wicked solution, happened to have a 220uFd Cap rated for 16V hanging out on an old PC part.
To anyone curious the voltage rating of the capacitor needs to be AT LEAST 10V but is certainly allowed to be higher.
    Solution worked imediately, thank you!

Awesome. Just finished the repair. Works perfect. For information sake the old 220 uF capacitor had a capacitance of 243.0 uF. Replaced it with a 220uF 25v capacitor. Powered it up and now it synced and allowed data input to the PS3.

Just wanted to say thank you!
Pulled out my guitar from 10 years ago as my son is now old enough to play (8). It did not sync with the dongle so I searched online and came up on your video. I order the capacitor, took the old one off, solder the new one, and it synced right away!! Thank you again!!!

This solution worked for me. Both the guitar controller and dongle would blink like normal, but they would not sync. The original capacitor was oozing black stuff. Changed it with a 220uF 10V cap from an old alarm clock and now the controller syncs. Thank you very much for making this video!

So proud of myself, thank you for giving me the confidence to get started and I have to say it was doable and accessible, I did it in thirty minutes, the capacitor was faulty after all these years and was no longer synchronizing... here it is resurrected and it's great. I recommend using the braid to remove the tin as well as a third hand which is very useful for holding the printed circuit.

Thanks alot Brother, it worked. Pretty stoked that I don't have to buy a guitar again. Haven't played in over 2-3 years and felt the urge and it wouldn't work. Did your fix, cost me less than a buck for the capacitor and literally 10-15 minutes of work. Good gouge! And I think your theory of leaving batteries in for long period of time was what killed the cap. Respectfully, KosmoSVT

  • @nandakoryaaa
    @nandakoryaaa 5 лет назад +3

I confirm that this method works! A big thank to you good man! Just repaired my guitar. I used 220uF 35v capacitor which is bigger and it has different distance between legs so it cannot be placed snug on board. I had to leave considerable length of legs and then I bent them so capacitor would lay on its side. But there is a catch: the guitar case has a standoff for the screw that goes near the capacitor and I had trouble closing the case. If you use non-standard size capacitor, it is best not to solder it directly but solder just the wires and then solder capacitor to the wires so you can put the capacitor away from the standoff. Also I had one of the solder pads peeled off. I have decent solder skills and I know it wasn't my fault. Probably the connection error was not caused by bad capacitor, but by this peeled pad. I checked the old capacitor and it was ok. In the end I had to also put an additional wire to restore the PCB trace. All is fine now.

23 March 2018,I have two guitars that would not sync, they had worked before they sat (Duracell batteries still installed) for over 4 years. My daughter came to visit and she wanted to play the game, like old times. No matter what I did, they wouldn’t sync. I looked all over the internet and youtube and there are no good fixes... except this video. This video IS the sync repair. Watched the video, I bought a 5 pack of 10v 220uF (microFarad) capacitors for .99 plus 3.83 shipping ($4.82) from eBay and replaced them as the instructions speedbump49 illustrated and it fixed the sync issue. When I opened the guitar up, the caps did not have any typical failure signs of bulging or popped tops. So I became very skeptical. At this point I had nothing to lose so I replaced them anyway. I plugged the two, guitar pick shaped, dongles into my PS3 and installed fresh batteries into the first guitar and before I could even push the sync buttons I had a solid channel 1 light! I put fresh batteries in the other guitar and the same thing, I didn’t have a chance to sync and it had a solid channel 2 light. While my daughter had already traveled back to her home, I was able to play with my son who was very receptive to Guitar Hero (R)! If you have a guitar that had batteries in them when it went to the side for the new game, this may be your fix! It fixed mine. The only thing I wish I had was a solder sucker or bulb which would have made removing and replacing the capacitors much easier. To get solider out of the holes and off the standoff connectors. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏼

Hey Matt, why the doubt? I had two dead controllers, fixed them both with the capacitor replacement. I used rechargeable batteries and I think that was a root cause, others may have same issue, therefore same fix is available for them. I went from dead controllers to working great controllers with this fix. My controllers LED's would flash, try to sync, but would never connect until I replaced the capacitors as in this video. Just sharing my results.

Merci 1000 fois. Coût de l'opération : 0,40 € !

It worked with the PS3 guitar, thanks :) I replaced it by a new one of 220µF 16V.
Btw if you try to read the values of your "dead" capacitor to check it's values, it can get the good capacitance, so don't be fooled, the problem is most probably the resistance or the voltage loss. It's clearly different than from a new capacitor.
    (old: 205.5µF, 2.2ohm, Vloss=6.8% | new: 216.5µF, 0.34ohm, Vloss=1.6%)

My controller would connect the USB dongle but then disconnect and reconnect rapidly. I just did this fix using a 220uf 16v capacitor pulled from a old sony battery charger and it worked beautifully! (the capacitor I used is also slightly larger)... These capacitors can be salvaged from old electronics! as long as the "UF" is the same as the original and the "V" is higher then the original It WILL work!! Just Be careful as these capacitors do have a positive and negative side! Stripe being negative and full black being positive!

Just replaced the capacitors on two guitars and now both of them don’t power on at all. Wish I could say this worked for me but must be error on my part. Definitely be careful with the iron touching the board. I saw a few comments with people reporting similar outcomes, any ideas if this can still be revived?

This fix worked as a charm! I found my old GH3 Les Pauls for the kids yesterday after years on top of the shelf, and it worked in a 10 minutes session, but later same night it refused to connect. Changing the capacitor did the trick! And I did use rechargeable batteries the first 10 minutes. It is a bit puzzling how this can break the capacitor though? Also, the single connectivity LED keeps on flashing like the batteries are low on a regular controller, but these are brand new regular batteries. Could that be caused by the other capacitor next to the battery connection being broke as well?

Ok bro I bought two brand new guitars and they both fast blinked....I fixed all three with this fix. 220 microfarad 10v caps fixed em.

I just bought this used. both lights on the receiver and guitar blink rapidly and never sync. the guitar looks brand new and the capacitor has no visual sign of failure. any advice?

Capacitors will not typically show any visible signs of failure, mine certainly looked normal.
