  • We are in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia! After a long journey back to Asia after seeing family and dropping off some bags, we are ready to keep exploring. From the diverse food, fantastic weather, and welcoming people to the epic landmarks and sights - our first day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was amazing, we made an embarrassing mistake when it came to the Petronas Towers! Oh, and it was Adriana’s birthday! We squeezed in as many new and exciting things and our first impressions… Well, we were shocked, to say the least! Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring the beautiful country of Malaysia and what it has to offer! We plan on visiting Malacca, Penang, Langkawi and The Perhentian Islands.

wondering, how a T1 is able to go round eating so much diverse stuff? surely at some point, ever increasing insulin injection would cease to be effective.
i myself as a T2 can do about 1/3 cup carbs without exercise or metformin.
1-2 cups carbs with exercise prior to and after meal without metformin.
possibly 2-3 cups with exercise prior to and after meal with metformin.
if the last scenario happens more than 2-3x a day, BG control limits most likely be exceeded. in the below, things turn out a little different.
using sugar as a measurement guide, 76g is considered the limit at which BG outside limits is considered bad.
i can usually stay within limits at 32g without exercise. with exercise prior and after, i can do 80g and at the 2hr mark, i ingest another 80g, 2 hours of further walking exercise later my BG at times can be even lower than at the first 2hr mark.
is this what's happening with you?

Malaysia is a coffee-drinking nation for decade with every state offering its own unique coffee. You can find local coffee in local coffee shops, commonly known as "kopitiam" (that also sell a variety of local food for breakfast and lunch), or local coffee chains or individual cafes. In Kuala Lumpur try visiting Ho Kow Hainam Kopitiam in Chinatown (Petaling Street) for Hainanese coffee, and toasted bread with coconut jam and butter, and half-boiled egg. Be sure to get there early in the morning to avoid a long queue. You can also try local coffee chains like Kluang Station, Hometown Hainan Coffee, and Nam Chau White Coffee, which all have outlets all Klang Valley and beyond.

There are many choices on how you have your coffee whether it is black, white, without sugar, with sugar or condensed milk or evaporated milk etc.
Here are a few examples when ordering kopi in a Malaysian kopitiam:
Kopi = Coffee + Condensed milk
      Kopi-O = (O means black - no added milk/condensed milk) + sugar
Kopi -Cham = coffee, tea + condensed milk

i just came back from a holiday in both Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi (from Australia). Having been to both areas before I had high hopes. KL did not disappoint however Langkawi has definently taken a beating from covid. Most places are still closed, im assuming shut down permanently. It was incredibly underwhelming compared to my previous visits to the island. Be careful with restaurants as food is not that fresh. We were served chicken that was off at an Indian restaurant which was quite the experience. However A MUST is the langkawi Sky Cab onto the Sky Bridge. Views were amazing and you will love it. Also the island is home to SO many monkeys on the side of the road especially in the hills, recommend buying fruit from local vendors and feeding them. a good restaurant on the island is 'Yasmin Syrian Restaurant', tbh we mostly ate at hotels as there was just not enough tourists on the island to be able to maintain fresh food in restaurants.
In KL, Jalan Alor food street is a must. it gets really busy during the night as its a popular spot for locals.

Oh it was a big huge debate back then after post WW2. The colonial powers couldnt decide whether to give it to The Philippines or Indonesia or Malaysia. Somehow Malaysia got to keep it. Borneo has been neglected by the Malaysian government for decades, but recently they have started construction on a big highway project which I am excited and I am sure will bring in a lot of development.

    • @keangwooichoo6138

Originally malaya is just peninsula. But we asked others to join the federation. Singapore pulled out in 1965. Borneo is still around. Before joining, the british setup a commission to study the feedbacks of borneo people. Philippines and indonesia did not like that. Indonesia attacked us using military action. They said we are neo colonialist (proxy to british). There was a brief 'war' called confrontation. But since australia has a pack with USA, attacking them will bring uncle sam into the war. So indonesia stopped their aggression.

I don't think East Malaysia was neglected per se..it was just the question for the nation on which part of it needed to be developed first..East Malaysia = low population, low economic activities, low income per strata, etc..West Malaysia = quite high in population, quite high economic activities, quite high income per strata , etc..so go figure which part is needed to be develop first🤦‍♂️ and only when we got the income from the develop west Malaysia, we can develop the other parts of Malaysia..it's all about prioritisation.

The Cendol Durian (pronounced as Chendol Durian (with the "h" being silent) ... They started off with separate components (Syrup at the bottom, followed by the coconut milk, the green jelly and the durian on top. You really need to stir and evenly mix them up before consuming them. Then they will really become a properly prepared Cendol Durian. Otherwise, it is not a Cendol Durian at all . Coffe is a BIG DEAL HERE! Besides the fancy coffee shops, near your hotel get to Dang Wangi road and look for YUK KEE..It a very old coffee shop run by Hainanese Chinese....Try the local coffee there and their steam bread which comes with butter and Kaya( this is sweetened coconut based jam)...They also do western food like chicken chop or lamb chops etc...Its not q what you would expect. In the Alley behind this restaraunt is a tip selling fried noodles...a Malaysian answer to Pad Thai but with cockles....worth a try and can be spicy.

This used to be the case; that the Singapore to Bangkok train journey was one of the great railway journeys of the world, It used to rival the Orient Express and the Trans Siberian Railway in terms of reputation, albeit a good many years ago (1960s). Maybe worth considering trying part of it, Malacca to Penang?
