When I was in college, taking the music majors' basic course, for our midterm we had to perform a Bach four-part chorale, playing any three of the parts and singing the fourth, as directed - exactly what you recommend. You do beautiful work.
I don't understand all what you say because i'm french but i hope to progress. One thing is sûre, i understand what you are playing and i can play that on my Steinway piano. It' s the most important. A beautiful tune. " Merci beaucoup ".
G’day Aimee, I love your stuff. However, please try my version of the first bars of „Have You Met Ms. Jones“ | F Bb9 | Am7 D 7/9b | Gm7 ///| C13 ///| Notes in left hand: The F and then just the Bb and 7th ( the melody is the 9th) Then the Am7 (just root and 7th) then the D7 with the finished 9th. I love all the rest of your changes in this and your counter melody.
You explain things so well. Do you know any barry harris theory? 6th diminished scale. You could probably explain it better than he does. The dissonant notes remind me of his sound. Thanks
jerryjoejackaroe I like that scale. I have only discovered his videos and teaching in the past six months tho so I don't feel like I have a handle on it all well enough to teach it yet. He fascinates me tho.
i love 13b9 chords (especially with a #11 too) and minor11 chords btw :) personal fave :) ... LH: Bb+Ab RH: B+D+E+G i think minor7 chord built on the tritone/1+7 to easily find the chord in any key :)
mario urbina .Have to agree with you Doug Mckenzie amazing improvs, Doug is from Geelong Victoria Oz.Do have a listen Aimee, but your teaching style blows me away.
BTW, a very good jazz musician just pointed out to me that the bridge to "Have You Met Miss Jones" is the Coltrane "Giant Steps" progression. Pretty cool, right?
btw you should check out lee evans transcriptions books, and nikki isles season books (jazz in springtime/summer/autumn/winters night). both have great use of harmony. if you check them out try and let me know any other arrangers that are similar. as of yet i havent found any :(
I’m so happy to let you know that now all of the worksheets from my videos are available on my website. You can find the one you need right there. Thanks so much for writing! www.aimeenolte.com/pdfs-worksheets-charts
It's so beautiful!!! I'd love to have the score!! I'll email you and I like it as it is, handwritten, with your personal touch!! You're a great teacher, Aimee!!
Hello Aimee! May I suggest you a great subject for your next video? It would help a lot to many who struggle with the solo Jazz piano. Could you take a standard - say "Here is that rainy day" and show how to build a solo piece from the lead sheet going in steps. That is: first by adding Roots in the LH, then expanding the LH texture by adding more notes, then adding more stuff to the RH. It would be interesting to see exactly the process of eleboration of the basic arrangement and turning it into relatively sophisticated solo piece - well, not necessarily a piece for Maybeck Recital Hall but something that would sound as a real music.
mario urbina lol I'm a good clef writer! I promise! But why.....like....you guys all know what I mean, riiiiiigght? Ok ok I'll try and write them in from now on! Lol thx for the offer tho!
@Jari Satta: The "Sibelius" software is for many years a de facto one of the two programs for pros that are out there. And of course it was named after Jean Sibelius! :)))
Some softwares do everything all you need is the notes, or other software writes what you play on the piano but do not pay attention to me, even looks more profettional
Aimee Nolte well a few. initially i was thinking avalon (the vid is on youtube) but i think that youd prob hate me if i said that one ;) so um ill have a think of something else he does. it might be interesting to show a vid doing something in his style though because its difficult to condense big band to solo piano imo and if you sing it too bonus :) how about come by me with vocals? possibly the solo as well? i think avalon is a bit too much work for anyone
I had a piano teacher but she was not a jazz teacher therefore could not help me, when talking about all the thing you are teaching she was not skillful , asi que by, by
Madam, I m a person that likes attention to detail and sometimes or most of the Time I like things perfect. I was in the military for a long time and learned discipline, do not want to sound like I m command, forgive me please
Your piano teaching videos, like this one, are so clear. Not overly complicated - but get to a great sound. Very nice. Another favorite.
allan henderson oh thank youuuuuuuu

Simple and lovely
I love this lesson :)
Great inner-voice example and quite artistic! Thanks!
I’m so glad I learned four part harmony... I like your chord progressions with the inner moving harmonies... terrific 😄
Aimee why you say you are teaching someone something when you know you are really showing them. Is it an ago thing?
I don't understand all what you say because i'm french but i hope to progress. One thing is sûre, i understand what you are playing and i can play that on my Steinway piano. It' s the most important. A beautiful tune.

Éric Brunessaux I wish I spoke French! Thanks for watching, Eric. I hope you can learn too!
Steinway, huh? :)
Very good
Wonderful ear- and mind-opening discussion! Thank you
katana7xv thanks, Katana!
As always, a great video. The first stave is just off-camera, but once we get beyond that, this is a pleasure to follow.
Mark Semsel just barely on the chord symbol, right? Sorry about that. Thanks for watching

Your videos are causing me to lose sleep because they are Addictive. Ugh 1:12 am
Cool. I'm going to work on transcribing this for guitar.
Scot Gormley rad. Let me know how it lays on the fingerboard!
Scot Gormley oh nice, Mr B. I like that name for it. 🙌🏼

Only bars five thru seven of the bridge resemble Giant Steps

VinniePaah good idea. I have done this for Take The A Train and Miss Jones but a ballad is a wonderful suggestion. Noted! Thx
Great! I'll follow your additions in hope to see such a lesson.
I do not see the clef, I like that in horn section. How about using software for writing music such as Sibelius?
mario urbina yeah I'm old school. And I always leave out clefs and time sigs and key sigs because I'm doing this so often and I like to be quick! :)
Sibelius? Not the composer Sibelius?! My fellow countryman he was. (1865-1957)
mario urbina lol I'm a good clef writer! I promise! But why.....like....you guys all know what I mean, riiiiiigght? Ok ok I'll try and write them in from now on! Lol thx for the offer tho!

Aimee great news, in fact the best news ever west what? I founded the one and only piano teacher in the whole world. You should know the persons name,
Are you familiar with Doug Mckanzie? His music is Exellent I recommend it

Thank you.....
i love the octave right hand and 1-5 left hand to cheat the tength XD
Please, can you upload the sheet?
Petrosmalk write to me: aimeenolte@yahoo.com and I'll get it to you
hey aimee i was wondering if you would transcribe a harry conick junior piece lol
nezkeys79 is Dont knowwwww...what do you have in mind?
Aimee Nolte well a few. initially i was thinking avalon (the vid is on youtube) but i think that youd prob hate me if i said that one ;)

nezkeys79 do you mean one of his compositions or a standard that he has arranged? Avalon is a great tune but it's not Harry's.
Yeas dear Aime if you would have used black pen would have been more readable..than pencil..
+eternal rainbow sorry friend. I learn as I go along
Ok but do not make promises you will not keep ok?
mario urbina I'll try, Mario.
