One thing I was happy to see was people pointing out the poor seeding for this tournament BEFORE their favorite player lost or an upset occured. The critique of the seeding wasn't a knee jerk reaction to a certain match, it was just a response to TERRIBLE fucking seeding.
In kind of a messed up way, I’m happy mango beat Zain, hbox lost to amsa, leffen got upset twice, etc, just to vindicate the people who were complaining about the seeding. It feels like karma for whoever picked the seeds
Here's a real example of why tournaments should not keep strict seeding: Back in ~2010, MDVA tournaments was very commonly 1. Chu (ICs), 2. Chillin (Fox), 3. DoH (Peach). Obviously DoH had a very good chance of beating Chu but as "strict seeding" was enforced, Chillin would always be the one eliminating DoH and DoH would literally never have a single chance against Chu unless he beat Chillin. Chu and Chillin would also often split after meeting in GF after DoH was double eliminated by Chillin. A big part of the "seeding" this tourney was to make matchups you usually don't see, and it allows things like Wally requesting a lower seed to beat Zain in winners at Smashcon.
Scar and Toph are forever the best caster duo. Toph is just so great with his ability to break things down on a technical level and Scar reads the flow of a match like a book, and together they hype off each other so much.
are they gonna talk about how insane mang0's movement out of CC is in this set, or the fact that he has grabbed about 10000 times when he normally grabs like 3 or 4 times in a set
@@sotonamispams Lol I forgot mang0 was ranked 11th in the summer rankings. Crazy that if he won TBH he would probably be 2nd right now and even having lost has a strong argument for top 3.
Every tournament... Mango introduces a different unique playstyle and this one involves him throwing in lasers implemented into his combos. He may not have been 1st at this tournament, but he definitely showed huge potential with his flow, speed, and energy. You can definitely see it this time around. Great tournament all around and definitely amazing that Amsa won this one!
11:40 this is the only time I have ever seen mango backthrow with fox for real. And it was a huge factor in deciding the set. I really hope we get this mango in 2024 the mango that really wants to win just hits different man. Like sometimes he tries his heart out and loses cuz that's just how it goes but man when he's willing to do "lame" stuff he's actually so much sicker to watch than when he stubbornly approaches too much and isn't willing to do stuff like that. He's still playing mad sick and so different than anyone else and you can just feel the fire. Luv his fox so much.
Around 2020 and 2021 the Storyline was Mang0 vs Zain and it was usually on Winner finals and Grand Finals Panelist , seeders an TOs i dont know what they smoke to have these two at Winner Quarters when the set itself is literally a grand finals Considering that Mang0 , Hbox and Zain are the 3 players that are winning everything since Wavedash.
Zain lost twice on FD to mango as fox and then lost the second set by a frame or two, resulting in him losing the biggest prize pool of any smash event at its time. He's also been losing to Jmook but he reverse 3-0d him this tourney. Zain will be fine. What's the top of the summit without a few scars from your journey up there?
Actually most everyone in top play has figured out that if you avoid the up hit on ledge recovery from Marth there is a small window within which you can grab ledge faster than Marth can.... (Sheik and Fox Mains have figured this out). With Fox shine you can pretty much always guarantee that upon avoidance of said uphit on Marth recovery you can gimp Marth on his attempt to snap to ledge (aptly demonstrated in Mang0's 3 stock consecutive take from Zain's Marth)
What a way to start sunday ! People talk about 3-0 not telling the whole story when all the games are close, but it's the first time i've witnessed a game 5 not telling the whole story !
Yes the seeding was bad. But I do think first and second place were the two best players this weekend in the correct order. 3-8 there's some mixing and matching, but in all, this tournament ended up pretty amazing
Mang0 has adapted to Zain by prematurely executing up B to singe Zain on his attempt to gimp with a forward air when Fox is off stage. Another adaption is upon dash back immediate forward dash grab attempt by Zain Mang0 does a hop and back airs, thwarting the attempted Grab and also getting some % on the board (you can't z grab fully airborne characters in melee above a certain height w/ a Hitbox out)
damn mang0's edgeguard success rate is insanely impressive but i'm honestly disappointed. toph said zain was playing out of his mind all day but he was full spaghetti this set. game 5 some of the sloppiest zain play i've seen in awhile
13 minutes, 5 games. We are witnessing the gameplay we always knew was possible. A shame it had to be in winners quarters. Bracket seeding is bullshit.
The mangle at 12:50 was crazy and Mango played sick but I think the result was more from Zain fumbling the bag. If Zain was on point it would have been last stock last hit.
