    Great video, Love these vintage Omegas. Just curious that there seems to be two screws missing from the edges of the movement (I could be wrong but are they case screws?)

    • @Karol235
      @Karol235  2 года назад +2

      That's right, two screws holding the mechanism are missing. this mechanism was assembled in different types of cases. this model has a plastic centering ring, others have been screwed on

    So what caused it not to work? While you were removing the hour wheel and cannon pinion, I see that the escape wheel and pallet fork were ticking (2:40). Were they freed up after hands were removed? Was the second hand stuck? I have interest in the 1020/1010 movement because I have them in my collection and I plan to service them myself, but was told that they are not very easy movements to work on (small screws and plastic parts easy to break).

    • @Karol235
      @Karol235  2 года назад +1

      hello, the watch has been lying down for a very long time. greases and oils have dried out. there was only dirt on the axles and in the bearings. by moving the wheels, the watch moved for a moment, but then it stopped

    Waited and waited for a comment telling us why such a 'new' looking watch wouldn't work....found out in the comments

    • @Karol235
      @Karol235  2 года назад +2

      hello Kevin, mechanical watch needs to be maintained ( serviced) every 5 years. washed and new oils. the oils dry up over time, at some point there is nothing but dirt on the axles and in the bearings. and the watch stops. in extreme cases it can be damaged.
      Regards Karol

    Hi, thank for the lovely and detailed video. Can you please explain what is the mechanism you are demonstrating at time 13:36 - 13:46? I've never saw such before...is it a safety against a shock? thx again

    Great video, but I’m still trying to understand why the watch wasn’t running at the start. During disassembly the resistance in the train of wheels was high, but it still seemed high during reassembly. It seems likely that this would cause the watch to stop prematurely, as the power in the mainspring decreases to the point that it can’t overcome the resistance. So why didn’t it run at all? Many thanks!

    • @Karol235
      @Karol235  Год назад +6

      hello, the watch stopped working because all the oils and greases are completely dry. it has not been serviced for many years. the resistance was so high that the escapement stopped working. too low amplitude, too much resistance on the pallet fork, completely dry and dirty balance bearings, too little power, dirty main spring is enough for the watch not to work properly and in many cases this is enough to stop it completely
      Regards
      Karol

    AFAIK the manufacture of 1020 ended about 1984, but that watch looks like it has been bought from the shop only to be thrown in the drawer and forgotten there to dry out for at least 35 years. A true collector's piece perhaps? ; )

    • @Karol235
      @Karol235  2 года назад

      Agrees with you, the watch looks like it has never been used. it is very possible that someone bought it and it just lay in a box

    • @Karol235

      Exactly. the old greases and oils have dried up. there is only dirt in the bearings

  • @Bill_Hartnett

    When you first opened the watch, it looked like the case screws were missing. Is that right? I'm not a watch maker, just a video watcher. But it looked like there were holes where something was supposed to go. Either way, good work!

    • @Karol235
      @Karol235  2 года назад

      yes that's right, no screws to hold it, just a plastic ring. this model has such a solution, the mechanism in other types of cases was screwed down here, not

    IMO it’s safer to let the mainspring down using the winding stem. Also, never wind a watch using a screwdriver. The screw head might break, especially on a manually wound movement.
