry on the streets or being in the country side with food and shelter. After being on the streets for a while you’re learn quick that either the street live is fine for you or you’d decide I’d rather have food and shelter.
Remember it’s only relatively recently, that humanity has gotten access to so many things. just 100 years ago things were a lot harder to get. Yet for thousands of years people made it work.

So many factors. China doesn't have very much usable farmland to start with, then China built cities on much of the easier to farm areas. The areas available to farm are not very productive and need considerable inputs. China imports some 70+% of it's energy, food, and food imputs. As globalization continues to break down, China is in a world of hurt even with their crashing demographics. The good news is they did land a space craft on the moon (not humans), almost catching up with the what the US did over 50 years ago.

Worse, the problem cannot be solved on any permanent basis because today's arrangements of trade offs would always be subject to changing conditions and need to be revised. And under a centralized authority would require that the authority always remember that things change and timely revisions are very hard under centralized, authoritarian rule.

China and India both have populations of 1.4 billion people or more during a time when, not only are the younger people moving to the city for better jobs, but extreme weather events are diminishing crop yields, and both governments seem to be ineffective at dealing with actual problems instead of trying to make themselves look good to their populations. Foreign Direct Investment will take a hit as people realize the instability of systems that cannot feed their own people. This will create a further slide into poverty in both nations.

Something i see in a video similar that discuss the future of China like two or tree years ago, first and something i discuss there THE WEST IS NOT THE WORLD, yes there is a food crisis, because the west and china depend more and more of import, and stop producing food on thire own because political reasons, and financial, not economical financial, why because food now is becoming more and more control, by a few number of companies that want more money, and make the process in ways wich damage the soil, yes is still efficient and goverment want small farmers or independent being absorve or disapear, control, of the food chains, wich lead to yes big production in short term and excarcity in long and big pricess.
Also is the dependant in imports, wiouth thinking if something happen to that logisctical chain is bye bye, because there is more a push to ecology, wich reduce local production in favour of imports, and building in prime fertile land, leaving it useless for a long time.
Not to mention lost in practice, and tecknique, not to mention not paying the farmers both in econoimical and respect they deserve for theyre importance in society.
In that video, wich i discuss the isue, the guy being the one that made why america will have its french revolution, he said that china will contract, not only for lack of food, but also lack of oportunity to young ones have a family of its own, bad life conditions and more, it will contract, and population decline as it has happen many times, i see something similar with the world in general, a big contract, and a lack of push in tecknology as a general and back to more nation and local regional ideas, mine is the most lets said optimistic there are more darker posibilities.
I put these because youtube has erase many times mi coments, not the first time, but well is what we have, and i am the most positive in these topic
