Full bottle-worthy! Sweetness is balanced by the saltiness so it doesn't overwhelm. And I love the blue colored liquid. Zoologist has some great fragrances. Other favorites are Moth, Nightingale and Elephant just to name a few.

Squid is on my short list... Great scent.
Had to grab Bee first, but this is top of the line, right along with it!

Does this have real ambergris in it, or is it synthetic?

    • @nathanpierre1868

synthetic but its the best synthesis of ambergis on the market tbh, nothing out here smells like this, nothing. I have this perfume, it is my signature. I am in an equilateral climate, 30 degrees centigrade all year round. One spray of this on my neck + two on my wrists, 3 sprays total lasts more than 8hrs on me as an arm's length silage. Which gives a sort of melted chocolate + iron smell i guess its the ink, what makes it pleasant to other people is the gingerbread like smell that the amber notes have.

This isnt aquatic, i know zoologists says that and the description says that and maybe even the perfumer, but it isnt. Proof? Blind test this (no description, no labelling nothing) on someone who is a perfume buff and ask them what they would categories the scent as. Aquatic wont even be in their lexicon. It is gourmand, gourmand marine. This perfume is a marine gourmand scent.
Aquatic scents are more light, vibrant, friendly and fresh. Marine scents are murkier, more mysterious, darker scents. This scent is marine, and the amber in it makes it gourmand also. Lie and tell me it doesnt remind you of gingerbread, go on, lie to me.

If people weren't so susceptible to self-indulgent, high-concept marketing bollocks and had no idea what this fragrance was meant to 'represent and imaginatively evoke' and were offered it blind to spray and test out there's NO WAY they'd be cooing over it the way they do. Just my opinion. There's just too much avant garde deliciousness out there and I find Zoologist fragrances mostly unwearable and embarrassing, with a few delightful exceptions. I tried with them, I really did, but...😞

Hahaah, brilliant! People are so weird online when they are emboldened by anonymity.

I can’t speak for other zoologist fragrances because I haven’t tried a lot of them, however I have to disagree with you on Squid. I have a bottle now and I 100% feel like they captured what they were going for. That tinge of brine is definitely present in the first few hours while wearing it. And having eaten squid ink pasta in the past I can guarantee you that inky note is accounted for. Now in the past would did I ever imagine I’d like wearing that smell on my body…no but here I am enjoying all it’s unique deep sea glory.

@@jordanpowell5839 What a great comment! Thanks for sharing your unexpected triumph with Squid, there really is something for everyone out there. I get a real kick out of pushing myself out of my comfort zone and giving everything a try too so I'll always champion creatives who are pushing the envelope; it's the only way we'll find our greatest treasures in life-- I'm happy to risk disappointment in the quest for my own version of "deep sea glory". What a fantastic phrase. :D PS= Fragrances which on paper read like a description of olfactory kryptonite so often delight me when I actually spray them on my person and I'm always so pleased that I gave it a try. Each trip outside my comfort zone makes me feel like I'm increasing both the size of my world and my understanding of it, concurrently.:) My latest surprise 'love' was 'Ambre Loup' by Rania J. And to think I almost threw the sample away...tsk tsk. I tried it one last time and it 'clicked' and I came home after work and ordered a bottle. Gorgeous. But, not everything available would please every person. I love hearing about what people love, as well as react badly to. Balance and proportion. Hope you have a great day, bye! :)

Gotta disagree, I impulse bought Squid this weekend (at Scent Bar when I visited my friend in NYC) bc I loved how it smelled on me. We'll see if that was a good decision but so far I'm really happy with it. I've heard of Zoologist but never tried learning more about them and I was so surprised by how pleasant and wearable this was. I find Squid to be positively delightful. It was marine without being typical or boring, while at the same time being comfortable and wearable. I tried out a couple of Zoologist perfumes there and they were far more pleasant than I thought they'd be, though I didn't try that many of them. I'm curious to test them out properly, maybe one of these days I'll get the full sample set; I love when fragrance houses have complete sets like that.
