the DATACRIME II virus is a very SERIOUS THREAT that will ANNIHILATE YOUR COMPUTER AND MANKIND AS WE KNOW IT, but actually it probably won't, for eyewitness news I'm danooct1.
youtube source of news footage: • nVir and DataCrime II ...
Don't do the datacrime if you can't do the datatime
Great
Lmao that actually made me chuckle
commit run datadate.exe
Datacution
Don't do the datacrime II if you can't do the datatime too
Danooct would make a dope history teacher.
History of dope?
Like a cyber security professor that has a class on the history of malware.
So... would he make a dope history teacher or a dope history teacher?
@@detliking9847 A dope history teacher, not a dope history teacher.
Hope that helps!
@@DDaRick what
Dan has gone from running viruses and having them not work, to running viruses and having them be bugged anyway.
whoa... things like this existed back in 1989?! thats crazy..
I'm picturing some guy as he types "CRIME" onto DOS and goes "heh...watch this...." immediately getting targeted by a SWAT team and snipers.
Pretty sure this is the plot to HACKERS
"Datacrime" sounds like the most stereotypically retro 80's cyberpunk inspired name ever.
All this was missing was some movie meant to capitalize on the fearmongering about some malevolent computer virus that turns computers evil and they go around killing people or something.
Maximum Overdrive lol!
The fact that the guy in the new report straight up add spaces before typing in the name and then follows it up by simply pressing enter multiple times without the name shows that they are a support scammer using MS-DOS, trying to destroy the pc and is probably getting angry as nothing happens.
Imagine your virus generating such a scare that it makes the news and it doesn’t even work properly
Tbf it was the second one that was reported on...which was actually pretty damaging for the few infected people.
If 1 had actually worked it'd have potentially been a lot bigger of aj issue.
this virus is old; might be because of that
You'd feel miserable but you'd not be able to tell anyone how you feel, which would make you more miserable.
Hey Dan, been loving the new content lately. Sounds like you're having a lot of fun making them too so that's good.
"RUclips grew up watching danooct1. It still does"
Lmao the Packard Bell slogan
Really enjoying the subtitles:
"A drive brrrrrr brrrrrr"
"B drive BRRRRRR BRRRRRRR"
I really appreciate the subtitles, even as someone whose hearing is okay I tend to have them on, and the little gags are great, not to mention the explanations of what various sounds coming from the hardware actually /mean/.
thanks to you i will never watch dan without subtitles
I see that I've been missing out. I ended up watching the video a second time just to read the subtitles.
It's always funny to see news broadcasts from the early days of home computing having to (badly) explain things that are now common knowledge like what a computer virus is and does because the average person didn't regularly use anything more technologically complex than over-the-air television.
still true now
I like how active the channel’s been lately, great work!
I love it.
Yus
don't jinx it pls
LeviathanRX haha. Fingers crossed
Even if you aren't hard of hearing, turn on the captions. You won't regret it lol
What an interesting title for a virus! From now on I'll make sure to never type " Datamine II" on any of my PCs!
This one has big "When Viruses Fail" energy.
New installment when?
I find this interesting as it seems like there was constant media hysteria in the late 1980s and early 1990s about DOS viruses that threatened to ruin your hard drive... but then ended up either not being widespread or failing to activate destructively. This reminds me of the Michelangelo video you did a while back where there was similarly a large about of hysteria about the virus before its first payload date came.
From this channel I've learned that virus developers in the 80s and 90s never tested their software
fearmongering
fear turns out can be manufactured and sold for quite a high price, and then when fed to humans, produces even more money.
Big respect to your computer, man. Been through so much shit over the years and still trucking!
There is no virus a system format won't fix.
@@kupokinzyt expect for recent ones because they were more weak to viruses.
@@kupokinzyt UEFI rootkits lol
The good ol days when viruses often had ridiculous bugs like this, likely stemming from the author not wanting to screw up his or her own PC.
The 1989 version of your launch announcement linking everyone to your dev server
Yeah, there were no VMs back then
Prehistoric coding is very simple, nowadays viruses do more than just destroy computers.
The scare spread was really wide, my grandfather still have the rule of not turning on the computer on Friday the 13th back in the mid 90s in China. When the computer cost more than the place we lived in.
Though I'm sure there's not a lot of interesting virus story footage from back in the day, I appreciate that you included it. I'm sure it all amounts to like you said, fear and panic etc but it's kind of nice to have it in context. Always love your uploads, Dan :)
i'm just surprised the author fixed the bug and you didn't have to do it for them [again]. very amusing as usual. and i love these (weirdly nostalgic) news clips.
For some reason, DataCrime just reminds me of "Piracy. It's a Crime" video.
*You wouldn't run a COM file*
Just wanted to say that you were one of the channels that started my love for computers oh so many years ago, and this is the first video you’ve released since I started my first job as a software developer :D
I can assure you... that news report sounded a hell of a lot more interesting than anything that shows up today. We need to get back to then. Great video!
I know that news footage is absolute bull, but often it's due to time constraints and necessity. I know a guy who works as an editor at a TV, and he told me sometimes you just need some 5 seconds of passable footage jusr to "fill it in". He recounted that at one point he had to edit this bomn threat news, but due to the lack of footage, he resorted to put in a recording of the game "Just Cause 2" to reach the 30 second mark.
After all, the news segment is only used once, and no one really watch the footage anyway (paraphrasing his words)
Love the effort put into the subtitles, great stuff 👏
Can't wait for the datacrime trilogy to be completed, George R. R. martin is really taking their sweet time with this one
Babe wake up, new danooct1 video
This is the first comment in the comment section.
Can I just say I always love the care put into the subtitles to give it personality. Sometimes snarky, sometimes just obliviously cheery. I appreciate the effort and find it adorable and amazing.
Your videos are the only notifications that I drop what I’m doing and click
“If you can’t do the time, don’t do data-crime”
Love the history bit of the virus. Guess most viruses never hit the headlines, but still.
Excelente sin dudas. Me gusta tu contenido, y la posibilidad de traducirlo automaticamente a mi idioma, lo hace más disfrutale. Felicidades y excelente contenido.
I like how this guy is doing more fascinating 9x/DOS viruses.
This is such an awesome video! Love the extra detail in research with the media coverage, that's so awesome to see. When I used to research virus stuff I would always be fascinated by the reaction of the time and the impact
These videos are my secret pleasure.
i loveeeeeeee when you incorporate news clips man! would love to see more of that
Everytime i watch a danooct1 video i think of my favorite band: the hard drive on a Packard bell machine going absolutely nuts because it was infected with a virus(or thdpbmgabiwav for short)
Was just binging your old videos. Thanks for awesome years worth of content!
Love to see you more active than before. Again, the subtitles rock.
whats the oldest virus you have ever showcased?
Brain, the first IBM PC virus from 1986: ruclips.net/video/nuzrxQgvJS0/видео.html
I love the superiority in this video so much lmao
Wait... Did the journalists just develop the lamest virus just for a friday 13th prank that in the end did, like, >1% damage?
"America Grew Up Listening To Us, They Still Do"
The media making a sensation out of a thing that didn’t really do much?! They would never! They have higher standards than that!
Awesome video as always! And the captions are appreciated as always, if you're watching this without subtitles you're watching half of the video.
Whoever is doing the captions; thank you. You probably have a fun time doing it lol
I feel like the name "datacrime" would scare certain people
Finally, Dan is active on this channel a lot.
I've never been this early for anything in my life.
Keep up the good work ✌️
I love the captions on these videos
I love often media retractions sum up to "just kidding lmao".
Danooct1 is the reason why I'm interested in those type of things
The reason it stopped beeping is probably because it deleted the beeper's driver
The whole point of this Chicken Little style reporting is to scare people into buying antivirus software which worked. Alan Solomon had similar success over here with this approach.
The perfect birthday gift when I wake up, a danooct1 video :)
happy birthday brother
News got to make you scared to make you watch to get that AD money....
When it comes to the news nothing's ever changed.
This is something i will get recommended around ten years later so hello future me
It's very quaint and kinda cute compared to actual computer malware today.
the dude who created this virus is now probably 60
Don't do the datacrime if you can't do the datatime. I like how active the channel’s been lately, great work!.
what's model of your floppy drive ? sorry for my bad english ^^
Love her fucking hair dude. 80s fashion is just so lovely.
Wow Pony Island 2 looks dope
C:\DOS> Pony Island 2

@danooct1 Today is the 32nd anniversary of Michelangelo Virus! This Virus is like Michelangelo!! (don't know if it's 32nd or 31st)
.... I don't think I've ever been exposed to more information about the seektest.
DATACRIME III when !?
Soon. Very soon.
Has been shut down. Keep it down . Long enough. No need forever. Coordonate with Mr.S.
Recommandation useful.
ok, damn, that twist at the end
Always a good day when you upload
5:49 I can think of malware that does things worse than zeroing out the first 2 sectors of the hard drive. For example, CIH's payload first zeroes out the partition table... FOLLOWED BY THE BIOS.
Sending PCs to "sickbeds"? Do they need IVs? 😆 more to my repair guy's workbench LOL
surprisingly, this video comes up when you search Terry Davis
Virus.DOS.Thoughtcrime when
I'm watching danooct1 over the telephone line.
Datacrime is very panicking. It happened in the news, and it scares me.
I miss qbasic. back when programming was simple and fun
Why yes Subtitled Dan, I have been enjoying this video!
Lol I wanted to see the reaction of hackers when they found out that they messed up the format routine
I love the subtitles so much lol
Hearing the word "hype" from 1989 is so weird. I know it's always been a word, but it's just so overused in todays world.
I'm glad you are uploading again :)
Dan, are you okay? This regular upload schedule worries me.
He's in a way happier mood in general, also seen on the closed captions. I am glad he's been doing well, seeing I watch him quietly for years. :)
@@N0obyN0ob Yeah, was more of a joke, I saw and love the captions too :D
I'm actually surprised you didn't run out of viruses for your video yet, you're still able to find something "new".
Scare is the most deadliest virus after all.
Very scary looking, but not really. All the fear and panic was clearly not worth it.
DIRECT ACTION ✊✊✊✊
Glad he's back!
hey dan! i don't know if you read these comments but i just wanted to let you know that i cited your video in my extended essay about stuxnet for ib :D if i remember correctly, i think you said at one point that you did ib so i guess i just wanted to let you know as someone who's currently trying to earn my diploma too. thanks for being awesome!!
oh wow, nice. good luck on your results. from what I remember I did not do very well on mine lol
Less go another video!!
datacrime sounds like the most stereotypical virus name
They still do this in the media, but the name starts with a C and ends with a D.
Hey dan i wondered if u could still submit viewer made malware? I have a peice and would like to send it to u.
Can you please make a video about W32.Lirva virus?
Weekly uploads again! Nice
I was like oh no the computers destroyed he’s pressing f3😂
Thanks for uploading, Dan
You're welcome
