Yeah, they've got to be getting rid of an overstock of Stompas because I can't imagine any new player having a fun time building that thing. It's pretty notorious for not being a well-fitting model.
As a relatively new Custodies player, that box indeed isn’t very good and it’s very much the fault of the bikes. The problem is even outside competitive the bikes don’t even have synergies with themselves and are so frail (by Custodes standards) that they don’t mean anything. You are basically just paying for the wardens, terminators, and the Captain at that point. Further making the matter worse is the fact that Custodies players are told to buy more than 1 copy of the combat patrol. So for most people it’s not +6 bikes, it’s a total of 12 bikes. Once upon a time that was fine, it’s not now with limited squad sizes. I’ll likely get the box only because my plan was to buy 2 warden boxes anyways and this gives me wardens and some terminators.
The worst part about the box is that it comes with 6 bikes, and assuming you also buy the combat patrol thats another 3 bikes. Having 9 bikes from 2 boxes to build an army is absurd. If you get 2 combat patrols (which i already dont recommend due to too many bikes and sisters of silence) you will have 12 bikes which is more bikes than you can legally run in a 2000 point army unless you make 3 of them shield captains. Absolutely stupid, for anyone who doesnt intend on playing competitive GW tournaments its just so much better to 3d print them/pay someone to 3d print them at this point.
@@actualwafflesenjoyer you go tell that to my friend who started to build his White Scar army in 7th ed and now has 0 legal units to play with , and maybe one that some could let him play with , if they just ignored a thunder hammer on a chaplain.
I'm quite hyped for the ork box and will buy it on release. I don't play games and just paint minis that look cool so the rules dont matter much. I've been picking up random boxes of orks here and there. From this box I only have the monopose boys that I got via the combat patrol. I wanted to get a Stompa and Trukk for a while but never got around to it due to stock issues or buying something else that looked cool at the time. This box has both items that i really want, a bunch of units that I don't already have and a discount. All in all it's almost perfect.
I'm sure others have said this, but the main problem with the battleforce having six bikes, speaking as someone who thinks the bikes are really cool, is that the Combat Patrol _already_ has three bikes. If you bought the Combat Patrol twice (which some people will recommend and others will advise against), you'll already have six bikes. If the bikes are suddenly buffed in the codex and they're fucking cracked, then cool, more power to you, but as it stands you're just getting so much of one specific unit that you're probably rarely going to want to run more than half of.
The Combat Patrol will very likely be refreshed when the codex comes out. The audience will likely be new Custodes players who they will want to buy this + the new Combat Patrol.
@@Verity98765what kind of a new player wants any jetbikes for his army? And it is not like GW in 10th turned any super horrible unit in to something you would want to take multiples of.
This Custodes box is almost perfect for me. With Watchers of the Gate + this + 2x Combat Patrols... I've got a decent start to Custodes. I'll then probably get a box of Wardens, Blade Guard and Talons, to round out the main range. Then I'll look into Rhinos/Land Raiders for transport. Hopefully I can figure out the paint scheme I want soon; it'll be grimdark gold/red. I've seen some great schemes and need to work out how to achieve them.
I think the custodes box is gonna come down to how the bikes are balanced. I already have 6 of them (from two combat patrols) and I doubt I will need 6 more, unless I make 3 of them into shield captains, which I guess could work. As for the rest of the box, it is perfect for me, fills out so I can have 3 max squads of Allarus, 3 max squads of wardens, and I get a cool new captain. Overall if the bikes seem even a little bit good, I am likely gonna pull the trigger on getting the box. Still on the fence about the codex though consider you can get all of the actually relevant information within from places like Goonhammer.
@@aqz7603 My thought excately, I am VERY willing to go full copium if they buff them somehow, until then, they will just have to look pretty on my shelves I guess.
People really have to let this idea go that "GW just is getting rid of old stock". This is not how it works, this is not how ANY of this works! GW is doing production runs of kits if and when they are needed. Stuff getting sent back from stores because it did not sell for too long is getting destroyed. If you actually believe GW is renting space to sit on piles of unsold boxes for months or years... well, to stay polite I will just say you are wrong.
Honestly, the Orks battleforce is weirdly perfect for me. I've been looking to get some Lootas, a trukk and a stompa, and more boyz is never a bad thing (can sell 'em if I don't paint 'em.)
As someone who was about to buy the Stompa as a painting project I was glad i hadn’t pulled the trigger just yet, i always thought that it would be a safe single purchase as it would never be included in a box…
Both boxes are really bad. No Custodes player needs six bikes, specially when they already have the old combat patrol box. And for the Orc player it's really weird to put a Stompa in the box that consumes so much "value" but if u don't need it the complete box will be useless.
Seems GW is unloading stock they cant get rid off thru these battleforces.. First it was the Outriders in the Space Marine Christmas Box, now they do Custodes Bikes and they even have the balls to put a Stompa in the Orks box. Majority of the response to the new Shield Captain has been horrible. The function of the model is nothing new and the look of it is extremely subpar. I would even say way below GW standards. My biggest question will be how the new Custodes Combat Patrol will look and if GW can find a way to make bikes interesting for Custodes..
I cannot imagine a veteran ork player wanting this battleforce unless they are getting a deep discount and maybe could use a few more boyz or a specialty mob or two. Veterans are going to have trukks, boyz, burnas, and lootas, and probably a lot more than they really need. Moreover given that these are the monopose boyz I can't imagine many players needing another set. For newer players, it might be interesting for a person's second army, but the stompa kit is not great for totally new players for all the reasons mentioned in the video. Now if they are selling the kit for super cheap... _maybe?_ I mean, who doesn't want to field an army called the 'Stompa Boyz'?
Btw I know GW has a release shedule but thst was alot "space marine-ny" stuff the last months. Would love to see more xeno-stuff. Specially Aeldari because some Phoenix Lords need updated minis and aspect warriors too.
I don't think there are any new or old custodes players who want more/any jetbikes . Baseline for custodes are 3 bricks of wardens and guard , sisters , heroes and FW stuff. Allarus, jetbikes etc are never taken . Veteran players will already have maxed bikes , if they played in 9th. If they build their army in 10th , they don't need them. New players don't need bikes , especialy after the ones in the patrol box.
The preview was to celebrate Warhammer World birthday. Just a bigger celebration than a normal warhammer store birthday. Ork model is amazing, Custard looks awful. Surprisingly like the look of both battleforces though.
Codex not out yet. But Big Meks give reroll 1s. Burners and Loota don't require. Flamers auto hit, Lootas already have re-roll 1s. I'm buying the new box for the truck and stompa discount. Stompa is a joke don't own one. Trucks can always use. Monoboyz is trash. Loota/burna is meh. Big Meks are kinda useless. Give Boyz/nobs reroll 1... so Pistol Shooting.
1. new SC looks meh. 2. too many bikes (casuals like me can have fun with them) 3. price is good 4. Basically improved Battle patrol but inferior Guardians of the Gate boxset 5. would rather a vehicle over the bikes but beggers cant be choosers. HOPEFULLY the new codex will buff the bikes and it seems its more oriented to casual or first time custodes army buiders. Not bad, not great. But for starters its better than BP in my opinion

Ogryn body with two mekcannons, hydraulics and plate.
Why buy it?
7:32 not just the weapon, but the entire shape design language. And also the fact that we knew a Custodes codex was inbound.
If you had told me an Ork discount box would've included a Stompa I'd have called you crazy. Jesus Christ...

I recommend paying people to 3d print you models for a fraction of the cost if you dont care about the game itself
