With the Los Angeles Kings vs Edmonton Oilers series ending early in 5 games, the LA Kings future is looking muddy as they start to make BIG decisions about their future this offseason...
One name that once again brought up was Pierre-Luc Dubois, who has a pitiful playoff series vs Edmonton, accounting for just 1 goal and 20 penalty minutes in 5 games.
Now the latest NHL news is coming out about Dubois' Kings future, and for the potential of not just a trade, but a full blown BUYOUT for Pierre-Luc Dubois... Let's talk about it.

The worst part of the PLD deal was the impact on goaltending. Blake moved Quick and Petersen out saving 10.5 mil. He then signed PLD for 8.5 mil. Since Blake was now up against the salary cap, it left him only 2.5 mil for the goaltenders. Common sense tells you that you can't go from 10.5 to 2.5 and expect the goaltending to be better. Next year, the Kings have 14 players going UFA or RFA, but their combined cap hit is only 19 mil. The Kings have to figure out how to fill 14 slots, including both goalies, for 19-21 mil. They won't be able to afford to resign Roy or Arvidsson unless they take the same deals they currently have. Byfield is also due for a substantial raise from his current 875k entry deal. Stand by Kings fans, we are going to be fielding an AHL team next season.

    To MTL :
    Dubois (8.5M x 7y)
    To LAK:
    Gallagher (6.5Mx3y)
    Anderson (5.5Mx3y)
LA gets a higher cap hit but for way less term + its 2 players Bergevin liked
MTL gets a hometown younger player with longer term. Cap hit is individually bigger but they get more flexibility over the next years.

The 1 thing the Kings were supposed to have was an extremely bright future but now with most of their "top" prospects that were highly toughted 2-3 years ago not panning out the pipeline is getting dry and don't seem to be getting developed very well plus some questionable decisions with contracts and heading into this season with thise goalies idk surprised he still is employed by the Kings

I want to say give PLD’s production this year a write-off, but year after year after year the guy just doesn’t have the heart to play those games when the going gets tough. It’s too bad because if he had the will, he would be such a dominant player. What’s even more frustrating is that he’s on an LA team with arguably one of the best defensive-minded forward in Kopitar that I would hope it would have sparked PLD to play a similar style to Kopitar’s and even Danault’s game. Very disappointing.

We have a very Pittsburgh Penguins-like scenario here. While we can compete, there's really no moving back to contender status with this core and our lack of cap space. Kopitar and Doughty still have gas left in the tank and likely wouldn't want anything to do with a rebuild, and if they get traded the fans would call for Rob Blake's head, so do we keep compromising the future for first round exits until they retire? Even a retool might be difficult with how much money is being invested in Fiala, Danault, Kempe, Doughty, Kopitar, Dubois and soon Byfield. I really wish we would have been patient the first time. It was clear that the goal was to exit the rebuild ASAP when Blake started spending in 2021 as soon as cap space became available and the team wasn't slow and ancient anymore. Maybe if we stayed the course for a few more years we would have had more young talent and our players from the mostly disappointing prospect pool that was once seen as the best in the league might have been able to see some real NHL ice time instead of being stuck in the AHL having their development ruined. We'd be coming out of the rebuild with much more flexibility and a sustainable, promising team that Kopi and Doughty could have still been a part of.

Sorry but BLD is one of the most overrated players I’ve ever seen. He’s never done a single thing to garner a contract like what he has. Such a piss poor attitude and lack of dedication. Dude doesn’t look like he cares or tries. Is he talented when he does try? Sure but even then he’s not worth that much. If I’m another squad I wouldn’t take him even if his salary was half that. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was out of the league earlier than he should be because of the off ice issues

First off Blake goes. Worst trade-signing in Kings history. I get the reasoning of the Quick trade if Blake was simply going by his numbers. Problem is Quick is more beloved by the fans in LA than 99 himself. PLD cannot be traded now even if he lifted his no trade clause to do it. Nobody wants this contract. As I see this, only two possibilities are available now. 1) Buyout and 2) Give him ice time, take the 1-3-1 out and hope he finds his grove. I go for the 2 option here. It's not PLD's fault this happened, that rests solely on Blake's shoulders. The 1-3-1 is one hard system to learn ESPECIALLY on a new team where no chemistry has been created yet. Oh and not to mention the UFA problem as of right now with the Kings. Arvidson and Roy are MUST keeps and no offers all season = 2 pissed off players going to free agency. Blake is to the Kings as the Ice burg was to the Titanic.

I have the feeling you don't like Pierre. I don't know much about him but because of this video I took a look at his stats. It looks like he has been pretty consistent his whole career, he looks like his avg is 40 pts a year. I imagine Winnipeg figured that out and got rid of him. LA's GM must have figure new surroundings with the right people would increase his production but he just proved the Jets were accurate.
As far as you jumping on his penalties I don't think you looked too deeply into it. Over the last 4 decades I've noticed that the guy given the task of shadowing the star of the opposition if he isn't that good at it he gets a lot of penalties. His penalties appear to be holding or whatever on McDavid or Draisaitl and fighting with Bouchard. Not sure, isn't that the Oilers 3 of 4 stars that they depend on? His big penalty production was one game in which they gave him the extra 2 and a misconduct in a shoving match involving 4 players. Looking at the scoring the Oilers did in that series I think the only thing they discussed about Dubois was "don't worry about him, he can't score." If they buy him out I hope the Leafs grab him for their 4th line, but not for the reason LA got him for, hoping he gets them past the Oilers like you suggested.

  • @jclvmanagement7848

It's obvious guys like Dubois and Huberdeau sign these once in a life time deals offered to them by sucker dumb GMs willing to give it to them. These guys can't stand the team they're playing for, but will gladly take the money and if it doesn't work out they couldn't care less they'll gladly take the buy out and sign with a team they actually want to play for for a lot less money because they've already got top up income coming in from the buy out. It's an obvious strategic formula constructed by their agent and stupid GMs keep falling for it hook, line and sinker. That's precisely why Blake will be fired this summer if not sooner. Holland did the same thing with Campbell. The difference between Holland and Blake is that Holland somehow magically pulled a bunch of fucking rabbits out of the hat and made a legit Stanley Cup contending team. Which further illustrates the point that there are dumb GMs and then there are super dumb GMs. Blake falls in the category of super dumb. Not exactly a flattering description to have on your franchise business card.

Definitely management and coaching has some of the blame. Not well used and coach didn't seem to know how to utilize him and get the best out of his forward. He's definitely overpaid by about 1.5 million, but at 7 million, playing either on wing or as a second line center, he should be able to have an impact. He's definitely not an elite player, but coach should be able to get more out of his players.
