It's good to know the Germans don't overcomplicate things. Good Lord I'm glad I watched this video before I actually had an issue, lol.

A friend of mine has a dentist who is also a part-time proctologist. Every time he goes to get root canal or a tooth filled he has to drop his pants, bend over a low table, and spread his cheeks. This reminds me of that.
Why didn't BMW just drill a small hole in the rear bumper where you can insert the business end of the jack handle and crank it up or down? It ain't rocket surgery, peoples...

When has a German product been simple and easy? It's in their DNA to make things complex and convoluted.

    Still useful in 2022
I might have eventually worked out how to release it, but I doubt I'd have ever found the locknut that was preventing it from dropping!
    Thanks 👍

Why would you pull an engine with 80K miles and tear it down without checking crank, installing new rod and main bearings, re-ringing it, and ensure all pistons (cast) were in good enough shape to handle more power? I would have done that…and added forged pistons with new rings and bearings, honed or bored cylinders. Also checked cranked and polished it if it did not need turning. The additional cost isn’t that much more and the bottom end is so critical, especially at 80K miles.
