▬ ABOUT THIS MATTRESS REVIEW ▬
Purple Plus vs Original Purple Review (Which Mattress Is Better?). In this video, Owen who is a Certified Sleep Science Coach covers his comparison of the Original Purple vs Purple Plus mattresses. The Purple Plus is the newest addition to the Purple mattress lineup. It's essentially designed to be an upgraded version of the Purple Original bed. Owen talks about how the two beds differ in terms of construction, firmness and price. In simple terms, the Purple Plus uses an extra layer of foam and thus is a little softer than the Purple Original. As such, the Purple Plus may be a better option for side sleepers seeking ample pressure relief. Thanks for watching this Purple Plus vs Purple review!

Used to have the original purple a couple years ago. Just got the purple plus and it feels much firmer and I don't seem to sink into it on my side like I did on the original purple. Definitely doesn't feel softer to me and I'm a side sleeper.

Thanks for giving such in depth reviews of all of the purple mattresses - even your own experience with the premier 4! It’s super helpful to hear how it has held up for you over time and how it works for your partner, too. I laid on a purple mattress in a mattress store years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. As a lightweight side sleeper who sleeps pretty hot, memory foam mattresses mostly feel like a dense, insulated brick (with a tiny bit of give). I think that eventually, a purple mattress will be as good as it gets for me. 🙌

Thanks for this review! Been waiting for it but I think it's too late. IF this had been an option 8 months ago, it might have been our holy grail. After our experience with the grid we'd be hard-pressed to give the Plus a shot. (We tried the Purple 3 and after 3 months, even the purple 4 would have been _too springy_ - I felt like like I was being catapulted in my dreams- it was *awful!*) I wished for exactly this solution back when we decided we couldn't live with the 3... a softer plush foam layer under a 2" grid might have offered enough sink-in to stop the sensation of being pushed out of the mattress.
I think it Purple made a great choice with this option that will offer many people who can't do the thick grid and need a plushier supportive feel.

Please tell me your recommendations: I need a soft feeling mattress. I’m a 5’3” female & 95lbs. A little over a year ago I purchased a Plush (soft) queen size bed by Nest (after a lot of research). I was told by them it needed time to break in. It’s still to firm. To me it feels like a 7 when I need a feeling of 4-5. I’m mostly a back sleeper, sometimes side (altho not really since this “new” mattress). My hips barely sink in at all. So when lying on my side the pressure on my hips is unbearable after a few mins. FYI: I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis in all my joints since 18 mos old. Many hips and knees replacements. Blah blah, chronic pain, blah blah. I get sick of hearing myself😂 Sleep is the only respite I get from pain. The best bed I ever had was my waterbed. Soooo comfy! Eventually I couldn’t get out of it anymore. Do you think a Purple would provide similar pressure relief for someone my size? I’ve heard it compared to sleeping on a bowl of jello, lol. Sorry this is so long. Forever grateful for all your videos.

I think the pro sounds like a great option for those that want to try out the unique bouyant feel of the Purple but with a little more familiar foam feel. Also it sounds like a great option for strict slide sleepers bc of the softness, but I think overall I would prefer the original due to the medium firmness.

Ordered an Intellibed, but encountered a mess with production and delivery times. In the end we decided to cancel after learning their customer service is a tragic mess. You can rarely catch anyone in the customer service department by phone. They have a recorded message to call back during business hours -- well I was calling 5 times during their Utah hours. So disappointed. For the price, you would expect a dedicated customer service response. Sad never got to try, but so happy I saved money when realizing the price did not match the support. Really wanted to try this bed. Not even an apology from the company or an attempt to make things right. Pity.

On purple, I suggest you try a chair cushion or topper first. It is very very heavy. If you are over 250lbs side sleeper with lots of pain issues like fibromyalgia and back/sciatic-I suggest you go with a medium over firm dunlop over individually wrapped coils Avacado and either wool wrapped talalay topper or go with something like Purple topper with a wool topper. Expensive yes - but you need Dunlop latex for support, coils for durable support and then a topper layer like talalay soft or medium topper or a purple topper to help with hips and shoulders ease for fibromyalgia or other pain, sensitivity issues.
Latex isn’t really hot - slept on one for 3 decades but if you are heavy and sleep hot - the cotton covered 2-3” wool absorbs moisture and allows you to sleep cool in summer and warmer in winter - but the nice thing about wool is it adjusts to your body temp, it’s naturally fire retardant and gives you this soft luxurious feel as long as it’s quilted. I don’t like those that the wool just floats - it’s better quilted to keep layers in place.
I have tried a horse hair, wool, cotton, etc combo topper and it felt nice but don’t know how it is long term nor any of the newer ones. More what was made decades ago. My current almost 100 year old sofa and my 70 yr daybed is made of horse hair, wool base with springs and spring down cushions are still in great shape. So the old combos are very durable. Most antique sofas, daybeds are made with horse hair (tails), wool, latex and spring down (down over old fashion coil springs). I don’t know how the same but new made materials hold up. Let’s face it - I have 100% cotton bedding from the late 1960s that are still in great shape, including the smoothness ie 200 thread count percale (woven) which I love because it’s smooth, cool. It’s colors are still great, not faded at all. The sheets don’t have elastic, the just were fitted to fit whatever size so just fine - back then it was a twin and full size- not all the sizes we have now. Cotton towels from mid 1960s now 55+ years old are still great though the binding/edges is getting a little ragtag. I took a bunch of towels to the barn to use with horses and when through with them there, still in great shape. So I didn’t need them all - went to another family member with horses and still being used.
However cotton sheets, towels, etc I bought less than 10 years ago just like cotton shirts, socks, pjs, etc look like they are 100 years old and are faded, thin, out of shape, and shrunk up more. For example cotton tees and nightgowns have shrunk from bottom hem up, just shorter and shorter. Huge shrinkage in the beginning few months.
My first Heat pump lasted 30 years with one $35 repair part. The installer of my new one - same brand said don’t expect more than 10-15 years out of new ones. Furnaces used to last 50-75 years and then maybe need work and be good for another 25 years.
Appliances like frigerators, washing machines, dryers, etc used to be good 30+ years. Now if you get 5-10 you are lucky. Same with hot water heaters - my first one in my current home was used when it came in here (I rented before buying), it was approx 12 years old. I used it for another 13 years . So 25 years and it left here, went to another property and has been there 22 years so over 47 years. Now the sacrificial rod has been replaced a couple times, the heaters have been replaced - all easy diy and cheap if you buy at plumbing store. Same for replacing heater in your dryers. But my gosh, look at the time life. The next one made it 7-8 years, sounded like jar of glass marbles and went to the dump. The one put in 2013/2014 has already had everything replaced and sounds terrible. Flushing does seem to help. Bought a washing machine in 2008/2009 and it had to have the balancers replaced 3 times before warranty ran out. I have paid for them to be replaced once. It’s rocking and walking away like crazy but I will continue to use until it’s shot no more repairs. The three repairmen said - you bought this at Lowes ir Home Depot didn’t you? I said yes - said same model has 4 balancers/springs (forget the exact name) bought at a higher end not chain appliance store. But to meet price point for these to big boxes, they drop one balancer so this one has 3. Put a lot of pressure on it, won’t stay balanced and they hope it holds until the warranty runs out. Now my dryer - looks bad, and I have to tape the door closed. However, it’s from the early 80s has been cross country and back and in storage and here around 1992 and is still going. Has had one heater put in. I hate the look of it but I hate worse to get a new one. Because I know it’s not going to last. My wall oven when I moved in here - was that old 60s avocado green color. All the appliances in the house were that color. It was the thing when the house was built in 1962. In 2000, I replaced it cause I could finally afford to do so - by 2012 the fancy dan console panel failed and GE didn’t make a replacement - so many failed and they didn’t do a recall either. I tried everywhere and several repair guys tried to find one but no luck. The prior one lasted from 1962-2000 ( 38 years) with one element repair. The next one 2000-2012 exactly 12 years and no ability to repair.
It’s just crazy that we can’t get anything to last anywhere near the time prior materials did.
And where a self cleaning range, with a glass cooktop bought in 2006/2007 purchased for $600. 4 years ago they bought another for $2300 with the same features. Family liked the other one so much, they bought another just like it for a new house. Three repair people say it will cost $850 labor and parts to repair. Is that not ridiculous? They are wishing they had bought the old one with them, and put a used or a scratch/dent in the old house for its new owners.
I know this off the mattresses but they are the same. These foams are dangerous to our health, God forbid you are disabled and can’t get out of bed by yourself and a fire starts - you will burn up or the poly foam smoke will kill you. The same with all these spray foams in our houses and vinyl siding and poly carpets, etc. a fire 1-2 houses away catches on fire, and the siding melts on your house. Windows rotting out at 15-20 years. Carpets shot, same for laminate flooring which are basically OSB, MDF, some sort of engineered wood fibres, sawdust, glues and chemicals. A little but of moisture and they start to fall apart. And the sad thing is our houses are falling apart at 15-20 years or less. We are talking $300-350,000+. The trims are plastic, water resistant cardboard, and foam.
Give me old fashion hardwood preferably wood rescued from old houses due to the density. Like 100% oak or heart pine flooring from 100 years ago. People who tear out 100 + year old 100% mahogany, white oak, or other hardwood windows to replace with todays crappy pine that weighs 50% lighter than the old wood - and then have to replace them in 15 years. They should have learned to repair the mahogany windows room by room and they would be around another 100 years. Even todays oak, for etc is so much lighter in weight and density. I built a shed out of old fir that was used in a barn, then bought to build a neighbors shed and then to me to build mine. We didn’t pay much attention - it was free. Until we got to the end and needed some more 2x4 and 2x6s. Went and got them and when compared with the old fur - was shocked. That shed is now 20+ years old. If we tear it down to rebuild and put a concrete floor under it (should have done so in the beginning - couldn’t afford it). - we will pull the nails on that fir and use as much as possible. It’s not the shaved down stuff of today and is so much heavier. A friend gave me some pieces of cypress siding off their parents house - oh my gosh, it’s like night and day over todays crap. Full 2” thick.
