Actually the manuscript in J S Bach's hand specifies Harpsichord. In the 2nd Movement the Harpsichord solos are derived from the two recorder parts. The concerto showcase J S Bach's genius in arrangement. However, I defy most violinists could play the harpsichord part's solo elaboration. In this format, the F major Concerto joins the 5th Brandenburg Concert, the Concerto in A minor for Harpsichord, Violin, and Flute, and the two concertos for Three Harpsichords for concert works that were Triple Concertos.
un grand seigneur du clavecin
Basically the part for Violin is now played by the keyboard / harpsichord in this case.
