My arrived today in green to be fair it seems a good radio, it's my first Baofeng receive is sensitive output is about 3.8 watts on high power and the menus allow you to do everything you would expect, build quality seems good too, I am pretty impressed

If it’s locked to just amateur bands, hold down PTT+SK2(button under PTT)+GREEN on powerup and it’ll unlock (General mode) after displaying “_” for a few seconds. To lock to just amateur (Part 97 mode) bands, hold PTT+5 on powerup. To see what mode it’s in simply just hold the 8 key on powerup. From working mode, long press 0 for voltage level.

Has anyone actually run one of these across a bench? I have two and found them to be inferior performers to an original UV-5R. The receivers aren't as sensitive on VHF. Power output is about the same. But the big difference is on UHF. The radios only put out a little over two watts compared to the UV-5R's 4 watts. The sensitivity is also considerably down from the older radios and even the VHF on the same radio. I tested both of the radios I have and they perform Identical. I first found this trying different antennas. The 3 UV-5Rs I have all were picking up a repeater about 15 miles away inside my home. The UV-17 Pro GPS radios would not. Not with the exact same antenna the UV-5R was using and sitting in the exact location. At first it appeared the squelch levels were set differently. But it ended up being sensitivity. The radios added features but is a step backwards in performance. Oh, the performance in the GRMS/FRS frequency ranges on the bench are even worse. I don't see them as serviceable on FRS/GMRS with the reduced sensitivity and the reduced power. Just use a UV-5r if in a pinch. There is a noticeable performance difference.

Sending and requesting GPS between two of these works great for me.
It's adding to more confusion with the use of V1 and V2. There's also a third, and possibly a fourth model.
Base model referred to as V1 has a sticker "uv-17'. GPS version has a sticker" uv-17 Pro ". Third model with full colour screen has a sticker" uv-17R " but doesn't have GPS.
Sellers are adding to the confusion with their naming.

I'm new to this type of radio. Was a UK CBer back in the 70s & 80s, before it was legalised on FM and afterwards, and watched it slide from incredibly exciting into obscurity. But tiny radios that receive lots of bands and even transmit on some, well that's a really groundbreaking thing for me.
Anyway, next spring I'm selling up, taking to my refurbished 55 year old 27' sailing boat and going off to see as much of the planet as I can. Therefore I decided to buy a cheap little modern Baofeng radio, and settled on the UV-17 Pro GPS. I need the GPS as back-up, and the other bands for entertainment. However, I didn't reckon with Baofeng's love of complicating the situation. If you want a UV 17 with all the top features, which I do, you are in difficulties as the quoted bands covered, power outputs, extras such as a USB C charge facility, colour screen etc do not all coincide on one model - as far as I can make out. Why? Well who the hell knows, but surely people clever enough to design and construct something like this for a very affordable price are surely too clever to mistakenly spread all the features over several models. Therefore they are expecting multiple sales of almost identical units to the same individual. How inconvenient to have to lug several radios around with you, and ensure all are charged and all are ready to work at their optimum. I don't get it Baofeng. Just make for us the 'fully-loaded' item and charge a bit extra. Stop being so daft.

Every time I post a detailed post about how to use the GPS and also link the English CPS, YT automatically deletes it. I hate YT. Short version, long press BLUE then short press GREEN to cycle GPS screens. Radio numbers are set by ANI-EDIT on radio and coorolate to DTMF settings in CPS. PTT sends coordinates and requests other 17 Pro GPS’s to automatically send theirs back.

16:00 Technical question: there are like 3 or 4 different ways to represent / write GPS coordinates, does it support switching them and support them all. For example one way is via decimal numbers, and another way is by degrees / minutes / seconds. You show the second form in minutes and seconds on the screen, but all my FPV quadcopter equipment actually uses the decimal version representation of lat long coords.

This radio annoys me more than most.
Yesterday I saw a Version 1 that had UV5R firmware. Your V1 has UV13 Pro firmware. Now we have a V2 radio...
I imagine this one will be the primary model. But I see blue screen models everywhere.
It makes me wonder if one of them is counterfeit.
Well not exactly "counterfeit" more "unauthorized."
There has to be at least a dozen OEM's that make Baofeng radios FOR Baofeng.
But they are also the source of some of the weird side models you see (uv8, uv9, Uv10, uv15, uv16... Etc) which are generally recased UV5R's.
    The 2 V1's I've seen are just UV5R and UV13 Pro's with a DM1701 screen.
Is either of them "factory" spec, or are they by subcontractors looking to dump some old stock in a new case and sell them for twice what they are worth?
We'll probably never know with the way Chinese radio companies work.
I am interested in this V2 model. I would like to see them update the firmware a bit for sync and maybe to give the GPS more functionality.
If done right, this could be Baofeng's entry into the big leagues.

Is this capable of operating in both digital and analog mode? Just like MOTOTRBO™ DP4800, Radioddity GD-73 and Baofeng DM-1701 which also have the message function? O_o

FYI as result of watching your video for this radio - I ordered one! Mine arrived with a completely unthreaded SMA connector on the radio, rendering it unusable. I contacted the seller, he blamed Baofeng, so I wrote to Baofeng support and they said its a SELLER issue. So catch 22. I have made a RUclips which will public in 24 hours (according to YouTUBE). So I guess it is a case of buyer beware. ruclips.net/video/SBNgW-0UXsQ/видео.html
