Everything on this song is perfection. Al singing, David’s sax, Bob ‘s keyboards and Marcus Miller on bass all sublime. The strings put it over the top
Right and this is where I will always close my eyes and listen to Bob James playing at the beginning for the intro part, both David Sanborn (with the sax) and Al Jarreau (singing) go at it till the end.
One of the rare, and most brilliant, pieces i ever heard. And years later it still pulls my heart strings just as strongly. Maddie and David, thank you.
Saddened by the passing of Mr. Sanborn. A very accomplished, soulful jazzy sax player. He said he was quote 'coming out of the blues/R&B side of the spectrum', Whichever it was, he appealed to my ears and sensibilities. Sympathies to his family and fans. One love.
"Made me leave my happy home..." This song is deep...so many great lyrics. Perfect for a rainy day, a good Cabernet Sauvignon, and a reflective mindset. I may not have much of a future...but what a past...ohhh what a past.
'You love me, then you snub me' 'Now I'm black and blue since I fell for you'... Poor David, why Maddie, why couldn't you just stop over thinking things and let things grow naturally?
I first heard this wonderful version by Al Jarreau on an episode of Moonlighting.....searched for and finally got my copy of this cd.....LOVE IT.....REST IN PEACE Mr Al Jarreau, you are the BEST 🎶❤❤❤
The song is so deep, I first came to know this song in my late twenties over thirty years ago and yet today many years later the song still put me in a different mood. Those were the good old days. The instrumentals by both Bob James, David Sanborn, and Marcus Miller blend so well with the vocal maturity of Al Jarreau.
David Sanborn's has a unique way of jazz saxing, so clear and piercing that it brings me to an unexplained height of romanticism. Thanks David for giving us your brand of jazz.
Dear Fans of these great musicians. Do you realize that all of them as well all of Us Fans are “Baby Boomers”! As we sadly pass into eternity there is no new generation of musicians that are so skilled and so passionate for this beautiful blend of jazz music!!!! San Diego was most of these musicians favorite place to play during summer months at “Humphries By the Bay”…. I am 62 and really just sad that this is a passing generation and the music is also passing with them. Embrace the recordings while we can and teach your Grandchildren in hopes that they will find pleasure in this music as we did…… Dear David Sanborn your life was meaningful to many of Us. RIP Friend….
You are so right, I'm in my late 60's and I also feel sad that younger generations do not appreciate this wonderful music...when I listen to what's popular today, it all sounds the same to my ears. I'm very grateful having grown up when I did and I even enjoyed some of my parents music from the 50's...Jazz is especially wonderful, there are so many different kinds of it and the musicians who play it. Thank you for your thoughts on this topic : )@curtiscains8533
Rest in peace David Sanborn thanks for the years great music, there are four great versions of the his song, this being one, Reba Mcintyre and Natalie Cole, Barbara Streisand and Lenny Welch all great in there own way.
Man, I had no idea David passed away! That stinks! I see he was 78...almost 79. In my head, I feel like we're all frozen in time and the same age we were back in the 80s or 90s.
I had the pleasure of virtually being at the feet of Mr Sanborn while he Played the Blue Note about 6 years ago. Of course, he played like his life depended on it, he gave his all. It was Glorious ! He was a bit frail then, but you couldn't tell once he started playing. God rest the soul of the SaxMaster himself... David Sanborn.
Music is an expression of individuality; it's how you see the world. All art is, for that matter. You take how you experience the world, interpret it, and send it out there - express it - whether it's sculpture, dance or singing.... David Sanborn
So Sad to hear that Al Jarreau Passed over a year ago I did not even realise just like Vic Damone who I was a fan of too had to find out via google and now whenever I watch Moonlighting i will remember him , God Rest Al Jarreau
OMG: Our Ancestor, Al Jarreau, none like him, RIP. Blues, jazz and passion. And that scat, the spiritual gift of expressing those things that cannot be understood in words!
Shea, if you're out there somewhere listening to this. I need to thank Al, Bob and Dave For bringing this song into my life. As young kids and it being our first time in a relationship. This was one of the songs I'd play for you in my car. And was believe me, it was all for you. You were sooo fucking beautiful Your neck Sooo fucking beautiful Remember the downtown Hyatt Remember trips to the doctor when you had to get ..nevermind Remember when had to go get your "kidnapped " kid from Mississippi? Remember the night before you left for college? The restaurant which was our weekly date night and we didn't know how to tip properly. Lol To this day. Those were the best days of my life. I still love you Shea. Love, Robert
Well now Al and David are jamming together in heaven.
Thank you Moonlighting for introducing me to the real Al Jarreau.
Came here for David. Such an amazing player, so full of joy and soul. Thank you David. RIP.
I just found out...RIP to an elevating influence. I'm in tears listening to this.

Gob smacked excellence amazing a teacher with God given hats🙏💋♥️
I've listened to this 1,000 times - usually late at night in my empy apartment, or on long drives on winding roads in the rain.
I love it like that too. It takes me somewhere else.
Even though I have performed this song at least 15 times......no matter how hard I try, I still can't match his pain.....or his Eloquence
Me too
Me too.❤️
전주와 마지막 구간에서 몽환적인 느낌이 예술임
그 중간은 al jarreau 목소리가 꽉채움
One of the rare, and most brilliant, pieces i ever heard. And years later it still pulls my heart strings just as strongly. Maddie and David, thank you.

Such memories! What a song!
Had this one for years. One of the very best.

When I hear David Sanborn's riffs, I always think of the Lethal Weapon movies.

What a match. Al's voice riding along that sax as the keys walk us down the road.
I feel so happy that we were blessed with Al Jarreau ❤ wonderful voice and a sweet person.
The best version of this song. Al sings like noone can.
And the best thing also is the sax man known as Mr David Sanborn!
