gcse years usually start in yr 10(some skls do yr 9) but the actual exams are in the end of year 11, and you get graded using numbers (1-9). when you’re 15/16 years old. once you’ve done your gcse’s, you do A levels or sometimes IB but typically A level, where you get grades with letters(A*-E)
