You would only need to sit in front of it for 15 minutes or so at a time to cool down , no use going bush if all you are going to do is sit in front of a fan , could do that at home .
I bought one last year (March) when we travelled up the east coast from Melbourne to Gold Coast, couldnt get one in Melbourne as they were sold out.....bought it in Tweed Heads, NSW......used it heaps then and since.....works a treat.....

Really nice review. I like the scientific approach. One thing that might be helpful in the temperature test is to know what the relative humidity was when you did the test. In really dry climates the evaporative cooling is much more effective than humid climates. Would be good to compare to where the viewer is. Thanks so much for doing this review.
Great point, places where humidity is high this type of cooling will be a lot less effective. The tests were conducted around Melbourne, and while I didn't datalog the humidity, average humidity here is around 50%.
I have had mine for over 12 hours. Mate, it is awesome in summer out the back yard or for a lady with hot flushes when we travel as some hotel room aircons aren’t the best. I would get another one if they bought another one out. I also have a couple of the smaller fans that you can move the head on as well. I had to go to the hospital over night, I took one of the smaller one
I can see why you used so much water, you almost had a jet stream cming out. Adjust the misting nozzels (tighten for a more fine mist). Other tricks, stick ice packs in the water as well (or a bag of ice). If the pump dies, you could use an external pump and go through the hose fitting then (bit more of a setup but works).
We tested as supplied, I didn't realize you could adjust the nozzles. As to the ice, that can actually hamper performance dependant on the temperature and humidity. The cooling effect comes from evaporation, and cooler water evaporates less. Seems counterintuitive I know.

Yeah should have mentioned the cooler water idea is more for direct hit of mist (i.e. being right in front the fan - so you will get pretty soaked). Great video non the less :-)
We stayed in a caravan park in Echuca over Xmas break and the person next to us was using one of those misting fans on his dog (a long haired Labrador). The smell of a wet dog ( unpleasant at best of times) going into a regular shaking routine to shed the droplets of water and loose hair was very unpleasant and pushing the limits of tolerance over the course of several days. Come pack up time dog hair was through everything, stuck all over the forward fold camper trailers canvas, BBQ, Chairs, clothes and towels on clothes line etc etc. 😒
Good video. I'm not convinced though. If I have access to that much water, I reckon I would be better off jumping in it. I also wonder how long that filter would last with 'dirty' water from a stream.

Well I did not know such a battery operated water cooling fan existed. I was just on my way down to buy the Makita 18V battery fan today, which is on special over the weekend. Now I'm having second thoughts. As a Makita guy, and a tradie, I would find it very difficult to buy Ryobi, but the water cooling is attractive when camping. Suddenly my day is in a state of confusion. My plans in ruin. I think I need professional counselling. Time to lay down and tell my life story. Lay down and start from the beginning. That should take about ten minutes or so........... 👍🏼
I'm in the same boat, but I bought one as I have the adaptor for Ryobi tools but the cover doesn't close. Bit concerned about how wet it's going to get. Might be time to actually buy a Ryobi battery....dammit

Obviously the battery cover will no longer work, any issue with corrosion on the terminals like you said? like you im locked into the makita platform. they seriously need to make a new lineup of fans to compete with dewalts new xr and maybe add a misting fan to the catalogue too.
Just like any swamp/evaporative type cooler, they won't be nearly as effective as a refrigerant type air conditioner in high humidity. Though you will get the addtional benifet of the mist droplets evaporating off of the person that land on, assisted by the wind movement generated by the fan in the same way sweating cools you down.
What's your thought on the misting fan? Will you be adding one to your camping gear?

I got one for Christmas. It was 37 degrees Boxing Day and this thing made such a huge difference when sitting outside

I did chuckel! You could always grab a battery converter to run it off of the Makita batteries and paint it red for cred from the plumbers?

No corrosion as yet, I agree, an oscillating Makita misting fan would be great!
