Thanks very much for the in depth video on this server. I've been looking on eBay at getting one as they're going for incredibly great prices and you've just convinced me. You've got yourself a new subscriber!
I bought one of these for my homelab. First time handling with servers stuff, now I have to realise how to install the raid kit (battery, cache memory and cables) by myself since I didnt know it was 100% necessary. Pretty scary when it wasnt detecting any drives and sid module light wasnt working. Always learning the hard way.
I got one of these servers from ebay a week ago, a sweet machine, HPs equivalent to Dells R610. You mentioned an issue with the shroud, would that be it will not go back on? Simply cut the bottom off, level with the Horez angled piece that fits under the chassis. Hard to explain but it's the SAS cable that prevents it from fitting correctly.
I just recently got my very first set of servers, one being the 370 and the second the 360 models like the one in this video it’s missing all of the ram cards and hard drives is there anything I can do to salvage these ?
Depends if you want to use them. If not then scrapt as metal at the local recycling g plant. It will give a few bucks. Me... I would build them and have some fun...
@@QuatschMeister one of my PSUs was running 100% fans for like an hour or 2. that was the "worst" of it. Since then its quiet but clear based on the fans going up and down it needs a cleaning/new thermal paste. Typical for anything this age.
Good afternoon, please tell me how to adjust the fan speed on the HP ProLiant DL360 G7 Server. Worth windows 10 Four disks in the raid and instead of an SSD drive The processors are not loaded at all, but once every half hour they start roaring as if an airplane is taking off.
Hmmm the fan should spin down after it boots up. Unless you have a failed device like a fan or cross bus and so on. You can control the FANs level in the BIOS, but if you are having your fans at full speed all the time then you have a issue on the mainboard. Check your BIOS log files to see if there is an error. You maybe just be running hot but I don't think so...
@@leadiususa7394 Thank you for your reply. No. At startup, the servers are very quiet. A strong noise appears once for 2 minutes and dies down every half hour. You can goes up to the following: Quade core Intel Xeon Processor X5687 and on the six core side you can go to Intel Xeon Processor X5690. I would do the six core. The cost is pretty low. Hey there! Thank you for your informative video! Being a new owner of an old 360 G7*, I am getting to know it abit at a time as I start playing with it. I do have a troubleshooting question as I've just run into my first part needing a replacement and wanted to know what the proper method is. How do I reauthorize cache when the battery dies and I replace it? I have the 410i on my Dl360 G7 and just had the batteries die, with the nodes warped outwards very prominently. I purchased a new battery (460499-001) but have not yet found a good guide on how to reauthorize it so that it will work after plugging it in. Anything you can point me to would be great if you are so inclined. Thanks!
Well use the 800-i and the battery swap should auto refresh after the full recharge process. I think you can force a reset but that could be a issue if there is another issue. Do the swap out and see if the auto refresh takes. If not let me know...I am glad to help you if I can... Oh and by the way you can transition to a new RAID controller if needed and you will not loose any thing RAID wise but if you are doing HBA only mode then that would be a bit of an issue.
@@leadiususa7394 Thank you and I appreciate you getting back to me! I've been playing with it the last 2 days and seem to have a short somewhere with the battery or the array, as I've installed the battery but am getting the 3rd LED indicator as solid amber, which seems to indicate "a short across the battery terminals or within the battery pack". It's not recharged or reinitiated, so I'm guessing I'm probably going to need to purchase a new p410i raid array controller.
@@leadiususa7394 Cool. Thanks for the reply. I live in a small place and the only viable place for my servers is a closet in my bedroom, so noise profile is a massive factor for my stuff. Will keep that in mind.

@@degrinchy No not really, The issue is the motherboard bus can only do 1333 so your higher RAM is placed into a like of compatibility mode to allow it to run slower at slower speed of 1333. Sometimes the later BIOS updates can get a bit more but the hardware is your real limitation. /:>
Well the E5640 and up to 5690 - series are really good for storage processing but do take more power to use. If you go with two L5640 you will run on lower power and still get six core for each CPU. Check this link out if you have more questions. h20195.www2.hpe.com/V2/getpdf.aspx/c04284501.PDF
hi, I just got one of these, the seller setup the raid for me, is there a GUI version of ubuntu that will work without too many headaches? (I'm new to servers) otherwise, can I buy an old version of windows server for this and if so what version? I really just need a GUI OS. Thanks for the great content.
Use the latest Ubuntu download (I think it is 20.4) IT is all GUI based to setup. Real easy to make. If you want to use MS server then get 2019 or 2016. Should work fine... Enjoy and do a little research as you need it...
I appreciate the video, but dude...gotta be real with you and call out the cumbersome verbosity. STACK. Just speak in the same language with which you think lol seems like you laid it on pretty thick there, bud.

Yes it will... Refer to this link from HP-E support site support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c02206768
Still do install xenserver?
Sure, may need a driver or two but it should work. I have not try that release on my chassis yet.. Let me know how it goes...
