Hi Dead Meat. Former Floridian of over 30 years. I just wanted to comment about the concept of hurricane parties. While i agree it's privileged to be financially well off to never worry about damage of hurricanes, it's a mixed bag of reasons as to why you would have a hurricane party. A very common safety measure that you take during hurricane season is Safety in Numbers. Usually in advance, communities, neighbors, friends formulate a plan to meet at one place to ride out the storm. A common strategy is to pool resources such one family brings flashlights and batteries, another brings packs of water, maybe somone brings their generator etc etc. When a hurricane makes landfall, it usually loses a lot of its strength. I was fortunate enough to live in Central Florida most of my life, so by the time the storm hit us it was usually just an extra windy storm with heavy rain. Work is usually cancelled for 1-3 days before and after the storm hits and power companies are usually pretty quick to restore power. A lot of my experience with hurricanes usually boiled down to getting work cancelled, heading to a friend's or family's house after protecting our own home, playing video games and eating snacks until the power goes out, and then returning home after 2-3 days. The movie kind of makes light of what is usually people making the best of a potentially dangerous situation. However, there's definitely a non-zero amount of people who actually make it a PARTY party which is absolutely privileged (and irresponsible).
Thanks to you and all the other comments about how common hurricane parties are - we have never lived in a hurricane area so we were wrong about our assumptions!
23 here, and I feel like the movie was more so critical of privileged rich kids in a Gen Z setting, rather than targeting Gen Z as a whole. Felt similar to how Heathers did that for the 80s or Clueless in the 90s (albeit having much more likable characters)

Absolutely. So many jokes about Gen Z are written by boomers with no actual grasp on how Gen Z realistically act. This felt so much more genuine and accurate
Another great part of Alice's character is her saying multiple times when they find people's bodies is her insistence not to move them, because it's evidence. (Because of COURSE she's into true crime.) As someone into true crime and has also had that reaction baked into my head, it's hilarious to see that part of me in Alice's character, and simultaneously realize how detached that response is in those moments.
I think everyone moved on from this to Barbarian is just kind of due to the fact that we had, what, five or six major horror and thriller releases in less than the span of a month and a half. Great time to be a horror fan!

As a Floridian, “Hurricane Party” has a vastly different connotation depending on who says it. Growing up we used it in more of ironic sense. To me preparing for hurricane parties means boarding up windows, buying water and batteries for when the water and power goes out, and staying with friends or family for safety. I’ve never thought of a hurricane party as a privilege thing until this movie.
i went to a school with incredibly rich gen-z kids and it felt like i was watching the same exact people in this movie which was HELLA surreal to me and my boyfriend when we watched it. i didn’t find it offensive, it felt like a social commentary and it made a lot of sense. i think some of the “gen z” commentary in movies feels out of touch and unrealistic and this one felt authentic, maybe a little exaggerated but in a way that worked really well and kind of encapsulated everything. i have never laughed harder at a horror movie
As younger gen-z horror lover I ADORED this movie. I felt it was such a fun take on the (mostly true) stereotypes pushed onto kids my age. With every character I could just think, “Wow, i know someone exactly like that” or even “That’s so how I would react in this situation”. Amazing movie, definitely see myself coming back to this some time when I’m older and just cracking up.
We were in the audience during opening weekend with a Q&A with the director and cast - apparently there was a scene with Lee Pace and Bee where they really get to know each other and bond over their mutual outsider-ness that was cut. That also makes the racquetball court scene even more sad.

I'm Gen Z myself and I found the generational satire utterly hysterical and spot-on to how some people around my age and a bit younger interact online. The twist had me in stitches; I had several theories by then but none were as funny as the actual reveal.
As a millennial watching this with my gen z cousin, we both cracked up when we heard this on the podcast. Also she said if this movie is not referenced in the future as "capturing gen z'ers" the way Scream "captured the gen x'ers" for the 90's, then there is no justice in the world.
@@loki1456 honestly I would even mind sequels to this movie (maybe an anthology franchise) about gen z shenanigans that may or may not lead to murder (or more of what this movie did) cause I had a blast
One joke in this movie that I feel like nobody has talked about but is so smart and funny is when everyone’s talking about how Emma always cries during bodies bodies bodies and Alice accuses her of something along the lines of “always being the first one to ugly cry”. Later on, when shit gets real, Alice is the first girl to openly ugly cry.
Just popping in with a little info. Hurricane Parties are not a rich people thing. I live in FL and my family is NOT rich. When I was younger, families would have hurricane parties in the most secure house on the block/in the area so all the kids and stuff would be safe together
I remember that day on twitter Chelsea is talking about. That writer was definitely the main character, which is something you usually never want to be.
As a ‘94 millennial that saw Scream in theaters as a two year old, Scream really is so cozy to me. I can totally see this movie being Gen Z’s cozy horror movie like Scream was for us. I loved this movie, just got done watching it and finally came back to listen to your commentary!
This movie was so enjoyable to me. I'm similar age to the girls, and I felt like the writing was self aware in a very funny and specific way- they knew the audience and demographic. In a biting and critical (deserved) way of seeing Gen Z...in a way I hope the upcoming Scream films aren't afraid to do.
The ending is ( for me) what made this movie work. If they didn't land the ending the movie wouldn't be grate. Same with Ready or Not the ending is so much fun. Also Bodies Bodies Bodies is like the episode of Twilight Zone The Monsters Are Do On Manie Street. Everyone is accusing everyone of being the killer. Loved this movie.
Exactly, I don't think I would've loved the movie a lot more than I did if the movie ended with it all being a prank or it was all a bad drug trip or something
As a zoomer, i really love how this film payed attention to our hang ups with communication and our collective narcissistic tendencies. Like, yeah, sometimes we really do be so focused on "the now" that we forget the best thing to do in situations like these is to step back and chill, like Greg!
Bodies is the first movie that I was able to predict the twist!!! Half way through I was like “wait a minute, what if THIS is what happened,” and then it was revealed that it was what happened. I was quite proud of myself.
I am more Greg's age. I have never disliked a group of people so much and thoroughly loved this movie. I work in an industry staffed by the younger generation and I saw many of my coworkers mannerisms portrayed on screen. To me it seemed to capture them perfectly without hating them.
Good point about needing to know it’s comedic in nature! I took my friend to see Scream, and he thought it was supposed to be a played-straight slasher so he didn’t like it as much. He warmed to it after I explained it to him
I’m a U of M student right now (in flint) and I LOVE when you guys tell us who graduated from there. I get so excited like yeah! That’s my school! Go Blue!
Hurricane parties were the norm for me growing up in Louisiana, but our not well off version of it was always the adults buying alcohol in bulk and smoking outside until the rain got too bad then finally coming inside to drink while the kids were eating the leftovers and anything that would melt and watching TV before the power went out.
My friend and I were the only ones in the theatre so we were able to laugh at the climatic argument at full volume. We walked out and said something to the effect of “I have been nearly everyone in that conversation at least once.” So yeah, we thought it captured the zeitgeist pretty well.
One thing I noticed in this movie is all of the wealthy characters have iPhones and Bee has and Android phone. I just loved that little bit since having an iPhone is seen as a symbol of wealth.
As a 25 year old that gets placed in both the millennial or gen z category depending on who you’re asking, I’d say the generational stuff was pretty solid! Over the top a bit at points, but of course it’s going to be exaggerated. I definitely felt like the characters were realistic enough despite that, I absolutely partied with each of these characters at one point or another in college
another comment but as someone who grew up during the really intense 2004/2005 hurricane seasons in florida I love the addition of glow sticks. they were a sort of way for parents to comfort their kids during the storm with the pretty glowsticks and i hold a lot of nostalgia for them.
My friend and I got the whole theatre to ourselves so we got to react as loud as wanted to the movie's laughs and scares, making the experience 100 times better.
This movie is hilarious, but I appreciate that it isn't afraid to do some fucked up stuff. Horror movies are built on fucked up ideas and finding out that they all just killed each other for no reason is such a perfect mix of fucked up and hilarious
My theater was a crowd of just me and one middle aged guy in the front. I can't remember exactly when, but I heard him unrecline his chair, get up and walk out. I think it was during the gun scene. But he never came back and that was the funniest thing to me
While I’m super down for another round of Survivor, I wanted to mention another idea. I believe there is an AI generated website for a Hunger Games style thing where you can add characters in pairs and watch who kills who and who does what, and I firmly believe you two would make it super fun!
Ooh, people bringing their young kids to inappropriate entertainment drives me insane. I work at a haunted house, and you would not believe how many small kids we get. Then their parents flip out when the kids get too scared to continue. Ugh.
I worked in a movie theater from 2006-2010 and you would not believe how many people would come in and bring their young children. Not tweets, but actual children. We had a woman try to bring her four kids to Hostel. The youngest was probably about 2. I watched my coworker go get our manager and watched him try to explain why she couldn't bring them in. She finally said she'd just go to another theater. I honestly hope the other theater refused her too. I remember being so angry. Like how dumb can you be? Are you actually trying to scar your children? Like my mother took me to see Jurassic Park when I was super little and even that messed me up for a few years.
One thing I don't see being brought up in a lot of discussion about this movie is that this is a primarily female cast and by default, the complex relationships of them being female is never really looked at. I think this movie sort of acts as an antithesis to The Descent, which proudly wore the badge of, "this is a movie about female relationships."
Alice really got on my nerves. She is so hypocritical and constantly contradicting herself. Like whenever someone is accused of being the murderer, Alice would immediately agree with the killer and say something like, “That’s true. She has a point”. Like Jesus woman, make up your mind on who’s side you’re on.
I was waiting for Lee Pace to be like Stephen Lang In Don’t Breathe or Dan Stevens in the guest and the reveal that he was just a veterinarian’s assistant who had adequately prepared for a hurricane made me laugh so hard
I'm gen Z, and I was laughing the whole time during this movie. It is definitely accurate to how people my age speak and act, which added to this movie's brilliance. And, I must say, I watch a lot of horror and have gotten good at predicting endings, but this ending was phenomonal. No other ending would have compared, honestly.
Oh I loved this movie as part of Gen Z it’s awesome, the depiction is on point by the way people talk, act, and essentially put on a show. It took the best and funny parts plus horror into a movie and it’s perfect. Also love you guys so much
as a writer, the best advice i've gotten about the "write what you know" thing is, if you're going to include specific details about your personal life, always make sure you're the only one taking the L. if you're relaying a story about how you shat your pants on a bus in the middle of milwaukee that's one thing, but if you were sitting next to that person, maybe have it be that someone threw up on a ferry ride on their way to long island. what matters is the emotional impact of the event and what you as a writer can uniquely say about it, not the embarrassment of some poor person whose permission you didn't ask for, and whose story it isn't yours to tell.
Damn I’m so lucky I’m missing work rn and am able to watch this from a hospital bed 😭 (I swear that isn’t entirely sarcastic, and I’m okay I promise) ily guys! Been a dead meat fan since 2018 and been a horror fan since I was around 6 yrs old (I’m 22 now) 💕😭
As a gen z, I really loved Bodies Bodies Bodies and viewed it as a good spirited critique on terminally online young people and the vapidness of influencer culture and nepo babies. Also as someone who sometimes gets a little too engrossed in my phone and what’s happening online, I could definitely pick out bits that applied to me and laugh at myself. As I said, the movie feels good spirited and not like some boomer shaking their cane at the neighborhood kids, which makes the criticism go down easier.
I hate starting a podcast and see how much you guys liked the movie your reviewing cuz now im only 2 minutes in and can’t finish until I watch this movie 😂
I played this exact game a lot growing up, except everyone I know calls it murder in the dark, I played it a lot at church overnight lock-ins. This movie does a really good job making me feel the same way I felt playing this game, just wondering the hallways in the dark never knowing if/when you're safe. And the arguments they have about who the killer are are really spot on.
I loved this movie when I saw it in the theater! We were the only ones laughing in the theater too! Once the movie ended we left and i realized it was just another older couple in the theaters with us. I heard one of them say to the other that it wasn't not the film they expected haha
Saw this in the poll and was very excited, and I havent even seen the movie. Started to watch it but couldn’t find it in high quality. So ultimately stopped, im excited to hear about all of it.
I just watched Bodies last night! So glad to see Dead Meat loves this movie as much as I did! It’s incredibly dumb, but that’s some of the brilliance of it! I love the twist at the end, and I was laughing so hard when I started thinking about everything that happened because of that twist.
I will say in regards to a “hurricane party”; it’s not about wealth or privilege. Most times when there is a hurricane party it’s because a hurricane is set to hit but is low grade enough to have businesses close but not dangerous enough that you need to evacuate. A CAT 2 hurricane isn’t going to level a town but it’s not safe to be driving around. Therefore, you’re guaranteed a day off of work and responsibilities and you go over to that persons house a few hours before the storm and enjoy the day. Lived in Florida for 12 years and it’s a common occurrence for every walk of life
The ability to say that it's not about privilege is, gasp, a privilege. People that live in low income housing will likely still experience water damage and power outages. Homeless people will still be at risk of dying and/or being displaced and losing their things. I live in gulf coast Texas so I understand what you're talking about, but "hurricane parties" are definitely a privilege.
i don't know, I'd say even bad thunderstorms are a problem for poor people and definitely not a time to party. I mean you're dealing with leaking roofs, trees falling over, flooding....it reminds me of the scene in Parasite where the rich family is ready to throw a party the morning after a storm while the poor family are sleeping in a shelter.
I was in a production of The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe, and there's definitely some overlap between depictions of young people and how they interact and speak. I can see how she wrote both, she's got a good grasp of how young people talk
As a theatre person, my interests are finally coinciding!! You mentioned Sarah DeLappe and my ears perked up, she was a Pulitzer finalist for her play The Wolves. It's about a girls indoor soccer team as they navigate the weird line of seeming/feeling mature with the harsh realities of adulthood. Basically every theater department in the last 5 years with too many actresses has done it, and the dialogue is very similar - very realistic and funny with how confidently wrong these young women are. I played #8!
From TV tropes: When asked to explain the meaning of "the best defense is a good offense", instead just repeating the phrase and leaving before providing any example. His lack of understanding of the saying ends up being his downfall, as once he realizes he is a suspect he priorities offense, grabbing a knife, to de-escalating the situation, which only makes them more hostile toward him and ultimately causes Bee to kill him out of fear.

I found this film to be super fascinating, I saw it as a commentary on the reliance of technology and social media. Which explains why the characters struggle to communicate with each other in person and rely on a group text. It's a very fascinating film to dissect.

i saw a few people talking about the 46:60 go bag! but i am glad you addressed not only how perfectly beautiful Lee Pace is, but also how a go bag would be what an well meaning adult does when asked to go to a new place during a hurricane. 17:20 was me at twitter after watching Bodies^3; this was exactly what i felt the movie satirizing. I was oddly the only person laughing with this movie in my showing but i loved it; all these characters are too real. 33:32 nailed this. love the description!
when i watch television shows or even the movies that james and chelsea are talking about, i need to be on my phone or doing something else or i can't focus on the movie. But when I watch this, which is just a conversation between two people, I am completely enraptured. I forget what time it is when I watch them talk. They are the perfect people for this, both very pleasant to look at, they have amazing chemistry and you can tell they love each other even when they talk about horror, and they have soothing voices. Not to even mention the amazing set I could look at all day. Just. A massive thanks to you both for killing my ADHD every time you post.
I honestly blame so much of Greg’s death on Jordan. He successfully de-escalated the situation, getting everyone to put their weapons down, and from there, it would have been fine, they would have been able to talk it out. But she decided to JUMP ON THIS GUYS BACK as if that would even do anything?? And then immediately after getting her off and checking if she’s okay, to make things worse, Emma decides to put him in a chokehold. That one makes a little more sense because I could see how she could view Greg getting her off of him as “attacking” her, but still, SHE ATTACKED HIM, and he ASKED IF SHE WAS OKAY. One of the more infuriating parts of the movie for me, especially because I liked Greg so much, but this movie is amazing
Im a gen z viewer and this is one of my favorite horror comedies! This was so hilarious i busted out laughing in the theater and i felt it was spot on accurate!
Suggestion: for the movie reviews like this one that you can’t show clips because they’re still in theaters or streaming, could you include movie stills? It would help me imagine the movie if I haven’t seen it. Thanks for all your work!
So James I see your critique about why Bee killed Lee Pace’s character (and to another extent Jordan). Well how I see it is that she’s so loyal to Sophie, that whenever Sophie is in danger, she protects her and kills the people that were about to attack her. Going to show how loyal Bee is as a person. That’s how I interpreted it
Lmao loved when Alice was calling for Greg and they tried to cover her mouth and she was like “you’re silencing me!”🤣

The ending in a theater cemented this movie as an all-timer. Nobody saw it coming and it was awesome.
Wasn't there also actual aliens in that episode?
@tjinman7037 Yes, but I was talking about the accusing of the episode, not the aliens
This was the first piece of media that I've seen actually satirize Gen Z in a way that actually understands the actual problems among the youth.
Best feeling!!
I was expecting for Jordan to like randomly pull out the gun and shoot and kill one of them after she was revealed to be the killer in the game🤣
@@viwoski7454 Seriously, she was so suspicious the ENTIRE time.
@@viwoski7454 i was so sure that it was her the whole time PFFT
Props I can usually always guess the twist but this one caught me completely by surprise
Bodies bodies bodies is pretty much the only movie I’ve ever seen depict gen z effectively
A24 is knocking it out of the park this year!
And Pearl is coming out this weekend too.
Can't wait!😃
17:20 i’m actually laughing so loud at james’ reaction 💀💀
That should become the Dead Meat version of that white guy blinking gif. It was incredible.
I am more Greg's age. I have never disliked a group of people so much and thoroughly loved this movie. I work in an industry staffed by the younger generation and I saw many of my coworkers mannerisms portrayed on screen. To me it seemed to capture them perfectly without hating them.
Great catch with the “draw the X”. It wouldn’t even have occurred to me that it could have been misinterpreted!
Good point about needing to know it’s comedic in nature! I took my friend to see Scream, and he thought it was supposed to be a played-straight slasher so he didn’t like it as much. He warmed to it after I explained it to him
Just like Skeet Ulrich!
I’m a U of M student right now (in flint) and I LOVE when you guys tell us who graduated from there. I get so excited like yeah! That’s my school! Go Blue!
A drinking game where you take a drink every time Chelsea and James say Lee Pace 😂
I have a feeling that Chelsea is here for all the mess and I love it 😩😅
I'm glad you brought up Lena Wilson, lmao, she got tore UP on TikTok for that bull crap! 😂
I loved how the movies twist was that Keith David was a ghost all along!!
Love y’all and your podcast!
is this about the movie or a sixth sense reference?
It's always Keith David 😂😂
@@gabrielesimone1372 it’s an insane joke from the depths of my insane brain
Its actually a sequel to nope carrying on from Keith David's death in that movie.
@@venomase5572 that would be cool
another comment but as someone who grew up during the really intense 2004/2005 hurricane seasons in florida I love the addition of glow sticks. they were a sort of way for parents to comfort their kids during the storm with the pretty glowsticks and i hold a lot of nostalgia for them.
So happy this came out during my 1 hour of screen time that my wife's boyfriend gives me! We love you James & Chelsea!
😂😂😂
Lucky, my wife's boyfried only gives me thirty minutes. I'll have to finish the rest tomorrow.
@@jakeburnette9943 its a podcast, listen on spotify
My friend and I got the whole theatre to ourselves so we got to react as loud as wanted to the movie's laughs and scares, making the experience 100 times better.
This movie is hilarious, but I appreciate that it isn't afraid to do some fucked up stuff. Horror movies are built on fucked up ideas and finding out that they all just killed each other for no reason is such a perfect mix of fucked up and hilarious
Thank you for teaching me my new favorite word - Pugnacious lol adding it to my vocabulary
the look James gives to the camera about 17 minutes in is gold 🤣
17:48
My theater was a crowd of just me and one middle aged guy in the front. I can't remember exactly when, but I heard him unrecline his chair, get up and walk out. I think it was during the gun scene. But he never came back and that was the funniest thing to me
While I’m super down for another round of Survivor, I wanted to mention another idea. I believe there is an AI generated website for a Hunger Games style thing where you can add characters in pairs and watch who kills who and who does what, and I firmly believe you two would make it super fun!
There's also an updated version that takes a bit more effort to set up, but has a lot of cool changes
@@naplockblubba5369 what's it called?
@@M50A1 Just "Hunger Games Simulator: Updated" I think. It's on the same site, but I'm not entirely sure if it's on the homepage yet
Omg I’ve actually done that exact thing before! With the horror characters and everything! It’s great!
That would be awesome
But it commentates on fake friendships.🤷♂️
ABSOLUTELY THIS I was having some serious flashbacks to middle- and high-school friend fights during this movie
The Descent was such a wild ride!
This movie exceeded my expctations, like you said the dialogue is hilarious and the characters are so fun, especially Alice!
Been a dead meat fan since 2018 and been a horror fan since I was around 6 yrs old (I’m 22 now) 💕😭
Still, feel better bro!
you guys are the only podcast i listen to
As a gen z, I really loved Bodies Bodies Bodies and viewed it as a good spirited critique on terminally online young people and the vapidness of influencer culture and nepo babies.
Man I wish the film would’ve used the Drowning Pool song 😔
Oh man, I just pictured that being used for the trailer. That could have been to cool!
scream, cabin in the woods and bodies bodies bodies, ready or not fit in a genre i love
Disasterpiece did the score as well!! He’s the one who did the score for ‘It Follows’!
James mentions this at 12:08
I hate starting a podcast and see how much you guys liked the movie your reviewing cuz now im only 2 minutes in and can’t finish until I watch this movie 😂
Worth it!
I heard one of them say to the other that it wasn't not the film they expected haha
as someone in gen z I really enjoyed this movie it captured this generation perfectly its gonna be so fun to look back on in 10+ years
As someone who is part of Late Millennial/Gen Z generation it was a pretty accurate satire of how arguments are drummed up online on a regular basis.
Gen Z here and its soooo funny. Identified a lot with them especially Alice and Jordan.
AMOGUS the movie
That’s what I thought too! Also love your channel!

Nah 💀
My friends and I (in college) watched this and found it hysterical and authentic
Im so psyched that James and Chelsea liked this movie because it is currently my favorite thing ever and tbh I thought they wouldnt like it.
From TV tropes:
When asked to explain the meaning of "the best defense is a good offense", instead just repeating the phrase and leaving before providing any example. His lack of understanding of the saying ends up being his downfall, as once he realizes he is a suspect he priorities offense, grabbing a knife, to de-escalating the situation, which only makes them more hostile toward him and ultimately causes Bee to kill him out of fear.
Been waiting on this one! Best way to start my morning 🙌
Great podcast episode🫰 TY FOR ALL YOUR HARDWORK CHELSEA and you guys mentioned this in a previous episode but just so you know I love the movie reviews!! I love the games and cool research episodes but just so you both know I don’t think I could ever get tired of watching you guys review movies and I’m always eager to hear the different viewpoints you guys contribute to horror movie discussions
I found this film to be super fascinating, I saw it as a commentary on the reliance of technology and social media. Which explains why the characters struggle to communicate with each other in person and rely on a group text. It's a very fascinating film to dissect.
bodies bodies bodies is just a longer name for among us
Man I’m never this early. These podcast make my overnights shift soooo much better!
Listen I’ve been waiting for y’all to review Bodies Bodies Bodies!! Barbarian can wait!! 😂 I literally said “Yay” out loud when this video popped up on my feed lol thanks for all the hard work you all do! ♥️
i saw a few people talking about the 46:60 go bag! but i am glad you addressed not only how perfectly beautiful Lee Pace is, but also how a go bag would be what an well meaning adult does when asked to go to a new place during a hurricane.
I really love it that Amandla Stenberg is genuine queer woman playing gay character
my friends and I went in thinking it was a straight up horror and so we left feeling very off but as i look back on it i like it a lot
I wasn’t expecting all the making out and it made me laugh! THE FACT PEOPLE BROUGHT THEIR KIDS TO IT omfg like literally why 😂😂😂
That’s how I interpreted it
The Chelsea/Alice podcast solidarity is sending me. I love you guys!
Just wanted to say that the alumni presentation zoom was really great and informative
