In 2022, Sri Lanka faced its worst economic crisis ever. The island nation declared bankruptcy and had to be bailed out by the IMF (International Monetary Fund). So how is the situation two years later? All headlines say the economy is doing better. Inflation is going down and all the markers look positive. But what do the people think? As economy remains the biggest issue on the ballot, we took this question to the people of Sri Lanka. Palki Sharma brings you the voices from the ground.

If you’re referring to the bond scam it certainly did hinder the economy it contributed to the erosion of trust in financial management and raised Sri Lanka’s borrowing costs. However, the reserves crisis was more a result of poor fiscal management, unsustainable borrowing, economic shocks (like COVID-19), and long-term structural weaknesses in the economy rather than the bond scam alone. The scam played a part, but it was one of many factors in a broader crisis.
All this resulted in us running out of reserves entirely that led to the devastating crisis.
Parki you should tell your viewers who is responsible for this. You are fair enough to see the Rajapaksha’s. But you smartly unsee or mask the Wicremasinghe. He was in politics for nearly five decades and been the prime minister for 5 times. Don’t be bias. Tell the truth. People have spoken clearly in India and it will happen in Sri Lanka. Media can’t fool people any more. People are becoming smarter as your foreign minister Jayshankar. He is a role model for change.

What many do not realise is that progress is not always a straight line. Yes Gotabhaya is a mistake. People realised it and trying again.
Generally South Asians are afraid to fail. Sri Lankans are much different and they are trying different options which is commendable.

Economy is not the main focus of this election for voters from my region (Sabaragamuwa). Almost everyone i met wants to end this cycle of voting in crooks, incompetents and thugs to power. Economy is number 2. If you saw who was seated at Ranils and Sajiths stages, you'd have noticed its the same faces who bankrupted the nation. This time, people will elect someone new and give them power. If they also go down the same path, you can expect Aragalaya part 2 five years later. Sri Lankan people now knows their power. Time of taking us for fools and for granted are over.
Ranil is the xaviour all the time.throughout the history he has shown his knowledge talents and abilities to save the country.
But the question is whether the bitter pill is used for the benefit of the needy people .

The only mistake Rajapakshe would have done was to stick with China but believing india was the biggest mistake and making his first trip to please the cunning neighbour was another . Now assets are sold to Indian companies and no complaints from Palki and Co. With the Indian involved regime change in 2015 was one more disaster and getting a idiot to the seat of presidency ( 2015) another disaster and stopping the biggest investment of port city delays cost the country millions behest of India ( Since 2015 regime change was Indian sponsored) it was all about China in Sri Lanka but nothing about Sri Lanka . All bills and price of foods was so high at 2022, but now all prices recusing continuously with the time. For example in 2022 there was no cement to buy for constructions, in 2003 50kg cement bag was 3000LKR but now the price of a cement bag is 1900LKR. So RANIL IS THE BEST OPTION WE HAVE
