More discerning viewers will notice that DOSKEY is a COM file, not an EXE, and thus executing it/expecting it to do anything related to an EXE infecting virus is an effort in futility. That's what I get for assuming it gets infected without actually checking the extension/file size. Let that be an important lesson to all of you - like the old saying goes, if you assume, then you don't get your computer infected by a virus that threatens to cut you into little pieces. Or something, I don't know.

We need a malware tier list from Dan. S tier is the best malware, while F-Tier is bad or doesn't work.

@@biddyfox One of my favorites would actually be (if he could get it to work, unfortunately) CMOSDead, which is actually even creeper not on a VM but on a standalone. Unfortunately, I've never even been able to get it to work at all, and I think Dan barely got his to work for his video on the VM. Although, Amoeba, SSR, Tequila, and Parrot (I actually requested it many years before he actually did it) are some of my favorites.

@@Rople50 more creative and less dangerous. In the DOS days many of them was pranks. Today is always the same: stole info, encript info, and really fuck everyones life.

love a creepy little virus like this. just a nice little subtle freaky message, especially in the fact that it only displays the message once. very good. this would make me even more scared of my computer's hidden thoughts as a kid
The message is actually a reference to the Pink Floyd song One of These Days, where the only lyric is "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces". I guess the virus author was a Pink Floyd fan at the time

I have watched your videos since like 2015 when I discovered the channel and every now and then re-watch my favorite malware reviewed on the channel.
If it wasn't for you, I would have not been as interested in Windows 9x and MS-DOS as I am now. My first computer ever had Windows XP on it, and I used it at age 5.
Almost every day now I'm playing games or listening to music designed for DOS for how much I learned how to use these beauties, most knowledge from your channel.
Thanks for paving my smarts for vintage machines. Old malware is an extremely underrated subject and is overshadowed by many present-day activities and such.
We are truly blessed, you're posting more than you used to.

If it wasn't for your videos, many of these mostly hilarious and entertaining creations of some of the most infamous malware authors would have been consigned to history long ago (the majority of AV firms no longer keep records in their encyclopedias regarding these older pieces (see what I did there?)) Either way... you and Rogueamp are our last hope at keeping this side of the tech industry, for lack of a better word, alive.
Malware Wiki is a fascinating historic encyclopedia of vintage/obscure viruses over the decades. It even has entries about the hackers/teams themselves. I think all the ones in Dan's videos have articles on there.

Back when viruses were just annoying and didn't try to ruin your life.
More like back when viruses tried to destroy your computer so you had to spend money to get it back, rather than asking for you to pay them to give your computer back. It's honestly depressing how most modern viruses are nothing but Ransomwares, Adwares, Spywares, Rogues and a Trojan here and there. No more infected Word/Excel macros, no more Email Worms, no more "virus that masquerades as Paint or screensaver". It's always virus authors trying to either earn some money or find a way to look through your webcam. Sure, nobody likes viruses, but back then, virus authors wanted to make a statement or something, usually someone who got booted out of an important company and decided to get revenge on them.

I have my family's old Amiga 500 with a virus on it, haven't looked into it at all though. I just remember it crashing games randomly or something back in the day, And that my brother tried to get rid of it with some anti-virus software for Amiga but never succeeded. Virus came from a pirated SimCity game haha
Did you had clean backup of this installed games? The virus can contaminate all your executable files on hard disk, the only way to get rid of this is format your drive, reinstall the system and re-install your games with clean copies of them!
PS: Before begin install games, install an antivirus software and put the last available vaccine on the AV's proper directory, you don't know how more games can be the a virus source.
Just a hint: If you tried run the antivirus from a diskette, you didn't had boot the computer from a diskette with a bootable antivirus, and this diskette wasn't protected against writing, congratulations 👏, your AV diskette is also infected and the AV don't longer do for anything anymore!
