David Tennant and Michelle Gomez lead an all-star cast in the latest episode of Big Finish Productions’ celebratory Doctor Who anniversary series, Once and Future, released today.
The Martian Invasion of Planetoid 50, written by Jonathan Barnes, brings together some of the characters from the eras of the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, as the Tenth Doctor encounters Missy and the Paternoster Gang where Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart) and Strax (Dan Starkey) unite once more.

The First Doctor arrives in Victorian London amid a Martian invasion. But he discovers all is not what it seems when Missy appears…
Soon, the Doctor is propelled into a future incarnation - the Tenth - but he is not alone in battling Missy and her Martian invaders. The Paternoster Gang - Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint and Strax - are also here to assist. But can they offer the Doctor any help in solving his own degeneration mystery?
Writer Jonathan Barnes said: “I always try to include a personal element in my stories so I was pleased to be able to write a sort of love letter to the work of HG Wells as well as the required ingredients.
“It’s a commentary on fandom too in some ways. The Doctor lands on a planet which seems to have been remodelled as an exact replica of the fictional London in Wells’s War of the Worlds... but who could be responsible for such devilry? Well, check out the front cover!

It’s kinda weird to think that although he’s being played by David Tennant, the Doctor in this audio is actually a much younger version from the Time war
Which makes me think if Tennant will play it differently or not.

@@chriszone50 as he should, since the only reason why 10 and 11 are so childish and laid back is bc of the guilt they have for supposedly destroying gallifrey
@@chriszone50 the posh part is weird tho, i´m not a native english speaker, but even i could notice that the new doctors use much more slang than the older ones, i wonder if there´s an in-universe explanation for that, or if it´s just the writers making the character more modern

Urgh, this one was soooo good! Missy and Paternoster Gang is a painful (BEAUTIFUL!) combination. I vote that everyone gets some measure of therapy tho. Can't wait for the Paternoster Audios in October 😍

Listened today. An absolute delight!
I find it awkward knowing the cover uses a photo of David Tennant's Series 3 head, which you csn recognise from the way his hair is gelled, on a photo of his body from the Specials, judging by the perfection of the brown suit with the trench coat.
I love everything Big Finish and they genuinely never fail to amaze, astound and impress me. So glad to be a loyal listener, customer and collector. And as a person who grew up with David as my doctor long may he make these audios as the doctor. Never get tired of the magical stories Big Finish bring us with all the living doctors long after their tv eras have ended. Long live Big Finish and long live Doctor Who

This doctor-master combo is... Still both Scottish. Oh.
So, In this story of "Once & Future", the Doctor is becoming the yet to happen FUTURE 10th Doctor.
So, now Tennant has been the Doctor BEFORE, WHEN and AFTER he WAS the 10th Doctor! (that made my head hurt).
PREDICTION At some point the this series the Doctor will become Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor as a cameo or maybe.... a full story?
PLUS, "Once & Future" is technically a companion series to the 60th specials. They do seem to be connected, become the same situation is happening: the Doctor is regenerating into past selves (but it depends on their perspective in the Doctor's personal timeline)?

I don't think Big Finish is allowed to touch current stuff and not the soon to come stuff either.
Also, I don't think it's connected (beyond concept). The manner in which the plot gets started is different.
Yes, the plots are different but they both have the Doctor de regenerating@@MrsMoores? And what a better anniversary story than one which flows through his entire timeline and connects both the TV and audio universe?
Plus, the story is an adaption of a DWM comic meaning we now have both audio and comic characters made canon.
Some that every one can enjoy?

@@MrsMoores Ordinarily yes, although we already have The Fugitive Doctor and Sacha Dawan’s Master as part of the Big Finish roster.
Potentially (very unlikely but not impossible) for the 60th the BBC may have come to some legal agreement for a direct crossover.

So is this 8th deregenerated into 10th during the time war or is this 10th during the time war? If I get all the releases including I think the two upcoming ones will it make sense because I'm confused but thank you for y'all work dark eyes was great
8th deregenerated into 10th after becoming the 1st. Degeneration is sounding more like a randomizer then anything.
The BBC Trailers got me more hyped for this than BBC did for the 60th

Does this whole once and future thing make actual sense within the continuity? Or is it just more big finish action figure adventures with people who never met that doesn’t make any sort of sense? Like when they were pretending Jackie Tyler had all of these adventures that she just didn’t ever mention to the doctor and rose for some reason

It's impossible for Doctor Who to show every single adventure to go on. Especially if they don't include the Doctor.
About Jackie Ryler, in the most recent story with River Song, the plot is partially about her worrying about Rose. So I'm not entirely sure where you're coming from here.
Also, continuity, especially for a show this long, is impossible to get straight. The lore keeps overwriting itself (even if you just focus on the TV stories).
