There are a couple pages written on this song, in the book "your brain on music" by Daniel Levitin! it talks about how it 'violates rhythmic expectations' and the psychological effects thereof
bonzoleum TerryKeatingDrums Terry, when you get the chance, 'cause I know your busy right now, but pleaseeeeeee make a new Copeland Gear vid and more Police lessons please. And also if you could do a proper tour of all of your drum sets, when you get the chance. Keep up the fantastic work!
Terry, I just want you to know how much I enjoy your personality! You are awesome! I have learned a whole lot of drummin' from you and I thank you for that and for your enthusiasm. Keep it coming. You rock!
Thanks Jim! I'm sure you've seen that footage of the Police playing away, and Summers turns around panic-stricken and screams to Copeland : "SLOW DOWN"!
Terry, glad to see this new channel, love bonzoleum! Thank-you for all your information, laughs, and insights! Keep it up! oh and your not playing a set of Tama Imperialstars either!!!! lol
Like the tongue-of-concentration. Just like MJ. Must be a Chi-town thang. Police songs are a great idea for non-Bon channel; they are some of the most divergent from standard rock paradigm. Don't sweat rushing the end. Copeland live trademark.
I don't mind the talking. I'm just trying to find enough of the rhythm to sing it properly without constantly coming in a beat behind. (Edit: Still can't do it. Ack. Hopeless.)
I imagine you already have, but if not, check out the channel stewartcopelandnet. He has the money, energy & musical talent to set up this wonderful music space in his house, and then great musicians stop by and jam.
Thanks for the videos, Terry -- I've been going through a bunch of them since I started playing again for the first time in 20 years, and it's been fun. One thing I keep noticing is that we can't hear you immediately after you give a demo on the drums. Often your voice is really quiet for 10-20 seconds after (some kind of clipping on your recording?)
Wow, that was painful to watch. Here's what it took him 8 minutes to say: 1. Intro starts on the 3 beat. 2. Verse: kick is on 2 and 4 Here's what he didn't tell you: 3. Chorus: Kick is on 1 and 3. I'm glad I'm a bass player.

Hi Terry, you are hilarious. Thanks for the fun lesson and commentary.
Thanks. It’s the mix that causes the headfk with regards to where the 1 is. The synth is mixed way too loud. It’s nuts!
This is dope as hell! You killed it sir.
